Four Fun Things

In terms of natural deodorant, I have the Native deodorant in Lavender scent and it smells AMAZING, like being in a lavender farm. It works pretty well on a normal day, but I’ve found when I get sweaty, it doesn’t hold up. I still use dove because living in NYC, getting sweaty happens quickly and unexpectedly on warm subway cars, long stairways.. etc. but I recommend it to anyone looking, especially if you live in a cool climate and don’t get sweaty.

Because I’m health conscious and don’t use any scary stuff EXCEPT for aluminum antiperspirant, I tried for decades (seriously! Decades.) to find an alternative. I tried every single one I came across. They all either didn’t work, and I still stunk, or gave me such a horrible rash I was miserable. Two summers ago, at the urging of two similarly minded friends, I went the whole season using nothing, on the theory that you stop to stink after awhile and if you just wash your pits a couple times a day you can use nothing. Nope. After four months I stunk as bad as ever (and I’m vegan, for Pete’s sake, which people will tell you makes you smell less). I hated every single day of wet pits and wet stained shirts. I am officially a Sure solid unscented user for LIFE (I use only day after showers, couple times a week, and zero stink). And if it kills me, so be it. I think quality of life over quantity in this case. I honestly don’t know what makes nothing work for me, but I have finally just accepted it.

I thought I was the only one who found natural deodorants to be super irritating (I mean it’s natural! What’s wrong with my pits?). But $18 seems too much for deodorant.

Ahhhhhh, that Babaa sweater is amazing! I always want the impractical, expensive ones. And it’s 5 weeks of shipping and a bad Euro exchange rate away…
Sigh.

I have tried Agent Nateur, Tom’s Native Deodorant, Schmidt’s , Kopari , Crystal deodorant and Herban Cowboy. Herban cowboy is the only one that doesn’t burn my armpits to holy hell. I want to try Meganabe but I have been burned before and also how much can you justify spending on this stuff it’s so pricy!

My favorite podcast right now is Forever 35. It’s wonderful and their FB groups maje FB relevant to me again.

Yesssss, I’m all about sweater weather!! Fall is the best. As for deodorant, I recently tried type:A deodorant and love it! Schmidt’s worked well for me but eventually caused super painful irritation. I have Lume next on my list if type:A ever goes south, but truly it is excellent and I’d highly recommend. Will have to add this rec to my list, too! Thanks!

Hi there! I too have just started listening to Dr. Death and the new season or Serial! I love love love podcasts, they make my commute so much more interesting, I rarely even want to listen to music any more!

Wondering – do you have any recommendations for smart/funny/informative podcasts about parenting?

To those people that have commented on Rosy Pits – Antiperspirant and deodorant are 2 different things. An antiperspirant is the bad stuff – it literally blocks your sweat glands with aluminum and other chemicals. A deodorant makes your sweat not smell as bad. It’s natural to sweat – it’s really good for you!! Why we pretend that no one does is crazy. Why we spend hundreds of dollars on cleanses and detoxing supplements/powders/diets when sweating is detoxing is also crazy. Rosy Pits is the best natural everyday deodorant you can buy that I’ve found – and I’ve tried a ton over the last 20 years. But it’s deodorant and it isn’t going to stop you from sweating during your Soul Cycle class. Not sure why people are still so confused about the function of deodorant!

I have been struggling with losing the extra 30 pounds I gained after giving birth to my son…4 years ago. She emphasizes that micro-changes yield major changes. I started out just focusing on drinking more water. Once I felt good about that, I focused on creating and focusing on a bedtime routine- go to bed between 11 or 11:30 pm and wake up between 7 or 7:30 am. She also focuses on “non-scale victories “ which has been mindblowing. Just by focusing on my water intake and sleep, I have been able to comfortably wear jeans that used to feel really tight. Most importantly, I am losing mental weight which has helped me in other facets of life ❤️

I first purchased mega babe a few months ago on my quest to get on a natural beauty plan. ‘All my aluminum nightmares are going to disappear!’ I thought during the first week, feeling so organic with my hair blowing in the breeze, smelling DELIGHTFUL might I add, but then… oh, the sweat stains. It is definitely an effective deodorant but I never realized how hard my Secret was pulling it’s weight in the wetness protection department. I became very self conscious about raising my arms which is not the goal here people. My solution? I now layer deodorants like some people layer hair products. Rosy Pits goes on first (in my mind it’s a pseudo aluminum barrier) and then regular deodorant after as the backup heavy hitter. Result: I have sensitive skin and the red bumps I used to get on my underarms from my regular Secret use went away. Maybe Rosy Pits is my placebo, a kale salad before ice cream if you will, but it works. Best of all? The hours I poured into researching ‘best natural deodorant’ have really freed me up to binge watch Ozark on Netflix and write this lengthy review proving once again that CoJ is the best and most informative way to procrastinate at work.

I just bought the Native deodorant (cucumber & mint) and I’m loving it – no yucky, stinky, BO and very little sweat at the end of the day. I’ll have to check out mega babe to compare.

I love “the bittersweet life podcast” about two childhood friends, one who lives in Rome and the other who spent one year there and how they each experience(d) being a long term vs short term expat. They interview people from all over the world and let us arm chair travelers experience what living somewhere else is like.

I’m just so excited that Heavyweight returns this week! And if you haven’t listened to the Jonathan Goldstein-hosted mini-series Casting Call, it’s WORTH IT! (also loving Last Seen!)

I heard about Dr. Death on the Bitch Sesh podcast – would usually be right up my alley but I was having a spinal fusion the next week so…no. Ha.

Highly recommend Bitch Sesh if you like Real Housewives. The hosts did the hulu spoofs Real Housewives of Orlando and Las Vegas, which were also great.

Ok, going to try the mega babe deodorant! I’ve been using aluminum based deodorants, even as everything else in my life is natural and organic. Now that I’m breastfeeding my two-month old daughter, it’s finally time to make the change! Thanks for the recommendation :-)

Megababe’s antichaffe stick is the best. Life changing! Definitely gonna try this deodorant out too.

As someone who spent 14 months going through every natural deodorant I could get my hands on and trying not to smell, I gotta say: Stop trying to make natural deodorants happen.
