I’m excited today to introduce you guys to our new editor,
Megan Cahn. She’s wonderful and I know you’re going to love her! This spring, we had a big search for a new editor, and we got hundreds of applications from smart and awesome women. It was really hard to narrow down the list, but in the end, we were thrilled to find Megan. Here are some fun facts about her…

Her Backstory:

Megan was born in Spain, but grew up in Marin in Northern California. After college in San Francisco, she moved to New York City to try for a career in the magazine industry. Most recently, she has worked as a beauty editor at Elle.com and Refinery29. She loves to write and read about people and discover the interesting stories we all have in our lives. (For example, her first post on Cup of Jo, was about surrogacy.) Megan lives in Brooklyn with her fiancé Mac, her cat Edie and a whole lot of plants.

Lightning Round Q. & A. With Megan

Favorite book: It’s so hard to pick just one, but I can say I’ve loved all Jeffrey Eugenides’ books. Middlesex was one of the first novels I read as an adult that truly blew me away, and Virgin Suicides was a dreamy coming-of-age story like no other. If you liked Sofia Coppola’s movie adaptation (which I believe is her best after Lost in Translation), trust me, the book is even better. After reading his first two novels, I eagerly waited for him to publish a third, and when The Marriage Plot finally came out, I wasn’t disappointed.

TV show you always watch: I am not a huge TV person, and I have the (very-annoying-to-my-boyfriend) habit of falling asleep on the couch halfway through anything, whether it’s a movie or a half-hour TV show. But the shows that have kept me awake are Girls, Downton Abbey (RIP, tear) and Mad Men (another tear).

Daily breakfast: This may sound like something your grandma would prefer, but I am a big fan of fruit and cottage cheese. If I don’t have that, some walnut butter (I swear it’s much better than almond) on whole wheat toast does the trick. If it’s the weekend, eggs and lots of cheese, please!

Random pet peeve: I color coordinate all the clothes in my closet and will give you the side-eye if you hang something up out of place or facing the wrong direction.

Most memorable vacation: When my now-fiancé and I first started dating, he had to go to Jordan for three months for work. His absence was almost worth it because I got to visit him. We went on an amazing trip to the Wadi Rum desert where we rode camels into the middle of nowhere with a Bedouin guide and spent the night in tents surrounded by towering cliffs and red sand dunes. It was magical — the sky had never looked so big.

Dream vacation: These days I’ve been dreaming about road-tripping in the United States. I would love to see all the national parks in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. White Sands and Zion look so awesome. I seem to have a real desert theme going on here. I love Palm Springs, too.

A fun fact: I just ran the Brooklyn half marathon. I’ve joined sports teams in the past and done the gym thing, but my dedication has a tendency to waver. I was pretty proud of myself for going through all the training and making it across that finish line in Coney Island.

Activities you enjoy in New York: As a big thrifter, I pride myself on being able to find hidden gems in daunting racks of clothing and housewares. I have a few secret places in Queens that I’ve been frequenting for years. I also love finding restaurants with great backyards and drinking wine in them.

The #1 thing on your summer wish list: This summer I’m on a mission to find a bathing suit I love and feel comfortable in. I have a tendency wear the same black triangle style — and often same suit — year after year. This year I am going put in the effort. As of now, I am eyeing this pale blue top and bottom from COS.
