P.S. Moms on vacation, and vacation threats.
I love the drawings!
The other day I walked through Central Park *differently,* and it felt like a mini vacation. A friend and I usually walk on Thursdays, but finding myself walking alone, instead of staying on the paths, I climbed all the rocks like my kids used to do. It felt like a fun adventure, instead of just a walk, and I found an awesome patch of white pine cones–my favorite!!! xox
I love taking my toddler to new parks. It truly helps break up the weekend. We just discovered an Airport park that’s right next to a tiny airport. It’s so sweet to see him in awe of the planes going by and spending time outdoors together as a family.
Lol a slice of pizza at 1 pm on a workday sounds like…..a workday. Agree with visiting a new park, though.
Weaving for a couple of hours.
These sound a tad nicer than my typical mini-vacation, which is typically just me hogging our one bathroom (family of five) with a shower or extended visit. E-books on the phone for the win…and yes, even in the shower haha 🙈
Oh I love mini vacations! For my workday mini-vacation, it was stepping out for latte and croissant. Those days are long gone (work from home, parenting), and this moment makes me realize that I need to get mini-vacations back into my life! Right now, everything feels a little undifferentiated. Like, the special zing of the vacation moment isn’t as potent when I can do it any time — or don’t feel I have any time to do. Worth shifting my ways of thinking and doing, I think, to re-establish the difference between the work-from-home slosh of time and activities, and a special little moment apart.
I love these mini vacations. I go to the bookstore on Fridays (my day off) while my son is at school. I sit with a book and coffee, and that’s my mini weekly vacation.
I feel so seen, Regency London. I just ripped through the twelve books of Sheri Cobb South’s John Pickett mysteries–in a week. Thank you, library ebooks! So sad to close the last one!
I started a new position in Seattle this month, and if it isn’t raining, I get off the bus one stop early just to walk past Pike Place Market. It’s a mini-vacation start to my work day.
I don’t know if you eat meat, but if you do, you should grab a BBQ pork bun from Mee Sum Pastry one day and then it’ll be a REAL vacation. Those were one of my Seattle faves when I lived there a decade and a half ago — I think the Mee Sum is still there tho.
@Nicole We are taking our four year old to Seattle in July. My husband and I have not been in a decade. Any suggestions/recommendations especially good restaurants (our daughter loves food as much as us)?
I love these so much. Highlight of the week.
I had a mini vacation pizza slice today for lunch! It’s the little things in life, is it not?
An afternoon nap flanked by my two cats, as if they’re Patience and Fortitude and I am the steps of the New York Public Library.
My husband and I just binge watched the pride and prejudice bbc miniseries a few days ago, during the long weekend. That was a lovely mini-vacation, and I’m glad he loved it as well.
Yes to all of these. Especially the 1pm pizza.
L🥰VE !
This immediately transported me back to my office in Philly, before we went remote. If I had a really bad day at work I would go to my favorite lunch spot and get a slice of white pizza with thinly sliced fresh tomatoes on top, and a fountain coke. It tasted like being on a Jersey shore boardwalk so my mood always improved.
My daily mini vacation is walking my dog while listening to a funny podcast. My favorite right now is All Fantasy Everything, a group of comedian friends and guests fantasy draft topics like “words that make you sound smart”, “Disney songs”, “bald people” etc.
Also, my favorite regency era books are The Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas and the Union of the Rakes series by Eva Leigh, in case anyone needs to feed their soul with romance and a little smut.

The guy I'm dating just took me on an upstate weekend getaway. Here's what I packed...
