What’s Your Personality Type?

If you’re up for a distraction today, here’s something fun:

First off, have you taken the Myers-Briggs personality test? (Here’s mini version online, if you’d like to.) The results can be so spot-on, it’s uncanny. I’m an ENFJ personality, which basically means I’m chatty and bad at spending time alone, and Alex is an INFP, meaning he’s a deep thinker who can get lost in thought.

Well, this post about the definition of hell for each personality type made me laugh out loud. Is yours true? (Mine would actually be: “You are stuck in a room by yourself for the rest of eternity.”) And as long as we’re going down a rabbit hole, these quick descriptions of each personality are fascinating, and here’s what each personality type does at a party.

Oh, also, as we age, our Type mellows and moves a smidgen toward the opposite direction. So, as some people have commented, we do drift away from our ‘true’ type from when we are @21.

I’m accredited to conduct these ‘tests’ (it’s actually an indicator as opposed to a test per se) and my best friend and I are both ENFJ.

I used it in a range of settings as a consultant, including a team development workshop, after one-on-one analysis, with a team that investigates workplace deaths. It blew my mind how much it improved this team’s work collaboration and confidence, once they knew their individual strengths and weaknesses. It. Works!

Now retired, I use it with youth making university choices and … no-brainer … it works there, too! Often the dad that is trying to force their kid into a career the same or similar to their own discovers the kid is completely different to them and would hate and be lousy at it as a career! Hahaha… go figure! (This happened very recently, with the dad wanting tge saughter to be an engineer, while she is very well suited to psychology as an ENFJ).

Huh, I came out as an ENFJ. When I first took this test about 20 years ago (and for the maybe 8 years after that) when I was in my 20s, I was a solid ENFP. During my 30s, I started testing as a J, back in the era I was with my now-ex. (My theory: he was a stronger P and someone had to organize life stuff, so it pushed me to embrace my J side.) I hadn’t taken the test in a long time, and if I was going to be more towards I. (I think I’m a bit in between E and I because I get energy both from other people and from being alone.) Since March, I’ve realized just how comfortable and content I am being almost-alone with only my boyfriend, so I’m honestly a little surprised to see I’m still an E. In the past, I have found myself counseling numerous seat-neighbors on cross-Atlantic flights, so I can related to the INFJ counseling people in the bathroom at a party scenario. I can also relate to ENFJ scanning parties for people that look lonely and going to talk with them and help them and introducing them to a couple of people. :)

I’m also ENFJ. Over the years, I have taken the test, always forget the result, retake the test, and immediately nod when I get ENFJ. Never fails. It’s spot on.

It’s weird – I have changed my personality type. When I first graduated college, we took the MB test at work – I was an INFJ. Now, many years later, I am an ENFJ. I think I just have become more comfortable in social situations.

Wow! We have the same personality type. I don’t meet other ENFJs that often. My workplace is packed with ENTJs, which is definitely a noticeable difference…

The Myers-Briggs test has always been a funny thing for me. I remember taking it at both the beginning and end of my freshman year in college and being called in by my counsellor to discuss why my results had changed, ha. It’s been many years since then and I’ve been a pretty consistent INFJ, but thankfully I’ve never had to counsel any drunk girls.

This type of thing is why I hate these types of tests: imagine the ignorance of professional educator who has no knowledge of personality growth. So yeah let’s all embrace AI and allow anti-social programmers to shape our life experience…

Joanna, the link to each personality type’s idea of hell was hilarious! I’m an INFJ and mine was “You are eternally damned to working for a morally corrupt company that aims to exploit the weak and generally degrade conditions for all of society.” Uncannily spot on. Made me laugh. Thanks.

Just recently I’ve been studying Myers-Briggs and then the Enneagram personality types, and as I flipped to your blog this morning, I wondered what Myers-Briggs type you. Et voila! ENFP.

I’m an INTP and Enneagram 5 (thinker) with a 4 (artist) wing.

These tests are very helpful in romantic relationships – especially marriage – and the workplace. They are even helpful in sensibly navigating and/or understanding interactions of all kinds, I’ve found.

I love this test! I’ve taken it a few times at drastically different stages of my life and always get the same results – INFP. It’s sort of a comfort to think there are essential truths about ourselves that are unmoving even as our external circumstances change so much. Thanks for sharing!

This stuff is the best!!! Im ESFJ, and it’s so dead on. What I’d do at a party apparently is tell everyone’s secrets – burst out laughing and emailed that to a few friends who know their secrets aren’t safe with me!!

I love a good personality test. They are always entertaining. I was a RA in college and as part of training the entire staff took a personality test called “True Colors.” The personalities were orange (the doers), blue (the feelers), gold (the organizers), and green (the thinkers). I’m a gold/green. Years later and my RA friends and I still use our colors to talk about each other and explain our personalities.

INFJ…which is strange, because all of my friends would say I’m an extrovert, and I flirt with the cashiers…but I’ve always felt a bit of both. I like talking to people…but i like being able to leave & be on my own for a while too. I am definitely a ‘feeler’ though. And I don’t know if I “counsel” drunk girls in the bathroom, but….I do talk to them for a while :)

I got ENFJ too! Though, Joanna, the hell that you listed is for ESFP.

The hell for ENFJ (Your loved ones are in dire need of guidance but every piece of advice you gives them inadvertently makes things worse for them.) is SOOOOO much worse for me than the thought of being in a room alone with no one else.

Just copying/pasting that sentence stresses me out!!

So I took it, got ISFJ, started to read the description, and thought, “Wow… this is my mother.” So I sent it to her, and sure enough. We are the same! I think I’m going to send it to my dad and my boyfriend and see what they get. I’m so fascinated by this stuff.

Whoops! I just saw Alex is an INFP. I’m way too into seeing couple’s Myers-Briggs personalities. I know a ton of couples with one introvert and one extrovert, but not many with two in the same like mine. So interesting to me.

That article made me chuckle. It had to have been written by an INTJ.

The criteria it requires is “scientific proof” and control groups and such. Left-brain bias revealed there. I have read that INTJ’s are the type that least likes to be labeled at a type.

For the record, I think the author misses the point and is entirely myopic. Take the article with a huge grain of salt and decide for yourself what you think.

My best friend is an ENFJ, too! I literally laughed out loud because that description of hell was TOO accurate for her. Funnily, I’m an INFJ and I found all the categories for INFJs listed to be true, especially:

INFJ – Reluctantly holds a counseling session in the bathroom with some drunk girl they don’t know.

THIS HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME. My boyfriend is an INTJ. I wonder what Alex is!

INFJ here as well… I think this is the most of us I’ve ever seen in any group. The description of hell and what I would do at a party are 100% accurate, at least in my case.
