A Snowy Marriage Proposal

This is so fun and sweet!

My husband proposed to me in Grand Central Terminal after performing a crazy amazing dance (which naturally attracted a crowd). 2016.

I’m don’t mean to sound rude, but who are Bailey and Spencer? Is one of them a contributor to CoJ? Or are they readers?

My brother is traveling with his girlfriend from South Dakota to NYC this week to propose. I’m over the moon for them. He had been so anxiously sweet trying to think of all the details and has had the ring for months. One big concern he has is the moment being captured… Crossing my heart and fingers that NYC brings him a sweet stranger to take all the photos.

My husband proposed on a flight in 2008. Despite the fact that it was after 9/11, he still charmed the flight attendant into letting him get on the PA. He told me he was going to the bathroom and I was already nose deep in a book so I wasn’t listening to the beginning when he started his speech. It wasn’t until he mentioned the “women in row 5” that I noticed the flight attendant looking at me, with my camera pointed at me that I even realized he was talking. It was a complete surprise and the entire plane applauded when I stood up (or tried to without banging my head on the overhead bin). I was so surprised and shaking, I didn’t take the ring out of the box and held it carefully instead of putting it on. It was perfectly awkward. The even bumped us up to first class and gave us Champagne.

I thought we were going out for brunch so I was in the bathroom getting ready.
When I came out of the bathroom my boyfriend and dog were nowhere to be found. The laptop was set up with a slideshow of pictures from our 10 years together. At the end, there was a note that said “come find us”
I went on a little scavenger hunt that took me to a local cafe, my work, a favourite restaurant and had me call both my mom and dad for clues. We live overseas so it was such a nice way for them to be involved.
I finally found my way to a beautiful park overlooking the river.
My boyfriend and puppy were sitting there waiting for me with a picnic.
He had the camera all set up and caught it all on video when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
I barely let him finish before I blurted out “of course” and then told him how sneaky he is!!
Just over a year later we got married on a beach in Hawaii surrounded by our families.

We were walking to my apartment after I’d been away for a few days and he insisted on carrying all of my bags… I had A LOT of bags, so I thought that was weird but didn’t protest. Still suspecting nothing, I got the mail and started the climb to my second floor apartment with him trailing behind with all my bags HA! I was flipping through the mail while opening the door and I immediately thought I’d been robbed until I then realized what was happening. He “broke into” my apartment earlier that day and scattered hundreds of printed 4×6 photos of us everywhere and also spelled out “Will you marry me” in photos. He then got down on one knee and I have no idea what he said (oops)! We had champagne and went to our favorite Italian restaurant to celebrate… where unbeknownst to me our immediate families were there waiting for us! I’m a hard person to surprise but he pulled it off and it is such a wonderful memory!

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME this is the best thing I have ever read in my entire life!!!! So sweet and special!!!! I can’t handle it omg.

I interrupted my partner’s marriage proposal with “ARE YOU ASKING ME TO MARRY YOU?!?!” It was pure unbridled stokage on my part and I couldn’t help the timing. But I did say yes once I let him get the words out! Just minutes before I was thinking to myself, “What a lovely moment; this is the kind of time that would be so nice for eventually getting engaged.”

The least romantic thing ever, but apt for me and my partner: We’ve been together consistently since we were young teenagers, and moved in together at 18 (we were too poor for dorms and rent on our own, ha!). This year he had to move a state away for an internship to finish his PhD, and for a number of reasons it made sense for me to stay in our current city, where he’ll be returning when the year ends. I was 29 approaching 30 in early October this year, and I realized we should probably get married at 30 because it’s a nice round number and I guess it’s time. Next, a friend pointed out that 10/10/2020 is on a Saturday, and I liked those numbers, too. Never one to wait, I texted him, “We should get married when we’re 30, and 10/10/2020 is a Saturday so I think we should do that day.” His response, “We can talk about it, but yeah, that sounds good to me!”. My friends were like, “Wait, are y’all engaged?” Our answer is still “Guess so!”. Guess its time to actually plan a wedding now?!

On a day where the world feels like it’s going to hell in a handcart (I’m in the UK and am completely baffled and heartbroken and just plain angry by what happened in our election), this whole post, and all the stories, are reminding me that love wins, every time. Thank you.

I got engaged this past summer and it was the best best best. We were hiking in the Yukon and I didn’t know it at the time, but my now fiance, was so nervous and trying to find the right moment all day. He built up his nerves at the last possible moment of the day… in our teeny tiny pup tent. I had just popped in my retainer and had my eye mask propped on my forehead (so sexy) ready to sack out for another big day of hiking when he asked. I was laughing and screaming and shrieking (in the best kind of way). The next morning the hikers who were camping next to us asked if there was a mouse in our tent!

I love proposal stories! I thought my now husband might propose to me on my birthday (2009) but then when I came home after work, my big surprise was that he had flown in my mom since I had been so homesick! Nothing happened that night – we all went out to dinner, had cake, etc. But then the next morning he planted the idea in my head that we should take her to our favorite brunch place that has an old photo booth. We take everyone when they come to town so it wasn’t anything unusual! My mom also kept saying “don’t you want to put on makeup or take a shower?” but I was like “for brunch?!” After we had eaten we went to take the standard strip of photos – my mom and I got in first, then the three of us, then just my husband and I. While he and I were in there, my mom planted a pre-taken strip from earlier in the week with him holding up signs that said “will – you – marry – me.” I didn’t think he could surprise me but BOY did he!
