Pistachios for the win! By the wonderful Grace Farris.
P.S. Solo meals and chef’s table.
I made Smitten Kitchen’s carrot salad with harissa (I added roasted cauliflower) for a neighbor picnic yesterday and it was SUCH a hit. Salads can be so good.
Your comics make me smile. I wish there was a little heart button for feedback. But know comment has many past smiles.
I love this! And 3 out of 4 so true for me, so I guess I just have to give a chance to pistachios?
Pistachios (& mint) in salads FTW!
The one that is missing for me is asparagus! I love a roasted asparagus salad with new potatoes and jammy boiled eggs!
Oh my god this sounds amazing. Thanks for the salad reminder.
Grace Farris, I love everything you draw! This one really nailed it, as I have purchased all the ingredients to make a salad this weekend in which all four of the statements is true:
Summer Fresh Strawberry Salad with Mint Poppy Seed Dressing, by Laura Wright
Pistachios stealing the show! It’s like you’re in my kitchen!
I cannot believe that in my last comment I didn’t first acknowledge Grace’s wonderful cartoon. I love each salad. Avocado arriving and butternut squash going on sabbatical is so funny. I’m going to shell some pistachios for a salad soon!
Thank you Grace!
I’m in Paris right now and the salads are always so good. The dressings are so tasty. I love a salad with chèvre chaud for lunch.
I cannot get enough of mâche (also called corn salad), which is everywhere here. I’ve been buying large containers of it and making salads in our apartment. I’m going to try and grow it this summer. It’s not that easy to find at home.
Beautifully done! The avocado is my favorite.
I love the butternut squash’s hat ☺️
This made me laugh with joy!
…even though avocados are a year-round food for me, one of my kids is seriously allergic to pistachios, I ate butternut squash twice last week, and I’ve never warmed to strawberries in salad, lol.
This time of year that makes one want to be creative with salads! So much fun to use what’s starting to pop out of the garden. And talking ingredients are cute, haha
The other day I made a salad of cabbage, quinoa, and kimchi – fun to say, fun to eat!
Why have I never thought to put pistachios on a salad before!?! There goes the rest of my May grocery budget.
I would eat an old Chuck Taylor if you packed it with fresh-picked greens or strawberries, but I cannot think of a context in which those two splendid things are tastier together than they are apart.
You just need to put some really good balsamic vinegar, a sprinkle of salt and a little olive oil on the spring greens and strawberries. Trust me, Lauren O!
(It’ll be even better if you add little slivers of red onion and a bit of blue cheese, plus maybe some pistachios. I know it may sound weird, but my secret name is Salad Queen. I know what I’m talking about.)
My kids don’t enjoy the strawberry-greens combo, but I love it, especially with a sharp cheese.

I love greens and strawberries with goat cheese, balsamic vinaigrette and toasted walnuts. Baby spinach is good in this combination.
When you have just so-so strawberries and greens!
