Brooklyn-based Liz Libré not only creates beautiful textiles herself — like radish sheets! — but also has a way of pulling together outfits that feel as dynamic as she is. “Great design and durability is the sweet spot for me,” she says. Here, the mother of three reveals five ensembles she wears on repeat…

“With a new baby, I wear tops that he’ll feel good nuzzling into and that can withstand a little drool. James is such a sweet, chill guy; I’m obsessed with his breath. This popcorn sweater is actually from the children’s label Misha & Puff. My daughter Louise was given one years ago, and I always wished it were mine. So, when I saw an adult version on sale, I couldn’t resist. I’ve worn it every third day since! It’s the most comfortable thing I own.”

“When shopping, I look for clothes that are workhorses. They have to hang in there. (I still wear the first pair of jeans I bought when I moved to New York 15 years ago; there are now holes in the knees.) For that reason, I’m a huge fan of Loeffler Randall — I wore their shoes at my wedding over ten years ago! These pom pom sandals are so comfortable; the bottoms are almost gummy. I’ll wear them to death. P.S. My foot tattoo is a butterfly. I was 15. My mom did not freak, but my dad FREAKED.”

“I walk my two older kids over a mile to school every day, so that’s a huge factor when getting dressed. Even at three, my daughter walked on foot the whole way — she gets a chocolate milk or hot chocolate as a treat. When I was little, I went through many, many rough fashion phases. Do you remember Multiples? Everything was interchangeable. The tops could be skirts; the headbands could be belts. I loved them! I paired them with white pleather boots that my friend and I each got from Kmart. We thought we were so cool. My mom never bought me Freezy Freakies, but I really, really wanted them, too.”

“Even as a textile designer, I tend to wear one pattern at a time, versus mixing them. A little goes a long way, right? The shops Bird and Mille carry great textiles; the main model at Mille is a little older and wears the clothes so naturally. I follow small brands on Instagram, too, which is how I learned that illustrator Leah Goren had re-released her knit sweater that I’d been eyeing for over a year. And I always wear glasses. Five years ago, everything suddenly got blurry, especially at night. It got embarrassing, where I couldn’t see who I was talking to. Clear glasses felt like a softer step from not wearing glasses.”

“At work, I do all my drawings with India ink which doesn’t come out of clothing, so I have to be careful. But to me, style is the way you wear your clothes — how you walk in them and how you interact with people in them. An old classmate of mine was raised by an eccentric aunt, who was unbelievably cool. She had purplish-black hair, carried crystals and wore tea rose perfume you could smell a mile away. In my young impressionable eyes, she was the most stylish woman because she was wholly herself.”
