12 Awesome Pieces of Art for Kids

A great piece of art can make a child’s bedroom come alive. But it’s not always easy to find options that will stand the test of time. Here are a few picks that kids can enjoy on their walls for years…

P.S. Great wallpaper for children, and a charming nursery tour.

  1. I’d frame any of these prints for my living room!

I bought small Pewabic animal art tiles for one of my girl’s rooms and had them framed (bought 8 and have them framed in sets of 4). The tiles are beautiful and look amazing in a dark oak frame. I think this is not too kid-like and something that she will (hopefully!) cherish forever! pewabic.com

Art is such a great gift for kids or new parents! I have been giving these wonderful Houses of the Zodiac prints from StripedCatStudio.com for new baby gifts lately. There is a house print for each sign that is supposed to reflect what kind of house that sign would want to live in and it has the dates for that sign and a personality description on it. It’s fun to give something to the family that the baby won’t outgrow. Thanks for all of the new art ideas you’ve given me!

    Where is the rug from?

Obsessed with that peace sign tapestry!!!

  6. I lOVE Sharon Montrose (aka the baby animals prints)! They are so precious. We had a few of them in our little guy’s nursery. When he moved into his “big kid” room (he is three) he requested no more baby animals :( What did make the cut were photos of trucks and cars, some more graphic-style prints and our Peace Flag. We received a cool poster from the ACLU for donating which also looks great in his room. 20×200 has wonderful and affordable prints that suit baby and kids rooms. We’ve also found Social Print Studio to be great for printing and framing photos so they get off of our phones and onto the walls.

I’m an adult woman and I’m buying that heart print for myself!

I would like the take mountains and cloud one for my apt., lol.

My daughter’s nursery is a “sun, moon, & stars” theme in light pink, grey, and yellow, so when you featured Lauren’s nursery (https://cupofjo.com/2017/08/parachute-natural-crib-sheets/) I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with Birch Bliss’s pink moon print that she has! (https://www.etsy.com/listing/454713726/pink-moon-print-dreamy-moon-print-red?ref=shop_home_active_15) I’m so glad to see that you’ve featured them here :) everything they have is lovely!

My mom always told me that posters in a child or baby’s room should be interesting, stimulating, and eye catching and I try to remember that whenever I’m attracted by a pretty — but kinda boring — nursery print. I love Rifle Paper’s prints because they let the imagination go crazy: https://riflepaperco.com/shop/art-prints/.

I love all the prints! and it was so fun to see that a few of the prints are made in Canada ;) did you see the radical women print on the banquet site, Joanna?! It totally caught my eye and I have added the rainbow and the rad women print to my wish list

Little truths.com has the best ABC poster. I send it it to all the babies.

  13. I recently saw that Framebridge released a new collection of art in partnership with Penguin Books and it looks so cute! There are a couple pieces I want for my own room and a bunch of great options for nurseries or kids rooms…I have my eye on one of the Mitford pieces, that book is a favorite in our home <3

      those are so cute!

My favorite item featured is the peace sign wall hanging! Where is it from? I’d love to add it to my son’s nursery. Thanks!

    • Beth says...

It’s linked at the very bottom of the post. I love it too!

  15. Caroline says...

Do you know where the rug in that top photo is from? I love it! I’m in the middle of getting my nursery ready for my first baby, and I have been looking for a rug just like it.

I hung a bunch of Pom Pom garlands from a bamboo rod on the wall of my baby’s room. They look so bright and happy that they make me smile every time I see them (or see her seeing them or touching them… or chewing on them…) but they also look like large scale, kinda 70s textile wall art. I love the diverse subjects in the prints you picked, not just animals, etc. but kid’s room art doesn’t have to be just prints either!

    Here’s where I got the pompoms: https://www.etsy.com/transaction/1309422556

  17. The cloud from Max Wanger is delightful! And so are their prints generally – thanks for the lovely find!

  18. Angelina says...

Very sweet- am trying to get my kid’s rooms sorted out. I love Ricardo Solis’ images:)

  19. Lesley says...

    That sweet bird!

I always wish you would feature a company called Little Collector whenever you feature kids art. Their mission is to get kids into art by asking artists to create limited edition pieces just for kids. I have NO affiliation with this company (really!), but I think they are so awesome. It’s our go-to new baby gift these days.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      thanks for the tip, melissa!

  21. These are beautiful. I love the simplicity of the cloud print.

Okay I’m a big big Charlie Parker fan but I seriously can’t imagine any kid being stoked to have a random guy with a saxophone hanging on their wall all day and night. Maybe put that one in the living room and let the kid have a picture of a puppy.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

haha we actually have that one in anton’s room! he LOVES charlie parker and listens to him with alex. but i guess it depends on the kid! toby wouldn’t care one iota ;)

  23. Gen says...

    Very sweet!

We just moved my littles to big kid beds and redid their rooms. I’ve been admiring Brainstorm’s Ocean-Earth-Atmosphere-Space series from Little Otsu for YEARS and now we’ve got Ocean-Earth-Atmosphere in full swing! LOVE them.

I love the idea art in kids’ rooms. It gets over looked when designing a nursery but it’s such lovely touch. Side note: Any idea where the toddler quilt is from in the first image?

  25. elizabeth r says...

Original art can be surprisingly affordable too. These are great picks but there is just something about original art. Antique stores in small towns, art on the walls of coffee shops, art festivals, and college sales through art departments are all affordable places to get original art

  26. These are so fun – I love the heart and Volkswagon – but this post makes me a little sad. Growing up my parents never spent any time on decorating our rooms, often leaving them unfinished with empty walls and whatever wallpaper or furniture was already there. I was the youngest of four, so there was often no effort put into my room, and it was full of mostly hand-me-downs (which is fine, I just think they could’ve gotten more creative). It wasn’t so much a matter of money, but rather an interest to make the space a place that inspired me. Honestly, I didn’t even know decorating was a thing until I moved away and started cultivating my own design sense as an adult in my 20’s.

I think there’s nothing more lovely than parents who decorate their children’s room to inspire them as the grow up. If I have children, I’ll be doing the same. <3
