As a dentist who loves to treat patients with jaw issues and who clenches her teeth, let me tell you- this is not an insignificant issue! The tongue should rest on the palate, with the teeth slightly apart and the jaw slightly forward. This allows your throat to be open and you can breath the best. If you can’t do this then please go to your dentist and/or ENT to find out what treatment you need. Deviations from this can lead to an inability to breath while you sleep and GREATLY increases your risk of heart disease, diabetes, dementia, fertility, sexual function…
Finally, a different kind of illustrator. Thank you!
Haha this is so spot on. Love these Friday cartoons!
Oh my god noo!!! Will I EVER be able to stop thinking about where it goes and how to keep it there?
Deep Meditative Breathing. Works for me since I was a teenager in the 60’s. I’m a cardiac patient now, with “White Coat Syndrome” and the doctor gives me a minute or two for me to “deep breathe” to bring my blood pressure down before he takes my pressure. Like magic. I do it all through the day.
Drop your shoulders and close your eyes.
Slowly breathe in through your nose.
Exhale slowly out through your mouth.
“In with the good. Out with the bad.”
Namaste.
Yaaaaasssssssss @yeahitschill
I deep dive this insta when I need a smile
This is so funny – I am just coming from my lunchtime yoga class, and the teacher makes us go into positions and hold them, like stand on one leg and bend over, etc. and then she says “this is a meditation in action” while everyone is huffing and puffing while doing the exercise. And today she added: you know why it’s called a meditation? Because you have to focus on not falling over, so you can’t think of anything else. This class is such a sweet start into my weekend.
As a teacher of singing, I can tell you that, counterintuitively, your tongue rests on the top of your mouth, not in the bottom.
Otherwise, funny!
Exactly! A nice place to put your tongue while meditating is relaxed and right behind your two front teeth. (Since traditionally in meditation you breathe in and out through your nose.) :) For those who want to meditate but haven’t been able to get it going, meditation coaches are great!!
And also: saying “my mind thinks to much to meditate” is like saying “I’m too inflexible to do yoga.” Consistent yoga makes you flexible! And consistent meditation quiets your thoughts!!
This is funny because when you scroll down to the next post, the photo of the giant tongue in the dinner post is right there. :)
Hahahah
Oh my goodness this couldn’t be more relatable! I have never been able to meditate in the traditional way. My mind is too wild for that. What helps for me is checking in with myself physically, mentally, and emotionally just to make sure everything feels fine. It only takes a second but it works. As weird as it sounds, I also talk to myself. When I’m feeling any type of negative emotion, I go somewhere quiet and just talk myself through it.
me neither! my meditation: go to a forest, close my eyes and just listen. or stare at nature – never fails to clear my mind :)
