so much joy in these comments! i’ll add one thing i’m looking forward to – HUGS! one of my closest friends had her rainbow baby in october, and i’ve seen him once, but haven’t been able to hug either of them. it is the one thing i’m longing to do, and i hope in the coming months we will all be protected by the vaccine and able to hug each other tightly!

Re: new arrivals–I became a great-aunt this week, at the ripe old age of 36 (my nephew was born when I was 11!), and some friends announced this weekend that they’re having a girl in August. For me, new babies are a sign that the world’s not done yet, and we are responsible for keeping it an okay place for every baby to live and grow up in. We’re not there yet, but we sure as heck can try.

I overhear nurses calling people all day in my health care system asking if they want vaccinations and the number of “no’s” is overwhelming.

If you don’t vaccinate- you’re getting Covid it’s that simple… and it draws it out for the entire country…

Perhaps a post sharing the experiences of some who have been vaccinated and how it felt and why they chose yes.

  4. Maywyn says...

    Cheery, much needed
I also look forward to sandals, but not as much as love ones getting vaccinated.

I’m (hopefully, fingers crossed for good weather) getting my dog this weekend! He’s an older rescue, and a few things have delayed his transport. I’m so excited to finally get to meet him and make the most of however much time he has left with lots of toys, treats, and affection

    • Bonnie says...

How wonderful to adopt an older pet, E! I hope you have many healthy, happy, memory-filled years with him!

I always look forward to this comment section! Such insightful, helpful, warming folks. My family has embraced the Scandinavian way of life and thankfully the freezing days and snow have actually been enjoyable. However, spring will be a welcome sight.

  8. Bursting with excitement to be pregnant again after a crushing miscarriage in December. Crossing my fingers hard!

My dad is due to get his second dose in two weeks and my mom is waiting for her birthday to come so she can try and get her first dose.

  10. Kate says...

Honestly, right now I’m just looking forward to all this snow melting (and the subsequent mud drying)!!

  11. Absolutely looking forward to my parents getting the vaccine! Also cannot wait to do small things without extreme planning: grocery shopping, doctor’s appointments, getting dinner, popping by a neighbor.

    • Kristina says...

Yes! You hit the nail on the head: I can’t wait to do small things without extreme planning. The mental gymnastics of daily chores and plans are exhausting. Looking forward to that particular fog lifting, and of course the vaccine!

  12. Julie says...

My mom is a hospice nurse and has both of her doses now. It’s the best feeling in the world knowing that she’s well protected.

    I’m looking forward to:
    – reading on my deck with a glass of white wine
-playing cornhole on the sidewalk with my husband in the nice weather
-hopefully going on a fully vaccinated road trip in the fall
-the virtual Golden Globes with Amy and Tina
-not worrying so much all the time maybe?
    -hugging my friends
    -getting a dog

    • Therese says...

I love every single one of these. I also appreciate you play cornhole (I call it bags) with your husband… we played in our living room at the height of lockdown!

  13. Emily says...

YEs! Looking forward to each one of those things (typed as my baby kicks me in the ribs).

  14. Laura says...

I got my second dose of the vaccine last week and it feels like there’s truly a light at the end of the tunnel. Hoping with everything I have that we can expect a baby in our future. In the mean time I will look forward to reading new books and smelling the spring flowers!

  15. Julie says...

This feels like it was made for me!! Thanks for the reminder :)

    • Karen says...

My MD-husband got his first dose last thursday, my sister’s baby is due any day now, the snow is gone and the first tulips are starting to grow, the playground (2nd home to the elder child who is turning 2 in just 5 weeks) is no longer a place to freeze to the ground, daycare will start again tomorrow and I got really nice books for my birthday yesterday. Very hopeful and happy!!!

  16. Brittany says...

I planted some hyacinth and tulip bulbs in the fall and I am soooo excited to see them!! Of course the vaccine is what I want most for everyone right now :)

  17. lauren says...

Friends and I have been texting each other photos of our parents as they get their vaccinations, and they’re sent and received with the joy I associate with newborn baby pictures. Life! New life!

    • Kamaile says...

      I love this. New life!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      yes!!!

  18. Christine says...

I feel like this one was written just for me. My parents are receiving the second dose of the COVID vaccine this evening, I’m 24 weeks along with my many-times-over rainbow baby, and I plan to do some work in the garden tomorrow (and I guess tulips are called for!). Thank you, Ms. Farris, for sharing your talents and always getting it right.

    • Senmie says...

Congrats on your rainbow, mine was born in December!

    • Alexa says...

Congratulations, Christine and Senmie and anyone else awaiting rainbows! Mine was born in October and I rejoice with you!

    • Grace Farris says...

I'm watching my (and the entire neighborhood's) spring bulbs so closely I'm worried it will be like a watched pot!

  20. AJ says...

This one hits particularly close to home – I’m excepting my first child this summer and just found out my state is opening vaccine eligibility to all pregnant women starting on Monday! I won’t say no to some fresh flowers or good books, either!

    • E says...

Congratulations!! Sending positive thoughts for a safe pregnancy and birth and a healthy mom and baby :)

    • Sage says...

      Congrats :)!

    • H says...

Congrats AJ! I also relate, expecting my first child too, at the end of this summer. Lots to look forward to!
