Yoga can be a great way for parents to unwind and find some peace and relaxation amid the stress of daily life. Here are a few yoga poses that can be beneficial for parents:
Child’s Pose (Balasana): Kneel on the floor with your toes touching and your knees slightly apart. Lower your hips back to your heels and stretch your arms forward, resting your forehead on the floor. This pose is great for relieving stress and tension in the back and neck.
Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana): Begin on your hands and knees with your hands shoulder-width apart and your knees hip-width apart. Lift your hips up and back, straightening your arms and legs to form an inverted V shape. This pose can help alleviate back pain and improve flexibility.
Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II): Stand with your feet about 3 to 4 feet apart and turn your right foot out to a 90-degree angle. Bend your right knee, keeping it directly over your ankle, and extend your arms out to the sides at shoulder height. Hold for several breaths, then switch sides. This pose can help build strength and balance.
Tree Pose (Vrksasana): Stand with your feet hip-width apart and shift your weight onto your left foot. Place your right foot on the inside of your left thigh, pressing your foot into your thigh and your thigh into your foot. Bring your hands together in front of your chest and hold for several breaths before switching sides. This pose can improve balance and focus.
Seated Twist (Ardha Matsyendrasana): Sit on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you. Bend your right knee and place your foot on the outside of your left thigh. Twist your torso to the right, placing your left hand on your right knee and your right hand on the floor behind you. Hold for several breaths, then switch sides. This pose can help alleviate lower back pain and improve digestion.
These are just a few of the many yoga poses that can be beneficial for parents. Remember to listen to your body and breathe deeply as you move through each pose. With regular practice, yoga can help you feel more relaxed, centered, and ready to take on the challenges of parenting.
What about sitting in a cat/cow position and then pretending your back is swinging? I used to believe I could tolerate the additional weight in the photographs, but it’s all the movement that drives me insane.
I love her style!
Corpse made me laugh. 😝
If my little guy came nose to nose with me like that during sphinx, I’d be in bliss. 💕
This is all so true! Love the corpse one especially.
I started yoga when my son was a bit older than a toddler, but I can still relate to this because of my cats! They hear me unroll my mat and come running. They keep me company and try to join in haha!
Exactly. You made my day! Thank you, Becky!
Haha this is my daughter and me whenever I do yoga in the same room.
Haha! This takes me back to when my son was little! Welcome!
Hahaha Welcome Becky!!
Welcome Becky!
I do relate with my cat, who always stuffed herself up my face when I was doing downward dog. And if she installed herself on top of me and started purring, I couldnt help to stop, whatever the pose, to enjoy the hug.
haha i always joke that my favorite yoga poses are corpse, child’s pose, and happy baby
Haha my daughter and I have been in all of these exact poses together.
My mom does not do yoga, but I think she can absolutely relate to this. My sisters and I would NOT leave her alone when we were growing up. My nieces and nephew are definitely similar. My sisters and I like to trade back rubs when visiting one another. The kids are always up in our business, laying on legs. Faces in faces. Etc.
you could also substitute a dog for the child, and it would still be accurate!
agree! I would only add a slide of my dog licking my armpit every time I try to do an arm balance haha – truly hope everyone’s children refrain from that kind of behavior, but who knows! :)
Yep, this is pretty much what happens when I try to do yoga around my kids. Also, my cat — he gets very excited by downward dog.
What about the combo of sitting on your back in cat/cow, and then acting like your back is swing. In the pictures, I used to think I could handle the extra weight, but it’s all the movement that drives me bonkers
Haha, this is perfect! I can relate.
I’ve even tried doing Cosmic Yoga (YouTube) with the kids and it still ends up exactly this way (no shade on Cosmic Yoga; my kids loved it. I just shouldn’t do it at the same time.).
