I agree with the others who said that this post doesn’t belong on this blog…. Packing tip? Not really. I get that sponsored posts are a must but this doesn’t fit with your content.
I agree with many of the commenters here. Cup of Jo’s sponsors are usually values-based brands that are (more) gentle on the environment. As someone who appreciates all of the beauty contained in your blog, I’m really sad that a company with such ugly practices (egregious animal testing among them) made your cut. I’m also disappointed that you have chosen Gilette (as well as others) that have so much unnecessary packaging.
Please give more careful consideration to your sponsors, the impacts that they’re having, and the message you’re sending by promoting them.
My husband had a razor blade get dented in his toiletry bag that caused a huge gouge on his face when he was shaving. A case like this would have saved his face and our pictures! Great idea.
I also can’t understand what is gross, and this is product is an unnecessary waste of money. And it’s hardly nit picking to say this or point out a company’s ethics or lack thereof when Jo is being paid to promote their products. Is no (constructive) criticism allowed in blogging? This is Jo’s job, in any other job one receives criticism and you put on your big girl pants and deal with it.
This is sponsorship (and to a lesser degree the Old Navy post) really disappoint me. The more I see this type of content, the less excited I am about Cup of Jo.

Wow! I’m surprised so many readers are defending animal testing for toiletries. I’m guessing they are in the dark about what it involves and why the outdated practice has been banned around the world. Really wish consumers were more educated about products they buy and would boycott companies with unethical, inhumane practices. If we stop being passive about animal testing and demand that companies stop using it before giving them money they will change. Meanwhile, there are so many companies to choose from who do not test on animals and have great products – how about we buy from them instead?
I’m not trying to be a snot or nitpick, just want to say that I’m really turned off by this choice of sponsor. Sponsored posts from Gillette really stick out when compared to other more ethical companies this blog promotes. I’m a long time reader and understand that blogs evolve but such a low standard of sponsors makes me concerned about the direction of A Cup of Jo. Much prefer hearing about cool, small companies, or ones providing a unique service to giant companies who partcipate in animal cruelty.

I love the little case! Not sure why anyone finds this more wasteful than a regular razor with disposable heads, much less a totally disposable razor. And, uh, ziploc bags are also disposable, last time I checked.
I detest shaving, and I generally wax my legs (with the strips– liquid wax is way too much hassle). However, I just bought an epilator after someone’s comment on your last shaving post and whoa, it is awesome! Haven’t had the guts to try it on the armpits, though. I waxed those once and NEVER AGAIN.
I agree with many of these comments – yes, this is a REUSABLE razor – it comes with a case and a blade and probably an extra blade – $10 is a fair price – where have you been buying your razors and blades? The hard plastic case isn’t that bad – putting a razor in a ziploc or even a cotton drawstring bag will not protect you from getting cut. And…I’d love to scutinize the homes of those who are posting holier than thou comments about waste. For those who comment about Gillette doing animal testing – you may have a legitimate complaint, but why do you assume everyone has to share your opinions? I don’t assume you all share mine…
Or, you could not shave your legs.

As others have said, I am not a fan of the extra plastic here. Also, although it’s not as long as a regular razor, it looks basically equally bulky just in other directions. You know how new razor blades come in a little plastic capsule? What I would do (if I’m flying somewhere I don’t check bags so I usually don’t bring a razor at all, but for road trips etc) is simply remove the old razor blade, pack a new one, and to pack it going home, use that little plastic capsule and a little bit of tape or a rubberband to keep it on.
Personally I would try to protect the blade in transit not just because it’s “gross” otherwise (how is it really that gross?) but because little dents and nicks in a blade make it work less well meaning you have to replace it more often–again generating more plastic.
Again like others have said, I understand the need for sponsored posts sometimes, but this seems irresponsible.
PRO-TIP:
Before you head out on vacation, “borrow” a binder clip from the office. It perfectly covers the razor head, never comes off like those little plastic covers, and let’s your razor stay dry and protected. I love that I can just toss it in my bag and not worry about it.

It’s not a one-time use razor. It’s refillable and you keep the handle and case forever. You just replace the blades every so often…So, it’s actually less wasteful than buying disposable razors.
I just throw things into Ziplock bags. Easy peasy.

I would never spend this much money for a one-time use razor. I buy the cheapo single-blade BIC razors…they come with a cap to cover the blade, so they travel well, too!

Though I don’t mean to be a downer, I thought you might want to know.
Why is chucking a razor into your toiletries gross on so many levels?? If it’s a disposable razor it’ll be clean when it goes in and you will chuck it out before you pack up to come home again, and it’s impossible to cut yourself on a safety razor right?
If you’re that bothered just wrap it in a ziplock bag… What a waste of money and packaging.

Before I even scrolled down and saw that it was sponsored I thought “oh! what is that mini razor, that’s brilliant!” Plus, I always forget to unpack my razor right away and end up in the shower and “borrow” my roommate’s, which I know is just terrible. Sorry, roommate :( So, having a specific travel razor would be helpful. For both of us.
It would make more sense to pack a clean razor into a cotton drawstring bag to prevent cutting yourself or it touching your cosmetics. Much better than tossing individual containers into the trash after single use products.

Super idea! I used to have a razor that opened up like a lipstick. It was cool, but I can’t find it anymore! Nice thing about this, it’s completely covered up and easy to find. Plus, you can leave it in the shower. So smart.
