The Only Boots I’m Wearing This Fall

I am a (kind of) recent Nashville transplant and luckily found the brand on Instagram one day. I made it to their sample sale and snagged a pair for 70%(!!!!!) off and never looked back. They were one of my first “big girl” puchases and my most prized poesssion. They are made sustainably and contribute to my local economy, I love it! It’s so fun to support local brands that are doing great things, and get to feel like a badass at the same time.

The huarache type sandals are lovely and comfortable. My second pair of Nisolos, the oxford style, were a complete disappointment. They have since changed the part of the shoe that hits your upper heel, but mine are from before that change, and are simply unwearable. They make mincemeat out of your upper heel. Unfortunately, this was not obvious until I wore them for a day. Nisolo advised me to order some sort of heel salve instead of offering to take them back. And it wasn’t just me….I saw other comments on Instagram about this flaw in the shoe. I won’t be buying from them again.

The Nisolo factory is located in Trujillo, where I sometimes travel for work. However, when I tried to contact them to see if I could visit the factory, I never got an answer by email nor did they answer the phone. Pity, since I wanted to see their shoes, as I do not live in the US!

I LOVE the look of Nisolo shoes, and I’ve admired the brand for years, but they need to expand their range of sizes! I’m a 5/5.5 in a lot of shoes (and I’ve heard their sizing runs big as it is), which means I can’t wear their lovely shoes!

I adore Nisolo shoes. I have a pair of the smoking shoes that have become my weekenders, and I have worn their black Ava flats *every day* for my job since June. (They’re apparently discontinued–I cried a little inside when I discovered that!) I wear both pairs so much that I’ve already had to take them to a cobbler for re-soling, but it was well worth it to keep them as closet staples. I also invested in some leather conditioner to keep them in tip-top shape. I can’t recommend this brand enough. (I have the huaraches on my Christmas list this year, and if I didn’t have giant ankles I’d be all over those Chelsea boots!)

I was on holiday in Nashville last October and happened into their store….such beautiful shoes and accessories! If only they shipped to Amsterdam (Jo – can you convince them to go international? PLEASE! )

I love cupofjo and have been a happy reader for years. But lately I feel the blog is getting more and more about selling things. I would so much appreciate reading posts without links to all kinds of shops and products. Of course this is a business, but is it really necessary for all of us to buy, buy and buy? It‘s hard to find a good balance, I understand that, but I don‘t feel as uplifted as I used to when I visit cupofjo.

I see no pictures with SOCKS to keep the ankle warm. How do you manage the NYC winter !?
I always have trouble styling myself when it’s cold because I cannot keep up with boyfriend jeans or any pants thar show the ankle naked !

I love the mission or the company and the design of the shoes but, for the price point, I was disappointed in the rough finishing. Pulls on leather and raw edges… I wound up sanding down the tongue/ edges of the d’orsay flat.

1. I love Nisolo, their quality is BEAUTIFUL!

2. There is a misconception about “direct to consumer” being the fairest price. I love that it exists more prevalently now, but people need to consider when they shop from a beloved boutique like Bird in Brooklyn or Oroboro, you are not getting ripped off. You are helping to support a healthy economy where small shops can exist. If everything was “direct to consumer” your favorite boutiques couldn’t survive. Something to think about I hope.

There is nothing ethical about using leather or suede.
Please profile companies that abstain from using animal products.
It is a cruel and environmentally detrimental practice.

I love Nisolo. I have a pair of their Serena sandals that I live in all summer long; I’ve had them for two years now and they still look awesome! Luckily I live in Nashville so I can visit their shop and drool over all the shoes.

My favorite shoes are made by Hotter, a British company whose shoes are made in England. They’re super comfortable, and I have 2 pairs of their ballet flats, 2 pairs of their sandals, a pair of sneakers, and 2 pairs of pumps. I don’t even notice I’m wearing heels when I wear the pumps. I also like Toms, and I have boots of various brands, but my favorite boot has to be my Ariat cowboy boots. I looked at the Nisolo website, and I liked what I saw, but I don’t need any shoes as of now. Quality shoes will give you many years of wear, and will be comfortable.

Nisolo makes beautiful shoes. This made me curious about a post you did with Red Wing Heritage boots. Between the two, which soles would be best for lots of snow and ice? I keep debating between them, maybe you can help. :)

I bought their leather slip on sneakers (luna) and they have definitely grown on me. The fit is pretty awkward (they really rub your ankle bone) but once I sized down, added heel grips and moleskine pads I quite like them. They look lovely and are very unique, but for the price I wish they were comfortable right out of the box.
