What birthday cakes do you make for your little ones? Toby always requests a donut cake, but Anton doesn’t have his own tradition yet. His third birthday is coming up, and the other day, he asked me at bedtime, “What do you think my special birthday cake will be? YOU NEVER KNOW!!!” So, I’d love to surprise him with a great one we can make year after year. Here are eight ideas (and I’d love to know your favorites)…
Lexi’s friend Erin‘s two-year-old son is obsessed with Charlie Rose (!), so naturally she ordered him a Charlie Rose cake (from Cake Clique).
Four-layer chocolate cake with Nutella buttercream.
Try layers of watermelon and peaches, like in this fresh fruit cake. (We actually served trays of strawberries for both our boys’ second birthdays, and all the kids went nutty for them.)
Rice Krispie treats with layers of peanut butter and chocolate frosting.
Vanilla cake with strawberry filling.
One of the crazy cakes from the iconic Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book. (See more awesome ones here.)
Thoughts? Which cakes do you like best? We might also do what my friend Abby does — decorate a simple cake with small toys and call it a day!
P.S. Slamdunk birthday gifts for kids of all ages.
