We Love Madewell (Plus, an Exclusive Sale)

(Sponsored) For years, we’ve turned to Madewell for all our everyday essentials. From dresses and jumpsuits, to jackets and tops, to everything denim, their collections are always full of looks we love. So, today, the Cup of Jo team talks about some of their favorite pieces…

“It’s very possible that nothing in my closet gets more play than a classic jean jacket,” says Caroline. This oversized version is like something you stole from a brother or an ex-boyfriend (without the bad vibes). “It looks good with pretty much anything, but my favorite way to style it is with more denim — I can never have enough — or a floral dress, for an updated take on a ’90s grunge look.”

“For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved accessories for two reasons: they add personality to any outfit, and they always fit!” This snake-embossed leather camera bag is the perfect size for everyday wear. It easily fits your keys, phone, wallet, lip balm and any other essentials, without weighing you down.

Whatever the season, dresses are the best. They’re instant outfits; just throw them on, and your whole look is done. “Black is a favorite summer color for me — it feels chic and easy paired comfy sandals,” says Joanna. “This dress has such a simple, effortless shape.”

Madewell’s dress selection is always amazing, including stripes, plaid and denim.

“I’ve been excitedly watching trends the last few months as the rugby stripe returns,” says Kim. “I’m always happy in stripes, and if it’s in a bright color, that’s even better.” This tee is super soft from the very first wear, and you can never go wrong with jeans and classic canvas sneakers.

Here are some other picks (currently on sale):

So many lovely pieces — what would you choose? (Caroline has her eye on this.)

Agh! I had an issue accessing the link and I think I lost out on this opportunity. Next time :)

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      i’m so sorry tamara!

  3. Katie says...

Saw the sale first on the Madewell site. This seems like a Big Deal in the world of sponsored content. Congrats Jo and team for all your hard work!

I have that denim jacket . . . it’s my “piece.” I wear it all the time!

  5. Nina says...

    Kim, I love your hair!

  6. Leena Kiber says...

Just a heads up for anyone ordering the Stovepipe jeans – size down! One size or maybe even two. They run large in the waist.

  7. Kristina says...

I love Madewell! I ordered the stovepipe jeans and Kim’s sneakers–excited for a little wardrobe refresh! And also, like others, so happy to support this wonderful community : )

  8. L says...

Is anyone else having problems with the sale link? It won’t load for me. :-(

    • Joanna Goddard says...

We’ve figured out that if people have ad blockers on, sponsored posts may not show up. I’m so sorry! Trying to figure out a work around. Xo

  9. Amy says...

Love the selections and the thought process and the pics – and I even have a couple of Madewell bags (including my everyday work bag) – but it is such a bummer that the sale prices are taken away when you tell them you’re in Australia. (Cardigan I’m looking at you). Why oh why?

  10. Sally says...

Would you ever look to do partnerships with companies that are more worldwide?
I mean, I get that you are based in the US and it’s easier for you guys to get US-based partnerships… But it seems like your partnerships are ALWAYS either US-only, or prohibitively expensive for non-US readers.

Just out of interest, I took a look at this company (who do ship to the UK where I am)… I picked a very average looking pair of khaki pants… And with the exchange rate, and postage… $146! That would be a hard no.

    • linda says...

Yes, please! Fellow reader in Greece x

    • Just a tip, check out Zalando! It’s a european online shop with free shipping and returns to the UK and other european countries. They carry some Madewell there. They won’t have the same deals of course, but if you fall for something seen there they may have it.

    • Lydia says...

I think you can also get Madewell at John Lewis in the UK, as with Zalando, probably not the whole range, but I’ve got my fingers crossed for you on the khaki pants!

  11. Laura says...

I’ve always been a fan of Madewell’s bags, but since I discovered that they carry plus sizes I’ve been obsessed with their clothes too. I just bought the paper bag pants and am so excited! I love their huston pull on pants and their tank tops are so cut so flattering! Really into this collab and sale

  12. CS says...

I think this post has made me want to find the perfect denim jacket. It’s been at the back of my mind for a long time, but now I know I need to do it! Thanks for the inspiration. Also, all of you ladies look absolutely lovely.

  13. Alba says...

I didn’t need another pair of pants but bought them to support CoJ (or so I tell myself :) ), but really want to give back for all the good content that is supporting my mental health these days. Love you, CoJ

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      Love you, Alba. Xoxo

  14. marcella says...

kim, your picture is also on the madewell website when i clicked sale!! i’m sure you already knew this.. lol but i thought it was cool :)

  15. chelsea says...

    yes!

  16. Hanna says...

Just want to say that you all look so beautiful!

    • Jenny says...

You are all so beautiful! You look so fresh and lovely! Kim, those colors are a dream on you! I used to really rely on Madewell as my go-to store for chic silhouettes with a tomboy flair but I’m very disappointed in the quality of a lot of their fabrics over the last 2-ish years. There has been way too much ruffle/bow/flounce lately. If the marketing gods are listening, less shiny fabrics that dry poorly!

  17. Paige says...

Joanna, haven’t seen a photo of you on the blog in a long time and it was so nice to see you again! Is it weird it felt like seeing an old friend? Haha (I’ve been following you since you wrote for Glamour and then followed you here!).

    • Claire says...

I used to read Smitten, too! I miss seeing you on the blog, too, Joanna — your personal posts are always my favorite because you feel like a big sister. :)

  18. Coco says...

Caroline – love your jewelry in this post!!! They add so much to your outfit. Please, please do a post about your everyday jewelry collection. :)

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

Thank you!! Jewelry is my favorite thing. :) Love that suggestion!

    • anna says...

oh i love that idea! hearing about the pieces others wear and feel naked without is so fun. could even feature reader pieces (this is me volunteering as tribute ;) )

    • Claire says...

good idea- I love jewelry too, and especially love to see antique or heirloom pieces (fascinated by anything that has a history or story behind it!), and creative pieces like Caroline’s ring.

  19. Michaela says...

This is such an exciting mash up! I have been waiting to get stovepipe jeans and the color I wanted has been sold out in tall. Ordering now and love that I’m supporting this wonderful corner of the internet as well. Thanks for doing such amazing partnerships/sponsored content!

  20. becky says...

Ladies you all look awesome! Kim, I love that combo and if I didn’t already put a madewell order in this week I would have bought that same exact look. You are rockin’ it!
I have learned that it pays to buy better jeans. I have bought so many cheap pairs over the years. None of them last a year. I have two pairs of madewell jeans coming this week and I am so excited. Love a pair with my allbirds💖

  21. Michaela says...

I have those paper bag pants, and I highly recommend! They’re so flattering, comfy, and they give me a total confidence boost. They’re the perfect level of dressy for my very casual office, I like to wear them when I have to give a presentation (well, I did back when we weren’t just WFH full time.)

Also really like the stovepipe jeans I have from Madewell. They’re like a sexier mom jean, sort of? Like a combo between a mom jean and a skinny.

  22. Kay Lynn says...

Hi! I went right over to the sale, but it looks like it’s “up to” 40 percent off, on some
Items, for everyone. I thought it was literally 40 percent off….or maybe there’s a code for that??

    • Maureen says...

Hi Kay, you’re right the items are up to 40% off with prices as marked. Thank you for that clarification!

  23. L N says...

Love seeing y’all on the Madewell website! :) So fun!

  24. Amanda says...

I love their jeans – wish you had the maternity jeans in your sale!

  25. Jessica says...

Wishing Kim’s photo *was* selected to be featured on the Madewell landing page. Her outfit is my favorite!

    • Rae says...

Same! Such a great look and the color of Kim’s hair, her glasses, her smile with the t-shirt stripes is A+

    • Ingrid says...

      I agree!

    • Brittany says...

      Agreed!

    • nadine says...

Agreed! Love the new hair color Kim!

  26. Sadie says...

    Ya’ll look great <3

  27. Jackie says...

Kim, you look so good in that shirt. Love it.

  28. Krista says...

And could we get more info about that awesome ring on Caroline’s fourth finger? (The black one.)

    • Claire says...

      YEP!

    • Laura says...

Yes, I was going to ask this too!!

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

Thank you! It’s an antique (actually an old stick pin that was converted into a ring) and was a gift from my boyfriend for my last birthday.

  29. Anna says...

Amazing timing! Had created a cart a couple weeks ago with Madewell jeans and was sitting on it. Love the Stovepipe Jeans even more than the ones I originally found, and they’re cheaper with your discount. Thank you!

  30. elinor says...

Kim, I love your glasses! Where are they from?

    • Kim Rhodes says...

Thanks! They’re from Eye Buy Direct. The frame name is Prism. xoxo

  31. EM says...

What a cool collaboration! Good for y’all! :) Just bought some new Madewell jeans last week – love those Roadtrippers!!

  32. Laura says...

What size jacket does Caroline have? Thinking if ordering it.

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

I have an XS. It runs pretty long on me, but I like it that way!

  33. Susan says...

Caroline ring on her left hand is gorgeous. Hoping that’s it’s not vintage or one of a kind so that I can pick one up… thanks!

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

Thank you!! Sadly, it is an antique (actually an old onyx and turquoise stick pin that was converted into a ring).

  34. Morgan says...

Caroline where is your GORGEOUS ring finger ring from ?!! I’m obsessed!

  35. Julia says...

I wish Madewell would offer tall tops SO BADLY. Routinely they show a model wearing a slouchy shirt that falls to the mid-hip, but when you hunt down the actual length (which you can sometimes find on Nordstrom’s site, if Madewell fails to disclose it) it’s like 21 inches long. I am six feet tall–on me, 21 inches is a crop top.

    • Amanda says...

Yeah, I LOVE the styles of their tops but they run so short I can’t wear them. You can tell that their dresses run short too, on Joanna.

    • Heidi says...

I agree- every top I have ever bought from there I have returned because it was way too boxy and short. Especially in the plus and larger sizes. I wish they knew to increase size by the length as well as the width!

    • Hilary says...

      Julia-

I’m 5’4″ and I support this message! 21 inches is short on me too- especially if it’s a top that I might want to wear to work. Definitely too short to lift the arms/bend over/etc. Why is EVERYTHING cropped this year?!

    • Joyce says...

Seconded! I’m 6′ 2″. Years ago (2012?) I was in Dallas, TX for a work trip and visited my first ever Madewell and bought my favorite dress of all time! It is such a nice length, above the knee but not too short. I still wear it! I feel like every year since (especially after moving to NYC) I’ve tried to go to Madewell multiple times and buy another dress in that length…and I’m always disappointed. They are cute but are SO. SHORT. Please Madewell, lengthen your stuff. :)

    • K says...

Same here! I have sadly had to return many cute tops because they were too short it was uncomfortable to wear! :( I love their stuff besides this.

  36. Caroline says...

I picked up the olive green jacket a few weeks ago and am over the moon with it! Can’t wait to wear it with everything this fall.

    • Peony says...

Got the same one (Passage Jacket) and really like it. Substantial and crisp fabric without being too heavy, inner waist cord if you want it more nipped in and overall feels well constructed.

    • amy says...

Same! Got one last year and I wear it nearly every day. Gets softer with age too.

  37. Emily L says...

Is it wrong that I want those paperbag pants purely because the color is “Maple Syrup?”

    • AE says...

Not at all! I just repainted my hallways a color based SOLELY on the name 😂

  38. Alex says...

    THE RUGBY STRIPE RETURRRRRRRNS!!!!

I too have been waiting <3

  39. celeste says...

I’d pair the puff sleeve top with the paperbag pants if money was no limit. And of course we need to know Caroline’s nail/lip shade names. :)

    • Vish says...

Seconding the request for nail and lip shades.

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

Thank you! The lipstick is YSL Rouge Pur Couture #202, which I like to apply full force and then heavily blot with a tissue to create more of a deep stain. The nail polish is Essie Russian Roulette, one of my old standbys. :)
