Last week, I met up with my friend Gemma for a morning of strolling and people watching in lower Manhattan, and we both wore our beloved Nisolo boots…
My style is more casual and laid-back. I have my sweater-and-jeans uniform, and I’ll often add a jacket depending on the weather. I’ve worn Nisolo shoes for years (the huaraches in the summer and boots in the winter), and they’ve held up beautifully. Here, I’m wearing the Chelsea Boot in nutmeg, a brown suede that goes with everything. The timeless shape and 1.25″ heel height make them easy to wear with jeans, skirts and dresses; and the boot comes in a black version that is water resistant, too.
Gemma’s typical look has more of a London edge, classic with a hint of punk. In her words, “I want to dress like Faye Dunaway in Network crossed with all of the characters in Empire Records.” She styled these olive boots with a swingy plaid skirt, but she also wears them with jeans and dresses. “The boots look cool and aren’t too heavy, which sounds strange, but some other boots are like wearing anvils.”
Interestingly, the Amalia Boot was designed after Nisolo’s female customers asked for a version of the bestselling men’s all-weather Andres boot. So now the men’s and women’s versions are water resistant and ready for all types of conditions. It feels rare to have a functional boot that looks so good.
Gemma also loves the crossbody bag, which is the perfect size for day and night. It fits all the essentials without being too bulky. “It feels very late ’70s Paris and I am here for it.” She also says it gets constant compliments.
Nisolo makes quality pieces to wear season after season, year after year. All of their pieces are ethically produced, in factories where employees receive beyond fair trade wages, as well as healthcare and a great working environment. And, we can say from personal experience, their Nashville-based team is as warm and wonderful as the principles they stand for. They’re also dedicated to recycling shoes and reducing waste through their work with Soles4Souls and are offsetting their company’s carbon emissions by helping to protect forests in the Amazon basin.
Great news: Nisolo is offering 20% off all Nisolo products using code FALLJO20. Thank you so much, Nisolo!
