Weird news: This fall, APC will launch a line of pre-worn Butler jeans. Not just faded or ripped, but jeans that are actually worn by someone before you buy them. The jeans even feature the initials of the person on the inside. Who are these odd wearers and what are they doing in the jeans? The gimmick is amusing but seems a little over the top. What do you think?
Broken-in jeans are nice when you break them in yourself because everyone has a different body shape, and if someone has a bigger but than you, then the jeans will be loose on your booty. You get what I’m saying.

You know you can get those at Goodwill for around $5.
Pre-worn at pre-worn prices not botique ones.
i was just joking with a friend the other day about this exact idea. i mean, it’s a bit sad that someone would outsource wearing clothing… isn’t the whole point of apc denim to make them your own?
Wow usually you can go to Sal Army or goodwill and get a pair for like 10/bucks… I’d be more than happy to put my name on them… LOL
I have to side with vintage/not vintage lady at the top.
I’m not turned off. I wash my new clothes before I wear them anyway.
This cracks me up. I knew there would come a day when people would be willing to pay for someone else to break in their jeans for them. What is especially funny is the idea that the wearer’s initials adds some sense of provenance.
OK, I have to admit I have been guilty of wanting to rip the jeans right off of someone- you know when their just right- perfectly worn…….yup so guilty of wanting to check these out!
thats kind of gross.
i’m a sucker for anything A.P.C.
Not sure I like this idea! Would rather wear my jeans out myself.
I also used to buy pre-worn Levis in the 90’s – we LOVED them – super comfy and worn in already….. though I do have a feeling that those 90’s Levis were ex-prison issue! eeek!
I’m not too bothered – I buy jeans from the op shop all the time. And I bet my jeans are loads cheaper too!
Leah xxx
I’ve got a good one for you. A friend of mine is an avid second hand shop, straight-as-a-pin type of gal, if you know what I mean. One day last year she came home with the perfect worn jeans…but, to her surprise she found a lumpy piece of tinfoil in the left pocket. It was a chunk of hash!
hmm. i think i would just go to my local salvation army/goodwill/buffalo exchange for a pair of good jeans.
i actually found an awesome pair of levis for 4 dollars, and siegerson morrison flats for about 8 dollars.
salvation army wins!
unless butler jeans are so perfect and indestructible, i don’t think i would consider. props to them for an interesting concept though :)
yep pretty weird..
hmm, perhpas the concept is more interesting than the practice. I don’t like the idea of actually wearing pre-worn jeans. My jeans are mine and mine only :)
Gross, and i bet they’re charging a fortune for someone’s old jeans.
definitely odd!
I think these would sell if they attached pictures of the wearer on each pair of jeans. This would only work if they used hot, I mean HOT models. Then people would pay designer jean price to be in jeans worn by them. Otherwise it would be gross to imagine someone else’s (maybe someone unattractive) skin flakes in your jeans. I picture the close up photos of dust mites devouring dead skin in a case like this. EEEEWWW
yeah, I’m thinking they need to give a bio of the person who wore the jeans on the tag so you can decide!
i would like to apply for being a pre-wearer for other clothes. what do i need to qualify?
if these are authentically vintage, that’s cool, but it doesn’t seem like it right? it seems like they are making new jeans and then having someone wear them and then selling them as new vintage? color me confused!
I wonder how much they’d pay me for my extremely worn APC jeans that don’t fit anymore?? How does one become a supplier? Can I use a false name? What if my jeans aren’t worn in in an aesthetically pleasing enough manner – too worn in/washed too many times? Do they have a camp where they keep the wearers to make sure they only wear them in in a certain way? It’s complicated…
Kind of weird. Is it cheaper to buy the preworn ones. This if some chic started her you know what it those. It could be kinda of gross.
i think it’s just an expensive way to wear thrift store clothing and i’d be much more inclined to hit up Wasteland or simply browse on ebay!
I think they are second hand! Which is fine but …… this whole conversation in your comments is funny. I love what some people have said! ; )
Curious…I probably wouldn’t buy them myself but I am really interested in knowing who exactly is pre-wearing them?! Did they put an ad on Craigslist for jean wearers or something… And I don’t really see that it’s true recycling as it seems that they’re making a new pair of jeans, presumably paying someone to wear them around for a while and then selling them at what I would guess are still pretty high prices… Yeah, too gimmicky for me!
will folks start requesting the person who wore out their jeans to just the *right* shape for them? Life is so weird sometimes!
I mean, you should get them for less if someone else wore them already :) But I used to buy used Levi’s by the dozens in the 90’s
We have too much money in this society if we’re purchasing used jeans at large prices.
Gross.
futurelint, that is so fascinating!
this isn’t a new thing…the gap used to do this in the mid/late nineties. my first pair of jeans was an already worn pair.
a liitle odd, i think. i like the premise of the idea, but still…might as well dig around the goodwill. but then, on the other hand, i would love to be the person wearing around the jeans and putting my initials in them BEFORE anyone else wore them.
does anyone else remember when it was a big trend in Japan to buy Levi’s that were worn by actual cowboys? There was some company over there that would give all these jeans to ranchers to wear while, I don’t know roping and branding cattle and other such cowboyish things. Then the ranchers would send them back to Japan all dirty and worn and they would charge HUNDREDS of dollars for Levi’s worn by actual American cowboys.
i definetly wouldnt pay a “new” price for “used” jeans. and i would need more than someones initials to peak my interest. they should put a poem on the inside, or a riddle that leads you somewhere. that would be enticing. otherwise, i can find those at the thrift store.
pretentious and still uninteresting.
i’m all for recycling, but jeans are too personal. couldn’t do it.
p.s. the wedding photos are fab!
I’d have to agree with Courteney; it seems little different than those who love to thrift jeans because they are already broken in.
I wonder how the cost varies between the pre worn and new jeans? Are the wearers being paid by the hour to break them in? Seems like a pleasant job to me! And are they new jeans or are the jeans being repurposed by the company? Provocative idea, to say the least…
I think it is a bit odd. What are they doing in these jeans? Makes me want to know what sort of life the jeans and lived. Were they farm raised? Organic? Were they treated kindly? :)
I love the idea that a huge, respected brand is selling pre-worn clothing. From an environmental standpoint it is fantastic.I just hope they are washing them first and also not charging an arm and a leg.
pre- worn is a fancy way to say used. like used cars are now previously owned cars. the concept is unique but i’m not sure it’s for me.
personally, i think it’s only good when you have worn them out yourself. you have a pair for years and remember where each scuff and scratch came from. that’s what makes jeans so great. interesting gimmick, though. :)
well it’s not really any different than buying vintage, but these aren’t vintage. just pre-worn?? That’s a bit odd to me. Probably wouldn’t shell out the dough just because someone’s bum was in those jeans before me.
