  20. My boyfriend got me those boots for Christmas last year! So easy to wear them with any outfit

  21. Thanks for the links! I especially love the laws of parenting link for Parenting. Illustrated with crappy pictures blog! A million thanks! Sometimes, we feel so alone as mothers… in our own little world, our own microcosms. I’ll be laughing for days now!

Toby seems to sleep anywhere. How does he do it? Lucky baby and lucky mom! Sleep would be an interesting Monday topic.

  24. I want that hat!!!!

  25. Love these! Enjoy your weekend!! xo

  26. I have that same hat but in brown and turquoise. It’s great for folding up to pack in a purse. It’s still in many on-the-ground shops. People, please don’t purchase from Amazon if you can help it.

  27. I just stumbled on your blog today ~ it’s lovely. I love the link for my crush and will pass it on :)

Hooray for a week of relationships and love! Incidentally it is MY two year anniversary this weekend!!

  30. Excited for next week’s posts on relationships. Being in a long-distance relationship myself, I’m curious to see what sorts of issues/stories you will feature.

  31. Congratulations, Joanna!
Looking forward to your posts next week. Oh, and I plan to make a pizza from scratch! So, excited!

  32. thanks for all these really sweet comments! here’s where the sunhat is from for those who asked, it was a present from alex for our honeymoon!

  33. Alex’s article was wonderful! And I love the photo of you and Toby!

  34. Love the article by Alex! I just quit my job (last day of work was yesterday!) to move to Los Angeles to pursue my dreams of being a writer, living in SoCal, and not sitting at a desk all day. Scary but exciting!

  35. That’s an amazing picture of you guys! I thought it was a stock photo at first, it’s so perfect.

  36. Thanks for the links. I always love to see where you are sending us…
Love the picture, as well. Did you already tell us where that hat is from? I’d love to know. I’ve grown a bit tired of the one I’ve worn every day this summer and last.
Thanks for all that you do!!

  37. I LOVE your weekend posts. Those pictures of relatives are astounding…and somewhat frightening! Have a lovely weekend!

  38. Have a good weekend !!

  39. Good lord, I can’t believe how long my comment turned out to be! Very very sorry about that.

  40. One: That photo of you and Toby is extraordinarily beautiful.

Two: Alex’s article is right on. After teaching art for several years, I got the push of encouragement from my husband to go full time with my jewelry business… which has, these days, turned into mostly bridal accessories and whatnot. And, I’ll tell you something, it is not an easy task to run your own business successfully. Whenever I hear people say that they want to start their own business because they want more flexibility and more free time, I have to cringe just a bit. But I always always encourage them and I’ll tell you why… I work non-stop and use up every inch of my work ethic on a daily basis, BUT designing and constructing things out of wonderful materials (in between the bulk of the more business oriented tasks), connecting with customers and being able to expand my business in the way it has, makes it all totally worth it. No kidding. Doubly full time or not, it’s worth it. The one thing my husband (also a small business owner)said to me at one of my lowest points has stuck with me. It’s this: The difference between those who succeed and those who fail is that those who succeed just never quit. So I don’t quit and I’m sure glad I didn’t. (And that’s my story. Thanks to Alex for writing another great article.)
    and then…
Three: Those split photos of relatives are fascinating! I feel like I just want to repeatedly go back and dissect every detail of their face comparisons. So darn neat.
Have a fun weekend. Thank you for another week of lovely posts.

  41. Love the photo!!!!! It´s gorgeous Joanna!!! And both of you in style!

  42. Wow… I love that comment, too! It’s so soothing to my hyperactive nerves. I don’t know where we… as women… got the idea that we must have it all. Talk about pressure! Makes being a man look so easy!

  43. I cant believe your 2 year anniversary is already coming up! I feel like it was just yesterday that I was anxiously awaiting all of the wedding recap posts. :)

  44. Can’t wait for all the lovey dovey posts! :)

  45. I love the boots – that is definitely a fall purchase for me. and I actually love the hat you’re wearing in the pic. So cute!

  46. Those boots are adorable! Have a great weekend :)

  47. Oh how I love the picture of you and Toby. What a treasure that will be for years to come. I can feel your bliss! Thanks for sharing.

  48. Love Emma Thompson! And I have no kids but those laws of parenting had me laughing out loud hehe

This weekend I’ll be working at the quilt shop then spending time with the hubs in the evenings. Nothing special, just time together :)

  49. These are, hands down, your best links ever. Equal parts funny, eye-opening, and pretty. Happy weekend! xx

  50. Happy second anniversary! The first day I visited your blog was the day you & Alex got engaged…time flies.

That photo of you & Toby is one of the sweetest shots I have ever seen. Fab hat, too!

  51. such a sweet photo, joanna. looking forward to next week’s posts.

  52. Wonderful article by Alex! I’ve been daydreaming myself lately about quitting my job to start my own company which has always been my dream. This makes me realize the less-glamorous side of that decision :-/

  53. ^ *My* boyfriend

P.S. I remember you getting married on my birthday a couple years ago. So happy anniversary to you! I’m ringing in 30 on August 29th. Eeek! Tell me that turning 30 is not as dreadful as I’ve been conditioned to think it is…..right?!

  54. By boyfriend just sent me Alex’s article to read. I actually didn’t make the connection! How funny. I really enjoyed it, by the way. Much food for thought, especially for those of us in the middle of a major career conundrum.

  55. L says...

What a sweet photo. Can’t wait to read next week posts.

  56. Go for lobster! You won’t regret it! I went to Luke’s Lobster downtown a couple of weeks ago…absolutely delicious! You reminded me to post about it on my blog today.

I enjoyed Alex’s article. Lots of food for thought.

And cute pic of you and Toby!

  57. Jo, you always make me happy… I hope to have a nice weekend, only something is eating at me:

I feel like I need to do whatever I can to encourage bloggers to raise attention to Somalia. Over 3 million people are expected to die in the next weeks if they don’t start receiving aid. I know that it’s not topical to your blog but I know you have an immense following and you could help greatly by having a link to the Red Cross or UN or whatever organization you prefer. Just a suggestion… have a great weekend!

  58. I’m sending that to my crush. (but in German, because, ya know, he only speaks German. ;) Love it.

  59. Really enjoyed reading those NY Times articles – and I forwarded the one about finding plan C to a friend who works his a** off to maintain his dream! Have a great weekend!

  60. I read that article earlier in the week and had no idea it was Alex! It was fantastic.

  61. Such a precious photo!! Lobster rolls sound delicious!! Have a wonderful weekend! We are are taking our first family plane ride tomorrow with our one year old. SCARED. I had a friend tell me you have a whole section on traveling with I am off to find it!

  62. Hi Joanna, I love your blog and read it daily although it’s my first time commenting, so hello! I wanted to thank you for posting the link to Alex’s great article! I really enjoyed reading it as someone who is often thinking about Plan B. :) Have a great weekend!

  63. Friday post are my favorite! Love the parenting post was sooooo funny and true!

  64. Love Alex’s article on quitting your job. Im a lawyer currently (just like the article) and really want to switch over to Plan C!

    Great link roundup! Thanks! :)

    Have a lovely weekend!!

    Look who’s Wearing (LwW)

  65. The family panorama link didn’t work for me. :(

Love Fridays for these posts. :D

    Happy weekend!!

  66. I love your friday posts! AND, too funny: I was just walked up from my house in Santa Monica to get a cup of coffee and was asked by a woman where a good pizza place was. Although I am very familiar with the area I couldn’t think of one place so I looked it up on my phone’s google map for her and there wasn’t one nearby. I should have told to her to go to Manhattan. :)

  67. Love Alex’s article!…and the message to your crush. So sent it to my husband! Have a great weekend!

  68. What a beautiful picture! I wish my weekend were going to be as serene as that moment. My dad and stepmom are coming for a long-awaited (on all sides) visit, and we’re having far too many people over for a cookout tomorrow night.

  69. Great article by Alex and thanks so much for the heads up. Very very timely for me (making a huge decision today…) keep fingers crossed :)

  70. What a fun quote from Emma Thompson! I used to have the biggest girlcrush on her after I read “The Sense & Sensibility Screenplay and Diaries.” Have to thank you for the tipoff on the Jenna Lyons piece; she mentions Egon Schiele in it and I’m writing my master’s thesis on him.

AND…tomorrow I plan to check out PUBLIC Bikes’ end-of-summer warehouse sale (after seeing your blog post on your new bike, I went and checked out the site and realized it was pretty much everything I didn’t know I wanted; plus several friends and coworkers have and *love* their PUBLIC bikes) and eating well at the SF Street Food Festival.

  71. OMG, sooooooooooooooooooo funny the laws of parenting!!! And so true!

  72. Hope you have a great weekend, and I can’t wait for next week’s posts!

  73. Beautiful photo! Looking forward to next week’s posts! Going through a break-up now, so I could use some chicken soup for the soul…

  74. What a sweet picture of you & Toby!
We will enjoy an easy-going weekend to realx a bit after the weddingweekend last week.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend too!

  75. I had a lobster roll at Pearl Oyster Bar this summer with my two daughters. It was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! Blythe Danner was there, too, which was nice as I went on a recommendation from Gwyneth on GOOP.
What a treasure that picture is for you. I miss my kids being babies…on occasion!

  76. Anonymous says...

Crazy to find out that my favorite NY Times writer and my favorite blogger are married! Very cool.

  77. Just finished the article by Alex. It was both fascinating and (despite the struggles of plan B) inspiring! Thank you for sharing.

  78. That picture is priceless as was the moment I’m sure :)
The link to the shirt a French girl would love isn’t working – I would love to know what it was as I love all things French!!
    Have a great weekend!

  79. Oh, I love that ASOS blouse! Have you seen the Mad Men collection at Banana Republic? They have a pussybow blouse that looks like Joan Holloway forgot it at the dry cleaners.

And I did send that tumblr link to my boyfriend, thanks for the cute link.

  80. Great round-up, as always! I’m so glad you included Crappy Pictures! I thought you would get a kick out of that post. Have a happy weekend! xo.

  81. We have a beach day planned tomorrow. Just Chillax! Kids go back to school after Labor Day, so our free weekends are numbered. After that, the soccer rush begins!

Precious photo of you and your son.

  82. Oh, that picture of you and Toby is adorable! How sweet!
