Pop quiz! By the lovely Grace Farris.
P.S. Summer momsters and summer pleasures.
I’ve been influenced by BIG LINEN and will be wearing my cool flowy pieces all summer.
Haha I’ve always said I look forward to my Judi Dench era! I don’t feel quite ready for it (too busy to deal with flowy linen flapping around me), but I can feel it coming.
What with the sardine trend? Never heard of it in France. Are sardines… cute? I think it’s weird. But, ok I like weird. It will be spf for me anyway… love from Paris
I refer to my summer style as slutty 70s hippie. Lots of short shorts, crochet in every imaginable form, halter tops all worn with cool-girl sneakers and nice leather sandals so I still look like a grown up.
I just got back from a week on a Med cruise with stops in Nice and Monaco. Sardines were everywhere! Also jeans shorts and long white skirts too. Of course, all things Formula 1 were seen in Monaco.
I need to find a sardines X SPF shirt. I wear this hat year round except for beach/water activities – somehow goes with everything and collects feathers and flowers from walks and trips

j’adore la marinere. on another note up, until recently years everyone, used to dog on me hard for eating sardines and now they are all trendy and more expensive and I need to move on to something weirder until this craze dies down.
well i bought some tinned krill meat at the grocery outlet and let me just say i do not recommend it. my husband enjoyed feeling like a while for like .5 seconds and then he was like yeah no it’s gross. kippers are good maybe give those a try
This year I aspire to be “on a tropical fly away vacation for the 1st time in 6 years but trying to look oh so casually like I live here, and dress like this all the time and no, I do not need directions but thanks”. It’s some kind of balance between some floral skirts, tanks, flip flops, 1 garish sundress, and also useful, purposefully worn out linen gardening pants with a kind of ratty t shirt and sturdy shoes for walking up and down volcanoes. COVERED in sunscreen!
I just bought a Knicks-adjacent ZOHRAN tee at the greenmarket, so I guess I’m a born-again sportsball fan for a bit? I’m alternating it with a WHAT WOULD HERZOG DO? tee, just to keep things confusing.
Preppy Beach fashion
The beautiful game! Come on Scotland!
I just bought a dress based on la marinière that I love!!
(and I am not a dress person ;))

Awww, I thought this was going to be a dress COVERED IN starfish.
Beautiful Game, but for baseball. (Well, until June 10, in which case I will add my Korea team t-shirt to the rotation.)
Hahaha! SPF 1 million. That’s me.
Being French, la marinière does not sounds super exotic aha! Also discovering this whole sardine thing – did I missed it last summer due to my postpartum sleep deprivation? Trying to spot sardine looks is going on my todo summer list !
SPF 1000! Skin cancer runs in our family and my dad generously paid us to stay pale. A summer with NO burns was $100.
omg is there actually a dress covered in sardines?? I want!
I bought myself an extra large girl’s size tee from J.Crew that is sardine perfection. White with just the right blue and a few sequins!
The last few years have been SPF 100. I’m in my SPF, moisture-wicking clothing and big ‘ol hat (and still likely in the shade).
But this year, volumuous loose clothes in natural fibers are calling to me. Oversized cotten dresses and so, so much linen. I tried on a linen jumpsuit that my teenage daughter described as “spectacularly unflatteringly… like… wow… do NOT buy that.” and I still considered buying it! lol
I aspire to be a sardine lady
Love a mini dress! Love a simple tank top and jean shorts moment. A simple girl for sure
For years i’ve been an SPF 1 million gal, I don’t leave the house without a long sleeve button up or a hat during the summer, but I am wondering if I need more vitamin d and maybe a little sun is okay? I take a vitamin d supplement and my levels are okay, but still I feel like I need a touch more sunlight on my skin.
SPF one million folks- what are your go-to hats? I aspire to that level of sun protection but have yet to find a hat that is both protective and stylish!
My two favorite hats for summer are from Costco and I wear them all the time. I think they’re the same brand – the one linked below has a gardening vibe, the other one I couldn’t find online but has more of a relaxed panama hat vibe:

In the fall & winter I wear this wool fedora from Brixton:

Though it is probably presumptive to think that I have selected “stylish” anything, lol
@Julia – It’s such a conundrum! I wear a Petite Marseille sun hat by Wallaroo paired w some big old + somewhat expensive sunglasses that take up half my face. That look is for any yard hangs, beach, or pool days. For dog walks and strolls, I wear same sun glasses and a trucker hat, which really doesn’t give as much sun protection, but I switch street sides for the shade. :)
I wear hats every day now (friend who developed cancers on her scalp + I’ve been having an unending streak of bad hair days.) Though I started off with a few made of raffia, I’ve transitioned to fabric bucket hats that can withstand abuse and be tossed into the washing machine.
Garnet Hill and Terrain have pretty nice selections. that you might like (keep an eye out for sales!):

I’m laughing at Sardines Galore. I think we’ve reached sardine saturation – sardines in 2025 are like butterflies in 2000.
Am I living under a rock? Where are all of these sardines? I feel like I need a round-up just to satisfy my curiosity!
But what about sardines in 2026? Cool again, right? (See my comment downstream—pun—about my new, sardine tee.)
@ Jess – Same! Was totally not aware of this trend!
we’ve def reached peak sardine and that is the best analogy. i saw someone with a tinned sardine can tattoo the other day that looked hot off the press.
All about block neutrals – black, white, sand – every year. With the odd breton shirt.
SPF 1 Million! Though I don’t like to wear hats. Perfectly content to sit in the shade, with or without a cold beverage.
My summer fashion is typically a dress so short it’s almost indecent. Or jeans shorts and a tank top. But mostly the tiny mini dresses. Yes, I am in my late 40’s and no, I do not care because it is Satans Butt Hole hot and humid in my neck of NJ 90% of the summer.
I get it ! East Coast humidity is no joke ! Enjoy your dresses ! :). My summer fashion is flip flops ! And PJs if I’m home, reluctant gauzy capris and a tee shirt ( my tattered Bernie one ) if I’m forced out of my habitat.
I am so weirdly into the sardines thing – suburban midwest Mom and I just love it. I bought the cutest white T from American Eagle with sardines on it and wear it all the time. My husband is flummoxed by it, my 10 year old and 6 year old daughters – delighted.
Same! I have a real cute sardine hair clip and oil painting on my wish list.
Same but I don’t have anything yet. Now I need to go buy something sardine-oriented. LOL
I saw a sardine sundress that I was so tempted to buy, and I’ve never thought of sardines in fashion in my life.😂 So, this comic is particularly funny!
I want to be la marinere but I am, in fact, spf 1 million 😂
Same, Jules. Same.
I echo this as well hahaha
