Do you have certain clothes you just love? A couple years ago, I shared a list of clothes I’d worn eight million times. And it’s funny, because I’m STILL constantly wearing them — the glasses, the red shirt, the pajamas, everything. They’re just such great uniform pieces! Since then, I’ve added a few more workhorses to my closet. Here are five, if you’d like to see…
Summer dress. Now that I’m older, I’ve realized the value of well-made pieces that will last for years, even if they’re a little pricier. Ace & Jig, the brand run by two friends, has the nicest dresses that move with your body and are tough enough to withstand sticky toddler hands, ocean water, and whatever else you might come across. I have — and love — this cheery number. (Similar here.)
White blouse. File this under “The Perfect Travel Shirt.” White shirts make eyes look brighter, skin look rosier and a whole outfit look pulled together. But while regular cotton shirts always wrinkle, this gauze blouse is soft, airy and supposed to be a little crinkled, in that drinking-negronis-on-the-Amalfi-coast-while-the-sun-sets kind of way. Shove it in your suitcase, and you’re on your way.
Woven sandals. I’ve mentioned these huaraches before, but I cannot say enough good things! They’re so comfortable (I’ve walked miles and miles around New York City in them) and go with everything, from shorts to dresses. I end up slipping them on pretty much every day.
City anorak. I’m actually wearing this as I type this very post! Maybe it’s my British side talking, but putting on a water-resistant jacket always makes me feel like I’m heading out on a fun adventure. This Everlane version has a relaxed silhouette and lightweight fabric you can wear year round. It comes in three pretty colors, but I went for the black.
Cotton jeans. Fashion editors are swearing by 100% cotton jeans this year, but, although they look great, they can feel stiff. Enter: this magical pair. The high-waist makes you look cute from behind; the fabric is still soft and comfy; and they work well with both heels and flats. Plus, honestly, I just feel cool in them. :)
What do you always find yourself reaching for? Anything you’re wearing non-stop right now? I’d love to hear…
P.S. Pretty swimsuits, and gold necklaces.
