WOW! All about me, except newspaper)
Thanks for sharing.
I feel like Mari knows me as well as my dog does.
I always pretend to be in a music video in my head when ever I listen to music =)
It’s so real. And beautiful.
I love this so much. I have been working through each season of Golden Girls while I cook dinner and it’s truly been such enjoyable company to keep. I love seeing how resonating pretending you’re in a music video is for everyone. It’s silly trick I’ve used to make the world feel more magical by imagining i’m a particular character in a book or film/music video as I walk to work or take public transportation, I never even thought others might be doing it! Perhaps it’s because as I people watch, it’s hard not to view others as as being in their own little magical film/world.
Does anyone know where one can actually get the best dish drying rack?
Totally serious question here.
Lol! These are always so true.
I tried reading on a plane last month and kept falling asleep. I can resonate with listening to recordings in the kitchen, though. Right now, anytime I’m cooking or cleaning in the kitchen, I listen to Amor Towles’s Rules of Civility. Such a beautiful novel. I rarely recommend the audiobook over the actual book, but in this case I have to. Rebecca Lowman, who narrates the story, has an amazing voice for storytelling. Coupled with Towles’s writing, you will be instantly transported to post-Depression era New York City. Anyway, I will take off my book critic hat now. Happy Friday!
How does Mari just GET IT all the time?? I am all of these – except the newspaper. I read the NY Times on my iPad, weekdays at the breakfast table in a vague state of anxiety over the latest batch of bad news that came in overnight.
I was thinking the same thing. I’m every one of these…I wish I was the newspaper. I should be the newspaper.
“to pretend I’m on a music video” hahaha totally guilty
slightly off topic… but can anyone suggest any other good blogs to check out? there used to be so many that i loved and would check everyday, but now i’m down to cup of jo (which i loooove) and like, one other. i find myself obsessively checking for new posts and am starting to have unrealistic expectations for the volume of new posts i expect each day. if anyone has any tips for additional online content… i’m all ears. thanks. =)
Hi Dana!
I’m biased here, but I recommend my best friend’s blog, especially if you can relate to a twenty something figuring out life and how to manage depression: https://learnwithamy.wordpress.com/
And my own blog where I try to keep it real about life, my recent breakup, anxiety etc: https://htellsit.wordpress.com/
Other than that I like former Cup of Jo editor, Caroline’s blog, Hello I’m flawed and Gemma Burgess’s blog. just google her name
So About What I Said (www.melissablakeblog.com) is one of my favorites. But I’m right there with you on obsessively checking for new posts here. Sometimes I am even checking for more comments like, Ladies, you’re not typing fast enough! I’m a graphic designer and I like to read things on the internet while I’m working… I’m sure my boss would not buy it but it really helps me work. Like if I’m working on something and it’s frustrating I give my brain a little break and come back to it.
thanks for the tips. =)
Love all of Mari’s work and this one made me laugh out loud. Fashion magazine (or the boatloads of catalogs that arrive in the mail) in the bathtub, so true!
I often wonder if Mari does rough drafts or if she comes out with these pitch perfect observations on her first go. Holy smokes. She’s a national treasure.

Or some variation thereof, whatever.
She’s so creative, observant and always right on point! I look forward to this series every Friday. Thank you for sharing.
Mari’s work is always spot on. Each time I view her artwork it somehow touches the most vulnerable parts of my soul. It is like she is unveiling truths within me that I did not even know existed.
“To pretend I’m in a music video.” ? I knew I couldn’t be the only one.
lollll came here to say the same
This is so accurate!!
