Tonight, my friend Gemma and I are sneaking away from our families and meeting in Manhattan, ordering popcorn and watching the new movie The Farewell. Have you heard of it? Awkwafina stars as Billi, a young woman whose grandmother has only a few weeks to live — but doesn’t know it. “The family thinks it’s better not to tell her,” explains Billi’s dad, so, as an excuse to all travel to China to say farewell to their grandmother, they throw a pretend wedding. The movie has gotten a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and I’m really looking forward to it.

Have you seen any good movies lately?
