What Kids’ Clothes Do You Like?

i used to dress my kids in Gap, Hanna Anderson and Boden. But now i make 95% of their clothes. such a huge creative outlet and stress relief for me. occasionally, i make clothes for friends and family or neighbor on commission https://www.facebook.com/woodlanddreams21/

absolutely love the process of creating with and for the kids i know. then watching them wear the pieces and grow in them.

Next UK has fantastic clothing at incredible prices. The clothing is soft and I love the designs.

Best purchase was a toddlers winter coat with detachable sleeves. Most of the time we don’t need heavy duty winter coats so this is the best solution, ever. Two coats in one

I will add, and I still struggle with my decision, that H&M makes excellent boys/kids slim dress suits. I spent so much time looking for dress suits and I know that company has so many issues, but it’s what ended up working for us last year for Easter. They’re machine washable and no-iron and very well made.

At a funeral service last summer, my oldest son helped the teenage boys and men shovel dirt to cover the casket (that’s our tradition) and I was so very proud of him and also thankful that his completely dust covered suit could be easily washed.

This is so funny! I can tell it’s not a particularly Southern crowd, because down here in SC everyone would say “Beaufort Bonnet, Pink Chicken, Little English, Prodoh, Kyte Baby,” a ton of smocked clothing brands like Smockingbird and Stitchy Fish. Many of those brands are a little TOO southern-prep for me, but just a funny geography thing! I have expensive taste but since I’m not insane, I mostly shop second-hand – there’s a super active mom FB group in our city where people buy and sell kid’s clothes and do “porch pick ups” (PPU). It’s a whole thing!

Hi! We have sought out brands with more transparent supply chains and have sustainable and fair trade commitments. We are far from perfect. Far from. But it is in my kind as we shop. And we are able to spend a bit more, in part because we also get hand me downs. So we get a lot of my daughter’s new cloths at Mini Boden. The clothes are adorable, they wash beautifully, and they live on through at least one more generation when we hand them down.

For my 8 year old daughter: Tea Collection, Hanna Andersson (the ONLY leggings and PJs we buy – they last and last and last), Matilda Jane — always on sale (PJs and leggings) OR bought second hand (dresses). There are so many great kid consignment stores near me.

For my 10 year old son: it’s athleisure everything!!! So again, kid consignment ($65 Under Armour hoodies for $15) and Marshall’s/TJ Maxx.

Colored Organics! Small business based in Minneapolis that is women-owned and all of their clothing is ethically made and organic. It’s the most adorable ever and SO SOFT…totally worth the slightly higher price!

I love Petit Bateau’s romper’s style. The clothes of this brand look so adorable. The other brands look good too, but I love Petit Bateau’s romper the most.

I lived in the UK when my son was born, and I despised how so much of the boy clothing was blue/brown. I came across the brand Frugi, which is organic cotton and very colorful. Their clothing at the time was also cut for cloth, meaning it had lots of extra space for cloth diapers. I splurged on a pair of rainbow leggings, before discovering that they do massive end of seasons sales and the large second hand market. It’s expensive, but really good quality. Everything I’ve purchase has been worn by my 2 kids, and I’ve passed a lot of it on to friends. It’s still going strong.
My oldest has now out outgrown it, but it is my go to brand for baby gifts.

I haven’t seen anyone mention what I do…shop the clearance items at Kohls and use my (rather frequently received) 30% off during their monthly week of free shipping to get cheap clothes for my boys! And then there’s the Kohl’s Cash…I love Kohls–probably a little too much. Sometimes I’ll buy a few items at Land’s End if they’re significantly on sale. I just don’t want to spend a lot of kids’ clothing! They don’t particularly care what they wear, and I’m glad. :) I’d rather save money for all the surprisingly expensive summer camps we send them to! And the food, and the sports, and the college tuition.

I love that everyone loves secondhand/hand me down clothes, they are the best.

When my mom (who lives in another country) came for her first visit after my daughter was born, she brought three newborn outfits that I had worn as a baby (adorable 1970s terry-cloth rompers and cotton overalls) and that she had been saving since then. She’d pull out more of these treasures on subsequent visits as my daughter grew – a tiny woolen toddler coat, a Christmas party dress, a traditional German Dirndl. She would reminisce about where she bought each piece and why (sometimes how much it cost!) and on what occasion I wore it. I nearly always got compliments when my children wore these clothes, none of my friends could believe that they were still in such good shape. My second daughter got the same treatment from her Oma (as did my brothers’ and sisters’ babies) when she was born.

My girls are 5 and 7 now, and have sadly outgrown all of these outfits. I’ve given away most of their baby clothes to friends and family, but I saved these ones of course, along with a handful of my own favourites for each baby. I hope I’ll manage to hang on to them until they are grown and gift them to another baby of the next generation if my girls or their cousins decide to have kids!

I have the oldest kid of all my friends so although I love hand-me-downs we often have to buy things new because I don’t have anyone to hand me things haha. If I can find what I need second hand, new it is and now that my kid is 9 things like parkas and leggings are impossible to find used. I like Columbia and Patagonia, Mini Boden, and some of the house brands from Nordstrom. My second kid is almost exclusively dressed in HMDs and we pass most things on after that.

Ohhhhh I LOVE shopping for my nearly five year old daughter. If it were up to me she’d be in black stockings, a velvet dress, mary janes and a black beret haha, but I chilled A LOT, because, do I love an elsa and anna sweatshirt? Nope. But do I love seeing my daughter happy? Yep.

My go to is Zara, H&M, Marks and Spencer and NEXT. (We live in a tiny city in Greece so our options are vastly limited)

For baby and toddler clothes, I love Burts Bees separates (the pajamas in the 12M and up size are too tight, but the separates are still great!)
And for pajamas after 12M, Hanna Anderson in two sizes up and Bonds Wondersuits both are really great for my chunky guy!

I browse local thrift stores every few weeks for kid stuff. I admittedly LOVE to hunt for treasures and it is my idea of a good time, but honestly a 20 minute visit once or twice a month to a Goodwill in an upscale neighborhood can be a goldmine. I want to buy well-made stuff that will last and isn’t literally tissue paper thin, but I also don’t want to spend $40 on a t shirt for a toddler. Enter thrifting. Boden, Hanna Andersson, Winter Water Factory, Nike, and Columbia gear that’s lightly worn and costs single digits? Yes, please. My hot tip is to remember that your kids will grow, so if you find clothing or especially shoes in great condition for a bargain, stash them for a year or two and thank yourself later.

It’s disappointing to see Zara on this list when they are notorious for using exploitive, slave and/or child labor.

I have not had to buy children’s’ clothes in a long while, but I can still remember the tears in the dressing room or at home because my daughter, also very tall, had such trouble finding anything cute in her size. It was also expensive the teen stuff costs more, I finally had my husband take my daughter shopping so he would understand. He came home and said to me “I get it now! By 4 o’clock you will pay any amount of money just to get her something she will wear!”
I had hoped this problem had gotten better. The awkwardness that this causes for developing bodies and body images is very real. Mammas I keep you in my heart ! Hang in there it does get better and you will both survive!

CoJ to the rescue again! My 2 year old is going to be a ring bearer this June and I am in such a rut of where to find the right outfit! I can’t wait to check out all these suggestions.

Any recommendations for cute semi-formal kids’ clothes? I’m getting married this summer and hoping my “flower children” will wear yellow dresses or jumpsuits :)

Babies and toddlers grow quickly so gently worn hand-me-downs have been the best! A family friend has a little boy 6 months older than my son and graciously passed on boxes and boxes full of clothes for us. This past weekend, I handed them down to my childhood best friend who is expecting a baby boy in April. Love seeing photos of all of our little guys in the same well-loved outfits.

When my children outgrew pre-school sizes and all clothes suddenly were heavily gendered, mini-adult, all dark colours and angry looking prints for boys and too slim and sexualised for girls, we found Jako-O, a German brand. They do have gendered clothes, but overall, the clothes look like actual childrens’ clothes up until almost-teen sizes. Fun colours, happy prints, colourful stripes, and all good quality. Recommended!

My favorite kids clothes are hand me down or secondhand! I refuse to spend more on kids clothes than I do myself! I do like Hanna Andersson pajamas and Lands End outerwear and will buy that new if I can’t find it secondhand in the sizes I need.
