I’m about to have a baby boy (first child!) and everybody keeps asking what the nursery’s theme is going to be. Truth be told, I don’t want a themed nursery. Yes, I want a variety of things there: Cars, animals, balloons, stars, and lots of colors. I want it to be replete with with all things he will find in the world. But most importantly, I want it to be an stimulating environment so my baby will be able to grow and choose for himself what the theme is going to be. I love how creative kids are and how they can find their own interests and hobbies. Why not leave the canvas blank so he can pick the theme for himself one day, right?
I’m a sucker for a good kids print. That traffic jam print is amazing – nice old world charm – good to see stuff from independent sellers too.
Totally adorable! Love the balloon lamp especially. My daughter picked out ice cream sheets for her bed and those are definitely “jolly”!
I LOVE this post and comments with all the links!!! I’m totally gonna get lost in this wonderful internet rabbit hole today, lol. Hubby and I have discussed before our dreams if we ever won the lottory. I’m not so hot on the big mansion idea but I did confess that if we ever had one I’d have a room dedicated to vintage toys. We finally bought our first home last year and I’ve been strugglling to decorate it to my liking but recently remember that lottery conversation and thought “why wait?” So I’ve begun pulling out the few treasured toys we have to display and just bought a vintage set of Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Sweet Pea handmade felt dolls to display on our mantel. I’m absolutely loving it and our house is finally feeling more like our home. So if anyone does like these fun decor elements, whether you have kids or not, I say go for it as it’s totally worth the smile it’ll bring to your face.
I LOL-ed by myself in my apartment when I saw this post, because I totally bought myself that dinosaur lamp a few months ago at Target. I have no children and am 30 and single, and the lamp is one of my bedside lamps now. It gives off really good light, AND makes me laugh out loud when I glance over and see the T-Rex.
I love me some laugh out loud kid decor for grownups. In college, I got a lion bathmat from the Target kid’s section that made a drab dorm bathroom a lot more fun.
I wanted to know where that green dinosaur lamp came from? Target?
This is all so cute. We’re currently decorating a room for our second in a space theme. If anyone knows of any cute space-themed things, especially mobiles or things with female space-goers (it’s a girl’s room), I’m all ears!
Also, as a Chicagoan I’d be remiss if I didn’t warn you that the map of Chicago, while cute, is not at all accurate! Do not go seeking Wrigley Field at the end of the Magnificent Mile, which picks up just at the river’s bank. And maybe don’t buy it for the kind of fact-noticing kid who would pick up on that stuff. ;)
What about displaying the women of NASA lego set (out of reach, if it’s for a kid under 3).

As a native Chicagoan, I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that that the Magnificent Mile is in the wrong place on the Chicago map! I know the map is intended for children, but the placement of Michigan Avenue isn’t even remotely correct. It’s a North-South street that should run the length of the entire map. The Bean, which is depicted on the map, can be accessed from Michigan Ave. Everything else is approximately geographically correct, so I’m not sure why the illustrator decided to do this.
This nesting rainbow is a great toy for toddlers and preschoolers, and it looks so happy on our white bookshelf, that we’ll keep it forever. (And we’ll take it down for every little person that comes to visit!) It’s expensive, but great quality, and was played with in so many creative ways. http://bit.ly/2GvzIQz

This is silly but the dino lamp, and how many people love it, reminded me. Our family has a little pop up camper, and one time we went camping, and somehow, it’s a mystery, a really silly/scary toy plastic t Rex (with the absurd tiny arms) ended up in the camper. One of my pre teen girls was having a moment and I awarded her the T rex, it was just a silly moment acknowledging how ridiculous and pathetic each of us can be, especially while camping in a tiny space (with three dogs too, yes, we are actually insane). Henceforth, whoever was being the most grouchy, difficult or whiny would get silently passed the T rex, with a smile and a wink. And yes, it was me a lot. It became a game for the t rex holder to catch someone else being worse, so they could pass it along. Even though it’s just my husband and I camping now, t rex still comes, and still gets silently passed over.
I love this story! The funny things that become part of the family history, eh?

I make little felt toys, and my favorites are rainbow colored hearts, on a string, hung on a door or wall. And little hand sized hearts, filled with rice and lavender petals, that kids can hold and smell.
I have a basket of little felt critters for small ones, owls, sloths, kitties, polar bear, foxes. They are super easy and fun and fill my need to be a tiny bit creative.
A couple hand made Waldorf dolls also bring me a ridiculous amount of joy. Just dolls, right? But something about little hands hugging them close and giving loves, it’s why I care for other people’s children, in a nutshell. All things wonderful in the world in tiny hands.
It’s funny that these are specifically “kids” things because I could and would incorporate a lot of these items into my own adult home.
Such cute happy stuff. I thought the red balloon lamp was such a cute idea. I showed my daughter and she was like that looks like that scary balloon from IT. I guess red balloons are ruined forever now. ha!

I’m 30 and don’t have kids and I already have that exact dinosaur lamp on my bedside table! It makes me smile everyday. I’ve had people laugh and shake their heads like, “Aren’t you a grown adult? Shouldn’t your lamp be from Pottery Barn?” But the way I see it, I AM a grown adult. If something little and silly like a dinosaur lamp can bring me joy and it’s within my budget, it would be irresponsible not to have it. And I love the way that attitude seems to have helped some of my friends feel free to find their little nonsense happy things – I get the best photos of silly mugs and posters and pillows with captions like, “I know you’ll appreciate this!”
I have stegosaurus sheets on my bed. The kids don’t like dinosaurs and they have sensible sheets. Gotta keep yourself happy!

A friend of ours gave us this San Francisco ABCs poster. The H is a hippo in a hippie van in Haight Ashbury… a jaguar is sipping tea (presumably jasmine) in the Japanese Tea Garden…. each letter has multiple connections. It is so cleverly and beautifully done. Not sure where it can be bought online but it’s available in a couple shops in the city.

My boyfriend’s brother is expecting his first child, and we got them a beautiful Llama Family from the Imani Collective for the nursery.
