Cornwall with Kids

As I mentioned, we just got back from Cornwall, England, where we were visiting my grandmother and a dozen other relatives. We spent the week eating our weight in salt-and-vinegar chips, walking on cliffs and flipping out over my niece’s adorable accent. Here are a few photos, if you’d like to see…

The view from our rental house. (Some relatives stayed with my grandmother, but the families with kids stayed here so she could have some peace and quiet!)

From my grandmother’s tiny town of Polruan, you can take an orange ferry across the harbor to the slightly-larger-but-still-tiny town of Fowey. There’s a small pool next to the ocean, and when the tide isn’t too high, kids can splash around. I remember doing it when I was six years old!

This baby food made me laugh. English food gets a bad rap, but I think it’s delicious. Jacket potatoes, fish and chips, sausages and mushy peas… We went to the local pub for lunches (and pints of beer) almost every day and it was so good.

During our trip, Anton turned three! (Here’s his birth photo — he still has that lovely, slightly mischievous demeanor:) We had an enormous cake, which took all 20 of us the whole week to finish.

Meanwhile, Toby and his cousin Bo fell in love with each other on the trip and decided to get married.

Here’s a video where they plan their life together. (How cute is her accent?)

One afternoon, we went to Lantic Bay, the beach near my grandmother’s house. To get there, you walk along a winding cliff path, then hike down zig-zagging paths to the rocky beach. It’s really beautiful, and my aunt actually ran into the freezing water to swim… and then ran right back out :)

Here’s Anton running on the cliffs.

By the end of the trip, we were all exhausted but glowing. We miss you already, Cornwall. xoxo

P.S. Our past three England trips — Toby and Anton look so little!
