My child never took to pacifiers, but that one I felt down in my bones- finding the thing, a thing that calms the baby and lets everyone sleep. The small things that allows you grace and a reprieve. When you wake you can be a better parent because your brain is working better. It is a small thing that keeps on giving.

That feeling of opening a new book and reading the first page and realizing you are going to love this book- that’s such a good feeling.

Real life example of finding the perfect book at the perfect time…
I had planned a whole self-care day a couple weeks ago where I was going to walk to a local bookstore to buy a book (about 40 min each way) and then a cafe for a treat & coffee.
Once I walked all the way there I saw it was closed! And so was the cafe. Bummed. But, on my way home I stumbled upon a new coffee shop and a Little Free Library (if you know you know). There was a Nicholas Sparks book inside whose main character shares my name. I took that as a sign and grabbed the book. I know, I know – his books are so cheesy and unsubstantial. Turns out, that’s exactly what I needed during these crazy times and I have been devouring the flowery writing and mushy romance every night before bed!

CoJ team, can we please have another book chat again soon? I need some more reading suggestions, and your readers always have good ideas!

I am reading Deacon King Kong by James McBride and let me tell you, it is amazing. It’s about a shooting in the projects in Brooklyn in the 60s. Beautifully written, funny, powerful, just the whole package.

    • Erin says...

Thanks, Julia! I will check it out!

CoJ team should make a Goodreads group for people to find each other on there! :)

Nailed some of them, Grace. Thank you, as I think, but fail to comment, every Friday. Well done.

Yes on the book! I happened to start Wow No Thank You by Samantha Irby this week and her humor SAVED ME. I would have been a mess without having an escape this week.

That’s so funny, my hold finally came up at the library for the audio book version. I listened to it, non-stop this weekend. I want to be her friend……I have interesting glasses!

A few years ago, I started a bedtime ritual of thinking of three things I was grateful for before going to sleep, I tried to keep it focused on what happened that day. Thinking of something positive, even if it is small, helps me fall asleep quickly because it squashes the racing worried thoughts.

Thank you Grace! Always enjoy your Friday posts! 🥰

Very funny coincidence: I’ve begun a gratitude journal and it is sitting here on my desk waiting for me to begin and this post appears : ). So, thank you for the supportive vibes!
