We’re Hiring!

A quick note to say: Cup of Jo is hiring! As we head into a big and exciting new year, we’re looking for a creative and analytical marketer to drive new initiatives and growth in our audience and business. This is a full-time position based in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Here are the details…

Cup of Jo is a leading media company centered around our award-winning women’s lifestyle site. We cover fashion, beauty, design, culture, travel, food, relationships and parenting. We have a global community of more than 1 million unique readers per month — bright, funny women, who are deeply engaged with the site. Our team members are creative and collaborative. Cup of Jo has top-tier partners and a wide-ranging impact, and yet our small team atmosphere allows us to be nimble, take ownership of new projects and move quickly in fun directions. We always strive to be inclusive and authentic. As Olive Kitteridge said, “There’s no such thing as a simple life.”

Partnerships and Growth Lead

About the role:

We’re looking for an experienced digital marketer to join our team of editors and lead strategy and partnerships. You will be excited to analyze and optimize our revenue streams, deepen our existing sponsor relationships and go after new opportunities, both digital and offline. You will work directly with Joanna on the overall company strategy and vision, including new initiatives, and will collaborate with our editors to bring these ideas to life across multiple channels. You will thrive on having a direct contribution to the success of the business.

About the ideal candidate:

* Experienced executor with a strategic aptitude.
* 7+ years of digital marketing experience; in-house at an online publisher is a major plus.
* Must be familiar with sponsored partnerships, affiliate marketing and audience growth tactics (email, social, etc).
* A self-starter who is able to think entrepreneurially and eager to take an idea and run with it.
* Curious, efficient and solution oriented, with a strong attention to detail.
* Brings energy and passion to everything they do.

Cup of Jo is an equal opportunity employer. We’re happy to offer a competitive salary and medical/dental benefits, plus a generous vacation plan. We work from a bright, comfortable, friendly Brooklyn office with excellent snacks.

If you’re interested, please email careers@cupofjo.com with a letter about yourself and a resumé. We’ll be reviewing the applications over the next few weeks and will be in touch shortly. Thank you so much for your time and interest! Very much looking forward to hearing from you. xoxo

oh goodness.. just now seeing this. I suppose you’ve already filled the position by now *crosses fingers*??

  2. I CANNOT BELIEVE I’m only just now seeing this. This is my ideal literal dream position and you will have my application TONIGHT! Joanna – I’ve been journaling and writing about a role with the nexus of what you described above – finding potential opportunities, collaborations, funding, resources, partnerships, and marketing projects for a brand like yours. I’ve also got marketing and some non-traditional online skills under my belt, and way more I’m willing to explore. I’m thrilled about this and it’s nuts I didn’t see it sooner. Tonight. Also going to DM you in Instagram and via email. Thank you for this opportunity. With love, Ishita Gupta (If you scroll below to see my site, just know it needs a proper update: My linked in is more accurate and up-to-date.) I’ll share details when I apply properly, but I’m a twin (she’s a min older), went to U of M for a year (then Wayne State U), applied/got into medical school after a couple years applying, have had a grief journey the last two years, started a digital magazine years ago, have been in publishing/marketing/online space for last 10 years. I’ll tailor this all and sorry if this is an insane amount of info – I’m just EXCITED!

    Fatherly is pretty good…

  4. Amy Direen says...

I’ve been reading a cup of jo regularly since 2009! :) As I was reading this weekend my husband said “I wish there was A Cup of Jo geared towards men.” Do you have any recommended blogs for smart, thoughtful men?

    • Joanna Goddard says...

What a sweet note! Hmmm, I’m not sure! I wish I had recs. Anyone else?

  5. Preeti says...

Looking out for when you may invite people , only posted across the world, to contribute to your team. The COJ team, outside contributors and the readers are a joy to read and look forward to. On my wish list to contribute to the COJ site.

  6. Hi! Out of curiosity, how many employees do you have? It seems like you’re a pretty small (but mighty!) operation for the reach you have!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

thank you so much! we have 3-4 full-time employees, including myself, at any given time, plus a handful of freelance writers/photographers/illustrators that we adore. xoxo

    • janine says...

Can freelance writers pitch you, if not interested in a full-time position?

  7. I’m a graphic designer on a marketing team! Call me when you need a designer <3 Can't wait to see who you hire!

  8. Yulia says...

Not related… but can you do a post about new year’s resolutions, please? Even just to ask readers what they are/aren’t doing. I love the comments section on these posts, and this is the kind of thing I discuss with my sisters.

Thanks for considering, and Happy New Year!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      Yes! Coming up :)

    • Yulia says...

      Thanks so much, Joanna. Yay!

  9. Courtney says...

Hi and Happy 2019 to the CoJ team and community! Just curious: do you anticipate any additional positions to open up this year? While I am not a fit for this particular role, I’m keeping my eyes closely peeled for editorial positions :) Best of luck in the search!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      We will keep you posted!

  10. Brandi says...

Hello, I know you are not looking for a remote person but would you consider someone who is willing to relocate?

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      For sure!

  11. Hi Joanna and Cup of Jo, what is the salary range for this position? Providing salary ranges is super beneficial to women, and especially women of color. It helps to level the playing field in negotiations, which in turn helps to close the gender wage gap. I’ve included a link below to a factsheet I helped write at the National Women’s Law Center – I hope you’ll consider posting the salary range here or at least offering it upon request. All the best and happy new year.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

thank you so much for this, sarah! it’s really interesting to learn. i’m going to try to figure out how to do this. for this role, the salary has a wide range, depending on the person and their experience, since the role could be a manager level or director level. i’ll try to figure out if we can reflect this in some way. we could definitely share it upon request. thank you so much.

  12. claire says...

I’ve read a LOT of job postings and most of them are just awful. This one is so much better: specific, clear, focused, friendly, inviting, warm.
I bet you will find just the right person!

  13. Keeley says...

I dream of working at CoJ someday. I admire the balance of a consistent voice and evolving content. I’m sure there are many busy paddlers below water to make this duck glide so smoothly. Keep up the great work.

  14. Caitlin says...

Hi! Would you consider someone remotely? Biggest fan just on the other side of the country :)

    • Joanna Goddard says...

thank you so much, caitlin! for this position, the person needs to be in the office for in-person brainstorming sessions, sponsor meetings, etc. thank you! xoxo

  15. Alex says...

Excellent snacks :DDD – you are the best!

  16. Jacquie says...

Congrats on one million regular readers; you deserve every bit of your success.

  17. “…with excellent snacks.”

Saving the best for last! Such a great opportunity; I’m sure you’ll have a flood of great applicants!

  18. Beth says...

I already have a job I love, but I very much would read a post describing these “excellent snacks.” What’s in the CoJ break room these days?

    • Angela says...

      Ooh definitely seconded!
