This morning not the way to school, my 7 yr old son and I saw and heard:
1) a hawk in the sycamore across the street
2) a robin fly in front of a car
3) a woodpecker pecking nearby
He. was. AMPED!!!! Sometimes I think I wanted to be a mom solely to be front row to those reactions to the world.
Re: burning the coat… Oh man, fake spring in NYC gets me every time! About a week ago I put on my cool leather jacket. Tucked my giant puffy coat away…
But all to no avail.
Now every time I have to lug on that heavy coat… definitely want to burn it.
Must say my allergies are noticeably less intense now that I hardly leave the house!
Hahahaha, overalls research is going strong over here!
There’s a really sweet children’s book called Spring for Sophie (by Yael Weber) and talks about the signs of spring and experiencing them through the different senses. We’ve been reading it with wishful hearts here in Boston!
I bought some overalls last week haha
The overall research is too real.
Overalls research!! Hahaha, how did she know? As I was doing some gardening yesterday, I had that exact thought! But for real: does anyone have a rec for sturdy yet attractive overalls?
Check out Duluth Trading Co! Also, thrift stores used to always have tons of overalls. Not sure now what with the style being more popular, but it might be worth checking out used clothing stores. https://www.duluthtrading.com/women/bottoms/overalls/
Madewell and reformation!!
Oh, try Hey Gang. It’s a small business in my hometown. They make lots of great stuff, especially cute but sturdy overalls for women and kids.
I bought a pair of overalls from Julian for my partner: https://www.etsy.com/shop/Lovecutething
she does custom sizing and everything.
Thanks to this post my best friend and I both bought vegetable-patterned Duluth Trading Company overalls today! So excited for them to bring a pop of spring and whimsy to my wardrobe (and for the knowledge that we are both wearing them this spring, though she’s in Maine and I’m in Colorado).
CoJ readers are seriously the best. I’m loving all these recs! Thank you so much!
Oh yeah, first day of spring! Crazy how fast this March went.
Yes the birds!! I could wax poetic about my feathered friends (and do, frequently, to my husband). Right now I’m looking at 3 gold finches, a titmouse and a few chickadees. I also have a bunch of cardinals but they’re off in another part of the yard right now. The funniest thing is watching the squirrels try to outsmart the squirrel baffle I put up. Honestly, my birdfeeder setup is better than TV!
I put my winter coat away a couple of weeks ago – I don’t want to see it for another 8 months!!
If you’re doing overalls research check out my husband’s company!
Made in Oklahoma!
Those striped overalls are so good! Also, I’m suck a sucker for a baby in overalls.
My wife and I both wear our Roundhouse overalls nearly daily and they are hardwearing, available in an okay range of sizes AND manage to feel sexy (at least for us lesbians). I’ve never loved a pair of overalls so much :)
Thanks Grace! I’m glad you and your wife love them!
B- 18 month overalls are my standard baby gift. (Along with a NosFrida)
The baby modeling the overalls in the website is our daughter Eve :)(8years ago!)
overalls research! hahahaha
I can feel spring in my bones, hear it in the air (biiiirds) and smell it, but it has just started snowing here in Vienna!
I love the “april is the cruelest month” quote, fun fact: I just wrote a huge literature exam in university and ae had to compare the different depictions of spring and the new beginnings in the different centuries in literature… and of course this was the most important quote :)
That lit class sounds right up my alley! I loooove depictions of weather in fiction –it adds such a sense of atmosphere. I hate when people act like weather is a “boring” or cliched topic. Weather influences our moods and emotions so much, and I personally believe the climate we grow up in has a huge effect on our personalities. Also, I am in Prague so we are kinda neighbors. And, yeah, spring has NOT sprung here yet. This post made me (even more) depressed.
OMG yes to all of these. Grace is always so spot on.
Hahaha my brother texted me when he saw the first robin! Happy spring!
A reader named Lee has a question for the group...
"We made a pact with one another to sit down and enjoy the food.”
Chubby babies and milky tea.
