Haha oops this is me today. It’s still nice where I am but feeling fall-ish
*Googles what “hygge” means* …haha
I love this! I started the weekend early and went to a bookstore yesterday to treat myself to my first purchased book in a while (avid library goer) – the new memoir “Solito”. We are having unseasonably warm and sunny weather in New England though – may be reading outside instead of on the couch under blankets!
She might decorate a house plant with fairy lights!
Oh great idea
She’s going to give herself two nagging tasks to do: one to actually complete for the sense of accomplishment, one to ignore for the sense of delicious subversion.
I had to comment — this woman is wearing the same outfit I am right now! Guess I started the weekend early. Cooking a kettle of soup, btw. I feel like that could be on the list.
Haha! That’s so funny!
Me too! But I have slippers on ! Is she also wondering if yellow is a flattering color for her ?
If you want to add a cozy, semi-homemade “not a recipe-recipe” meal to this very important fall list, I just shared one here: https://knochknoch.com/blog-1/autumnal-essence
She’s totally going to get some fall-planted, spring-blooming bulbs (tulips, daffodils, iris, etc) and put them in the ground with nutrient powder, surrounded by chicken wire to keep the burrowing neighbors from eating them. She’s definitely not going to stick them in the garage real quick, forget about them, and find their sad shriveled bits in December while looking for an extension cord for the holiday lights
Ha ha, I did that last year!!
Just planted daffodils this morning. I lazily did not plant them as deep as I usually do, so I covered them with some extra leaves hoping to deter the squirrels. May still have to follow up with some chicken wire. Fall stuff.
Check in with a friend who lives faraway–yes! I’ll do this, thank you!
Ok, but my friend did start a freezer meal group and it was a REVELATION! 6 meals prepped and sent home for every group member to stick in their freezer and in under two hours (including clean up)?! Amazing! I’ve been telling literally everyone I know who doesn’t live near me to start one, so obviously I have to put this out to the CoJ community, too!
Oh my God, I need to know how this works! Can you describe?
Yes, Katy! So essentially you get at least enough people for how many recipes you want to make. I’d say at least 4 so you have at least one freezer meal a week/month. We have 12 ladies who make 6 recipes – two per station. But you could really could get by with one person/recipe. My friend is amazing. She hosts and gets everything but the meat x 12. This is where a small group might be easier to start because you would only have to multiply that can of beans by 4 or 6 instead of 12. But word has gotten out ha ha. Anyway. You could also rotate hosts. Then she’s able to buy spices in bulk and whatever we don’t use goes in a freezer meal bin for future use. She takes the total, divides it by 12 and sends us all the total via a Venmo charge.
The recipes are sent out with any necessary meat items so group members can get whatever kind of meat they like. Some sub ground turkey for beef or want their meat to be organic etc.
Someone is assigned typing out the cooking instructions and printing them out x 12. Day off, you come with your meat prepped and in a gallon ziploc. You drop it off at the designated station, go to your station and get to work. Everyone brings a basket or cooler and as recipes get finished, you deposit it in the members’ basket. We clean as we go, help those at stations with trickier recipes and usually wrap up in under two hours. You go home with your basket or cooler and stock your freezer. It’s so satisfying! We usually make crockpot friendly recipes but did marinades and stuff during the summer. We also try to have a few that you could throw straight onto the stovetop if needed. It sounds like a lot, but you will get a system quick and it becomes a game changer!
Visit far away friend!
And go to a thrift store together
Have a happy weekend!
*If American, she WILL make a plan to vote on Tuesday.* I’m early voting today. I can’t believe some of the a**hats running nationally so I’m going to get it done and then stick my head in the sand for a few days.
This is so important! VOTE! And check in with your friends, family, neighbors, etc to make sure that they have voted or have a plan for voting.
I just texted my 90-yr old next door neighbor to see if she needed any assistance getting to our polling place on Tuesday.
Absolutely! Go vote and continue fighting the good fight. We have to keep pushing back.
And good on you, Emma, for taking care of your neighbor by ensuring she can participate in this process. She has, no doubt, voted in decades of elections. You’re good people!
