What everyday jewelry do you wear? Hoops have been around forever, but lately I’ve been noticing women wearing beautiful thicker ones. The earrings make a whole outfit feel laid-back and pulled together. I’d love to wear some this fall with a sweater and messy low bun.

Due to an irrational fear that the hoop will get stuck on something and rip through my earlobe, I cannot bring myself to wear hoops or dangly earrings of any kind, even though I think they look so lovely on everyone else. I stick to geometric studs or rhinestone studs, anything rose gold, too.
I’ve been loving gold hoops all summer and plan to wear them all year round going forward. On my Mexican vaca I wore big ones with my bathing suit and I felt instantly sexier and I wear a smaller pair to work when I want to spice up a basic outfit. You’d be surprised the affect it can have.

I feel absolutely naked without earrings. I’ve always worn studs but am getting bold in my old (40!) age and branching out the bigger, better glitz– such as hoops.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE jewelry. I tend to go for silver because that way I can get more things :) Right now I’m wearing a pair of Tahe hoops (similar to these https://www.amazon.com/Sterling-Silver-Hoop-Earrings-Tahe/dp/B06VTLPV9W) and a matching bracelet and a few silver rings. And Armani Exchange men’s watch. I like to mix things up.
I have a gold pair that look like the Halogen ones from Nordstrom. They were a 40th birthday present many years ago and I wear them all the time with everything. I have other hoops, too, and I think hoops are classic.
I got a pair of medium sized thick gold hoops from H&M and have been wearing them non-stop all summer! they’re the perfect thing to dress up simple outfits like jeans and a t-shirt: they make the outfit look intentional!

They do add quite a nice touch to your look! But I don’t wear earrings so that’s off my list. I think you also need a certain face type/shape to pull it off so well though!

Hoops are classic and never go out of style, though the ones you posted are not gold so they aren’t compatible with my ears. Unfortunately my piercing-holes must be snobby and sensitive because I get a horrible skin reaction to anything that isn’t real gold or silver, including vermeil and plated items. So over the last 12 years I have invested in a few pairs of gold hoops, 1 pair that are big but super thin, 1 pair which are thick and medium sized like the ones on the model in your post, tiny delicate ones that wrap my earlobe closely, and a pair of old-school door knockers, as we used to call them. They work for every occasion and last beautifully so it’s worth it!
You could be allergic to nickel, which is often used in costume and plated jewelry. I have to be careful, too, so I sympathize with you.
Sade in the 80tys. I’m not sure how to post an image, but she was my style icon as a teenager. She still is a major style icon!

For the longest time my pearls were my default, but Iāve been wearing hoops a lot. If I feel the need to take it up a notch I have some dangly natural shaped pearls from my aunt that I love.
I love hoops – love all the ones you linked, too, also but of course my favorites are the expensive flat ones.
I wear a small pair of silver hoops almost every day, and sometimes silver balls. I think they’re classic, not 90s!!!
My sister and I wanted to wear hoop earrings SO bad when we were little (and didn’t have our ears pierced yet). So we took those loose leaf binder rings and hooked them in the inside of our ears just above the lobe. We felt so cool. Haha, I totally forgot about that until I read this post. I also remember that my sister and I crushed up flowers and soaked them in hot water to make perfume when we were in elementary school. I could go on. Haha, so many desperate attempts to get around the limited resources of a being little. : )

I love it. I have a gorgeous pair of hoops I inherited (about an inch and a bit across, with an etched pattern, probably from the ’40s given original ownership)… and I can’t wear them, because grabby baby makes me think I’ll be missing my earlobes by the end of the day.
Pearl studs for now – good visual impact, classic look, not grab-friendly. Hoops next year, if I’m lucky.
Me too! My baby thinks my hoops are toys that hilariously make Mama say “Ouch!” I’l be in pearl studs for another six months for sure.

I love hoops. I have large-ish features and tiny dangly earrings feel off-scale with my face. I like studs, but I love the presence of medium sized hoops and how they balance my face. I hope they stay in style forever…although, at almost 38, I think I’m getting closer to the confidence to just wear what I know suits me, even if it’s not strictly fashionable.
I’m a fan of simple white pearl studs. They’re classic, understated and feminine. They magically soften features and yet look even more interesting the more subversive one dresses.
I’ve recently gotten on the hoops bandwagon and love it. Though I wonder about these… I really cannot handle heavy earrings. Was a bit sad because I love big dangly beautiful earrings, feels so glamorous but I always feel like they’re about to rip through my earlobes. My fear with thick hoops is that the weights would be unbearable.
Hi Laura! These hoops are all hollow inside and I think they’re pretty light. I tried on the “flat” ones recently at the Clare V. store and they’re definitely light as air. Hope that helps!

I could never, ever pull these off
I’ve been wearing large white gold hoops which, according to the jewelry shop, are made from “fragments” of white gold. I luv that they have that subtle sparkle and shine in them, not too overwhelmingly shiny, so I can wear them casually or during formal occasions.

Just a heads up, there has been talk of white women wearing hoop earrings being cultural appropriation. Personally I think it is one of those grey areas but I would like to hear from others.
Not gray to me. I have hoop earrings that I wore at least a decade before the college students calling this “cultural appropriation” were even born. Hoop earrings are a style that have been around for most of the last century. But I suppose, since the real tradition began with the Sumerians, unless we are Sumerian we shouldn’t wear them.
I think the issue is that when white women wear hoops, it’s “chic” or “elegant.” But when brown and black where them it’s “ghetto” or “ethnic.” Many years ago, I was at one of my first internships (in an art gallery) and wearing hoops. The owner actually said to me “You have the ghetto look going on today” and laughed. This would not have been said to me if I was white. I actually stopped wearing my medium / large hoops for a while (I have now gone back to wearing them almost. I wear tortoise medium hoops almost on a daily basis).
On a different note – hoops have long been a the norm in brown and black communities (bamboo hoops were affordable, Latina baby girls get their ears pierced early and are often small hoops, etc), but they come in and out of general “style.”
The problem is with asshats who would say anything a black or brown woman wears is ghetto. If it became Latina or African-American style to wear small gold studs and one coat of black mascara only, then that would be “ghetto.” The problem is racism. But to say that hoop earrings is “cultural” and because of that white women can’t wear it is beyond.
No one should be made to feel bad because of their totally appropriate fashion choices. That includes women of color. That includes white women.

I am living in my thin gold hoops at the mo. I just hiked a mountain in the highlands of scotland with mine. And in each picture, no matter how tired or ragged i look, the earrings give my face just enough polish. Never going back.
The Dream of the 90’s… The 90’s came back when I was in fashion design school (2009-2011) and it’s still here. That means it’s been back for almost as long as the original 90’s. We haven’t even reached the gross part yet(the late 90’s). Lord help us. These earrings need some mules and a nylon Prada backpack (No I am not being facetious). Depends..usually thin hoops, but I’m checking out tiny, delicate studs lately. I’m on the verge of my “mid-to-late 40s” and the idea of wearing all my ear piercings is thrilling me.
My uniform is tiny, rose gold hoops. I always feel polished and just dressy enough. I lost my last pair which I had for over 20 years and replacement them with Vrai and Oro.
