Michelle Obama dancing with Barack Obama

On Sunday evening, I was eating popcorn and scrolling around Instagram (as one does) when I stumbled across a quote…

Technically, it was a quote about a quote:

“When Oprah interviewed Michelle Obama, Oprah asked how Michelle got over feeling intimidated sitting at big tables filled with smart, powerful men and Michelle said, ‘You realize pretty quickly that a lot of them aren’t that smart.’ I think about that quote every single day.”

Boom.

What is it about quotes? They’re like one-sided conversations with your psyche, cutting out all the small talk and hitting you right where it’s needed.

A couple years ago, during an intentionally-trying-to-change-my-life phase, I took to writing quotes on my bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker. I’d update it every weekend and read over the words when I washed my face and brushed my teeth. They may have sounded a little like what a basketball coach says before a game, but I found it was surprisingly effective (even if everyone who came to my apartment was like, “What’s up with that?”).

Maybe, I thought, as I hit the “like” button, it’s time for the quotes to make a comeback.

What Quotes Do You Love

Do you have a favorite quote, or a phrase you turn to when the going gets tough — whether it’s from a famous person, or from someone in your life?

P.S. Becoming the person you’re meant to be and wise words.
