Week of Outfits: Stella Blackmon

Cup of Jo editor Stella Blackmon comes into the office looking adorable Every. Single. Day. “Where did you get that shirt/sweater/pants?” we’ll ask. Today, Stella shows us five outfits she wore in a week…

Sweater: Uniqlo. Pants: Aritzia. Sandals: St. Agni, on sale.

“Overall, my style is very low-key. On Saturday morning cartoons, there’s always a moment when the main character goes to their closet to get dressed, and inside there are only copies of the outfit they always wear. That’s me with sweaters. I have this simple Uniqlo one in navy and gray, and they really are everything. They’re light enough to wear in the summer or to tuck into pants, and they still keep their shape, which doesn’t usually happen. I always get excited by the most mundane details, like a high neckline and half sleeve.”

Sweater: babaã. Jeans: Agolde. Sneakers: Pumas. Purse: Clare V.

“Growing up, after doing our weekend chores, my brother and I would always avoid my mom if she was wearing her Nikes. It meant two things: She was getting stuff done, and she was doling out extra tasks to anyone that crossed her path. Nowadays, I have my own taking-care-of-business outfit in the form of a sweater, jeans and sneakers combo. I feel like I can do errands in double-time wearing it.”

“In my studio apartment, I have room for exactly 15 hangers in my closet, so before bringing something home, I really contemplate whether I can wear it over and over. I saved up for these straight-leg jeans for months, and now I wear them every other day. Having a limit on what I can bring home makes it easier to keep to a budget. To make sure something isn’t an impulse buy, I’ll take a screenshot of it and wait two or three weeks or until my finances can handle it. Often, by the time I revisit the piece, I’ve changed my mind. It helps me stay on track.”

Dress: Reformation. Denim jacket: Everlane. Sneakers: Pumas.

“I like this dress for dates or with sneakers on the weekend. The sleeve has this miniature puff that is so endearing. If I want to do it up before a night out, I’ll sit on my bathroom sink and play a zillion Katie Jane Hughes makeup tutorials, and then attempt a swipe of red eyeshadow. They are so addicting to watch. She also taught me about this straightening brush, and now it truly takes two minutes to do my hair. It has not saved me any time getting ready, though, because I just watch more Katie Jane Hughes videos!”

Blouse: Doên. Jeans: Agolde. Heels: Everlane.

“It’s always the movies that get me re-psyched about clothes. Lately, I’ve been on an ’80s-era kick. Call Me By Your Name did a number on me. Did you know the costume designer went door-to-door in the town they filmed to collect vintage photographs of the locals to make sure the fashion felt authentic? All of the characters looked great, but the mom was ICONIC. Then I was recently on the hunt for a denim jacket to look more like Timotheé Chalamet, haha.”

Denim jacket: Everlane. Dress: Article&. Sandals: St. Agni, on sale.

“You how people say that kids always remember the times they threw up? I remember every outfit in my life that drove me nuts. Like my blue Mary Janes I had in fourth grade that pinched my heels unless I walked on my toes, or the cargo pants with five rogue zippers. Or the homecoming dress I had to casually hold up the entire night with one hand. What was I thinking? The clothes that let you do you are where it’s at. Now I know.”

Thanks so much, Stella!
