Have Your Kids Ever Shared a Bed?

I have a 9 year old son and 6 year old daughter… I am an only child and my husband is the eldest of 3. The only way we could finally… this year get them out of our king bed was put them in the guest room -king bed upstairs. I turned this into my daughters room and I tried putting them to bed separately but they want to be in her bed… together. But they are about to be 10 and 7 and they are very close and fight but love each other more – I put a pillow in between them. Which they like so they have their own space :) I’ve asked my son if he wanted to sleep in his own room now and he said maybe when I turn 10… she turns 7 first and then a few weeks later it’s his birthday :) But he said we are fine. We like to be together and her bed is more comfy… I know asking a child what they want is probably odd to some but I think it is important for them to make decisions too and together. They are happy and sleep better, and we do too! They are so close, it is like they are twins but born 3 years apart! I am an only child, they have a bond I will never understand… so I will let them be, for now!

I don’t have children, but I have shared a bed with my little sister until I went off to college! We grew up in a 900 sq. ft. townhome my parents still live in and I never ever felt like the space was too small for us. Sharing a room and bed with my sister growing up kept us close (no personal space!) and I so cherish it when I look back on it now.

My girls will not sleep together (unless they both climb in bed with me ?), but growing up I loved sharing a bed with my sister. Even with twin beds, I would climb into hers almost every night.

My kiddos are still little (almost 3 years, and the youngest is 6 months), so no bed sharing for them yet. But my sister and I shared a full size bed for many years – my earliest memories are of sharing a bed with her (I was likely around age 3), until I was 7 or so? (She’s 18 months older than me)

My sisters and I are all in our twenties, and though we live in different places, (two different states, one different country) when we’re together we still often sleep in the same bed. Since we were little we’ve called them “sleepovers” because we all had our own rooms. Sometimes it’s just more fun to snuggle up to your sisterfriend.

Made me laugh out loud, and then cry. They are just so cute together. I slept in my sister’s bed for at least 10 years (I was not allowed to, but every night I sneaked out of my bedroom to join her) and this is the best memories of my childhood. We talked for hours and it surely helped create that special bond that we still have.

My sister and I shared a bed until the forth grade when we each got separate rooms… then we crawled into one another’s beds every night anyway.

My 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son have shared a bed for the last 2 years and they love it.

So sweet! My sister is two years older. When we moved to a different city and a bigger house, my parents gave us the top floor. We were six and eight years old and didn’t even want a wall between our rooms. So we decided to sleep in one room and play in the other room. We did that for years, but eventually we asked for the wall ourselves. And even after that wall I used to take my mattress and put it next to my sister’s bed when my parents went out and we had a babysitter. Two years apart does mean a lot when you grow older, so that wall became very necessary when we were older. We are now 30 and 32, living in different countries but still very much enjoy sleepovers, haha!

Although my older sister and I had separate bedrooms I always ended up sitting at the foot of her bed almost nightly for important teenager chats (“I’ll never get a boyfriend!”). I’d stay there until I couldn’t stay awake any longer or until we’d get yelled at to go to sleep. :)

could you do a bunk bed with a full on the bottom? that way they have options

We adopted our twin girls when they were just 13 days old. We had them share a crib when they were tiny. We had read different opinions on this method with twins but we felt it was right. They had been together since conception and having their twin next to them would be comforting, especially since they experienced the separation from their birth mother. When they outgrew the swaddle, we separated them into different cribs, although placed them next to each other. This stayed the same when we converted their cribs to toddler beds. I then decided to get 2 full size beds for their bedroom instead of twin beds. I thought that would give them enough room if they wanted to share a bed as they grow or they could have their own beds. They’re now 5 and they mostly sleep together, however they go through periods when they want to sleep on their own. I love how close they are, but also have their own independence too.

The sleeping positions are hilariously adorbable. I shared a room with two twin beds with my older sister from who knows when? Age 3 when our next sister was born? Then when we moved at age 9 my older sister and I shared a double bed until she went off to college. It was both comforting and annoying to be so closely connected with another human being. She would talk loudly into the night on the phone with her friends while I needed absolute quiet and darkness to sleep. But we have the closest bond and friendship I could ever ask for. It was also comical when our friends would come over and they would have no problem joining us in our every day slumber party. I have great teenage memories of a bunch of us going to sleep and waking up together in friendship bliss.

I have 1.5 year old and a 3.5 year old, little dudes. Has anyone started bed sharing at this young of an age? Right now the youngest is in a crib, and oldest in a toddler bed, in separate rooms. I’m thinking of trying the bed sharing out this weekend. Moving the youngest into the toddler bed once everyone has fallen asleep. Want to give it a shot for the cuteness and closeness factor, but also, maybe they’ll sleep in a bit more if in bed together? Right now they both get up around 5am. If it works, I’d purchase a full size bed for my toddlers room and start the bed sharing.

My two boys share a bed! We transitioned our toddler right into a full bed and it worked out great! Those picks look a lot like how my boys look on any given night!

Oh my gosh, this just made my morning. So sweet! My kids are too young to share a bed at the moment, but I hope they do. I am one of five and didn’t share a bed ever, but we would have sleep overs in each others rooms and sleep in the spare beds in them (we only had spare beds as the older ones moved out and went to college). It is still some of my favorite memories from childhood. So I hope my kids get to experience something similar.

So sweet and ephemeral. I wish we could bottle childhood.

My daughter (5) and son (2) have twin over full bunk beds. 90% of the time they sleep in the bottom bunk together.

Our 2 yr old boy has started sleeping with his 5 yr old brother intermittently over the past 4 months. He desperately wants to sleep with him every night but sometimes the 5 yr old says. “Mum I just want to sleep by myself tonight” & sometimes he’s super keen to have his little brother in bed with him. We take heaps of photos too when they are asleep all over each other. It’s so beautiful & peaceful, as most days are full of tears & fighting.

I shared a bed with my sister until I was ten :) It worked great because her side where always warmer than mine, and I could sneak in my feet to steal a little warmth! Our younger brother had his own room, but normally would sneak in to sleep at det top of our “family bed”. You know, one with “two floors”, a big bed under, a ladder up, and a 90 cm bed on top :)

I am two years older than my sister btw, and our brother are three years younger than her :) Lots of love from Norway!

I have friends who have bunk beds and the bottom bunk is a full. That might be the best bet. Then they can sleep together but if one kiddo wants his space, he can move to the top bunk. And my kids definitely have gone through a phase sleeping together… but then we all ended up with lice and that phase ended!
