This weekend, we threw an early birthday party for Toby, who turns five in a few days. It was such a sweet afternoon. Here are a few photos, if you’d like to see…
As always, we had a picnic in a waterfront meadow in downtown Manhattan, the same place where we had Toby’s parties when he turned one, two, three and four. (Be still, my heart!)
We brought along a few things for the kids to play with, as always — like, a parachute, a frisbee and bubbles. My friend Michelle also brought this super soaker, which was the instant hit of the party.
Anton is a funny bird because he’s so brave and daring physically but so nervous and shy around people. He took a while to warm up and definitely stayed close (and mostly clung) to my leg at first.
But a few snacks and juice boxes later, he hit his stride. (Side note: Thighs!)
After everyone ran around and played for a while…
We brought out the donut cake, Toby’s favorite.
He looked so sweet and proud as we sang “Happy Birthday”…
And once the candles were blown out…
Everyone dove in!
Oscar did his patented “donut sandwich” move, as he has for the past three years, so sweet! (Update: While wistfully looking over these photos for the millionth time, I just noticed that in the background I think Toby is telling somehow how old he is now. FIVE!)
And Antoni tucked right in.
Finally, at the end of the afternoon, we tried to take a family photo, but we were squirted with a water pistol at the last second, ha! It was such a lovely afternoon celebrating this little treasure. Five years, I can’t believe it. Thanks so much for reading. xoxo
P.S. Toby’s birth story five years ago.
(Huge thanks to our lovely friend Nicki Sebastian for the photos)
