By the wonderful Grace Farris.
P.S. Solo meals and a toast party!
Chaos.
Definitely weekend warrior! Love a fresh pastry and a slow cup of tea
Chaos menu here!
Usually strictly carbs, maybe carbs and cheese, on weekdays (freezer waffles anyone?) I do love a big breakfast on the weekend but pretty much just if someone else is making it.
I’m not a breakfast person, I’ll only eat an egg if it’s a plain cheese omelet and I get sick of yogurt and berries. I also almost never drink coffee or tea (I love both but now that I work from home I never think to make them), so lately my attempts at being healthier in the morning and bringing back my in-office rituals is having a large glass of water and a cosmic crisp apple in the morning. It tastes like progress!
I AM a sucker for pastries, but I don’t indulge that often-when I go to Europe in June that is flying out the window. Pastries every day!
I usually make a big smoothie to bring to work (protein powder, almond milk, peanut butter, Chia seeds, strawberries and banana). On weekends I love toast and eggs, and every Sunday I make pancakes and bacon for my 10 year old son.
I wake up desperate for breakfast!
My partner makes tomato eggs (sauteed ginger, garlic, white onion, mirin, shaoxing wine, a heap of the most fragrant, heftily cubed tomatoes, setting aside briefly on a plate. Turn up the heat on the stove, to get the wok RIPPING hot, and pour in beaten eggs (sometimes with a little cornstarch slurry) so they are golden and pillowy. Combine the tomato-wonder with the eggs, gently folding to combine. Lay a sturdy foundation of microwave-steamed leftover rice, drop a layer of any soft greens you have in the kitchen (peashoots are my favorite), and then nestle tomatoes on top. The most heartening and you’ll-be-okay breakfast while I finish writing my dissertation.
I loooove breakfast. Right now we’re in Costa Rica for six weeks and it’s usually a fresh banana first thing then I make eggs, potatoes, black beans, ground beef, avocado, and or tortillas and more fruit. Plus coffee with honey and full fat coconut milk!
On Christmas Day for the past few years, my husband and I have cooked a waffle breakfast with all the fixings for his family, and this year our 19-year-old nephew said, “This is the best meal of the year!” 😄💕
If all that was left in the world were english muffins and peanut butter, I would survive.
Same 🥰
Either everyone in the comments have very fancy breakfasts, or I’m more in the “chaos menu” category than I realized. hahaha
1 egg (from our hens), soft boiled and homemade whole grain toast. Every. Single. Day. I love it. Oh, plus coffee!
I have the same breakfast every day too. One slice of toasted sourdough with vegemite and avocado. Occasionally on the weekend I’ll have a poached egg on top liberally sprinkled with the Trader Joe Everything but the Bagel mix. Which is so delicious. If I’m home alone I have this for dinner too. I’m definitely a savoury palate. Sweet breakfast makes me feel unwell.
This is so good (as always) – strong chaos menu + coffee snob here
My husband makes me scrambled eggs every morning and either a homemade latte or regular black coffee. My 3 year old gets banana pancakes or oatmeal, it looks a lot like the chaos menu haha
We went on our first family holiday to a Sydney (we live in Melbourne Australia) and stayed in a fancy hotel. By far the stand out for the kids for the entire holiday was the Breakfast Buffet! They still talked about it on the regular!
Which hotel in Sydney? We love hotel breakfast buffets. Crown in Melbourne has a nice one.
So funny because this was an ongoing argument/conflict between my husband and I for YEARS. I am a breakfast person, but he is not. So we compromised. We do our own thing in the mornings monday-friday, but have a sit down slow breakfast on weekends.
Ha, ditto! My husband wakes up imagining his meal, whereas my appetite doesn’t wake up until noon. His excited “What do you want for breakfast???” question immediately upon waking made me nauseous. So on weekends, he has first breakfast solo and we have second breakfast together :)
Mango black tea and skyr or greek joghurt with blueberries and homemade granola. Yum.
Always after dropping the kids at school because I’m not waking up earlier to eat breakfast. 2 pieces of Daves killer bread toasted. One with peanut butter to dip the buttered one in, my genmaicha tea, a glass of water, & vitamins! I have this every day except Fridays when my friend & I meet at the bakery with each of our youngest kids. Then it’s whatever sounds good!
Rooibus with stevia drops, several cups. I wish I could do caffeine but even one cup of tea will keep me awake until midnight or later which destroys my productivity. I need to be in bed with a book by 9:30, asleep by 10!
After tea, a blended cosmic crisp with half a beet, sometimes as a smoothie bowl, lately as a drinkable smoothy with only water added. Usually a variation on a fruit/herb/vegetable water smoothy. If I need something cozy and warm, then I’ll add hot water to the smoothie, or, occasionally like over this winter, make a Korean rice cake soup with bok choy in a simple kelp and shitake broth (I’m not Asian, lol, but this is a very comforting soup), or a vegan egg omelette with mushrooms and chard.
Greek yogurt with granola and blueberries, and a strong cup of black tea – always! Love seeing people’s different approaches to breakfast.
I’m fasting for Ramadan so my breakfasts are happening at 4AM for the next month. I stocked up on MahZeDar pastries and froze them so I can pop them out each day to have with my coffee for suhoor (meal before beginning the fast for the day).
Chaos Menu made me laugh out loud! The picture brings me right back to those days <3
Weekend warrior! I live for a long, lazy, multi-course brunch. Happy weekend everyone.
I’ve been fasting in the mornings and I don’t really get hungry in the mornings. My breakfast looks like an iced oat latte with MTC oil or collagen or both! My technical breakfast is my lunch since I’m breaking my fast around noon ;)
Always coffee. With cream. And then you never know, from sweet or savory traditional fare to last night’s leftovers. Palak paneer this morning.
Leftovers for breakfast are my favorite! With coffee, of course.
My kids make fun of me in the morning “cccccoooooffffffffeeeeeeee”
My fave? Muy Macho from Mayorga. If you like dark roast coffee, do yourself a favor and give it a try!
9 times out of ten it’s oatmeal with a dollop of homemade black cherry jam but sometimes when I’m not hungry or want to feel “different” I’ll jut have black coffee which often ends up in two coffees by 11 am
When I want to feel extra special I’ll have chocolate granola with whole milk
I would love to know how you make black cherry jam, Perla- if you don’t mind sharing.
@Marisa Renee Lee Hi there Marisa ! Thank you for asking .
My cherries are pretty sweet ( I think all black cherries are sweet by the time they’re ready to eat , right?)
I like to use a 2:1 fruit to sugar ratio but it’s really up to you.
I use Molly wizenberg’s recipe as a baseline and it works perfectly for cherries , apricots , plums , mulberries and quiet everything to be honest. Here’s the link !
Have a great weekend :)
thanks SO much- definitely making it! :)
I love breakfast so much we planned our wedding to be in the morning so we could justify a breakfast buffet… yogurt and homemade granola and coffee!
I wish I had been invited, Sarah! I was running to this post hoping to see my love of breakfast represented. “2nd breakfast ” has been a regular occurrence for my family, and I’m sad that our kids are segueing to the “2nd dinner” phase of life.
I did the same! Nothing like brunch as a way to celebrate and people still talk about our “donut wall” for appetizers. Plus I didn’t have to worry as much about alcohol consumption with various relatives who tend to go overboard.
We did the same! We had the whole brunch buffet setup and it was so fun. A friend of ours said “Hey, I wish I knew this was an option when we planned our wedding!”
Last week, I went to Paris with female friends, and here are a few photos, if you'd like to see...
