Which decade’s styles are you most drawn to: the 70s, 80s or 90s? Here are three fall looks inspired by years past…
The 70s: Your hair may or may not be feathered. Your carpet may or may not be a shag. The legs of your jeans are often wider than those of your peers. You are not afraid of corduroy.
This fleece jacket has a distinctly 70s vibe. The sartorial equivalent of a teddy bear, it’s a cozy piece you can cuddle up with whenever the temperature dips. The color is equally warm, like a toasted pecan or an autumn leaf as it flutters to the ground. On the practical side, it’s great for layering and pairs well with denim. (Everyone at our office now wants one, and we also LOVE this sweater.)
The 80s: You’re excited by pesto and also by sundried tomatoes. Your cultural touchstones include any or all of the following: Ferris Bueller, Molly Ringwald… Alf. In your ideal world, berets will always be raspberry and rain will always be purple. You’re no stranger to bold makeup.
This striped rugby shirt was designed by J. Crew in 1984 and recently reissued because it’s a classic. The casual fit and bold stripes give it an easy, athletic feel, without actually requiring you to sprint down a field. (We also love this roll neck sweater, which hearkens back to 1988.)
The 90s: You find yourself effortlessly quoting Clueless. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says; Beyoncé will always be a member of Destiny’s Child. You have worn this lipstick, un-ironically. You have an affinity for overalls, flannel shirts and, last but not least, velvet.
Paying homage to the grungiest of eras is this romantic velvet bodysuit. It’s a little bit ballerina, a little bit Fiona Apple, in the best possible way.
If you’re looking to pick up some new fall pieces, you can find all of these looks (and more from every decade) at Nordstrom. We always turn to them for their wide selection, and because shipping and returns are always free.
Which look is your favorite? Do you find yourself wearing (or re-wearing) anything from past decades?
