Allbirds Are the World's Most Comfortable Sneakers

Allbirds Are the World's Most Comfortable Sneakers

For my whole adult life, I’ve worn canvas sneakers year round. But last year, after spotting Allbirds Wool Runners around town (and hearing how incredibly comfortable they were), I ordered a pair. And everything changed…

San Francisco-based Allbirds makes their sneakers from New Zealand merino wool, which naturally stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also keeps moisture away, which means no more stinky sneakers (they’re also 100 percent washable). But most of all, their stretchy wool fabric makes them EXTRAORDINARILY COMFORTABLE. It feels like you’re wearing slippers, and now when I try regular running shoes, they feel like cardboard boxes.

I love wearing them so much that I’ve been gradually converting everyone I know (Alex has a pair in natural black he bought after trying mine and becoming obsessed). Last Friday, I invited my friend Naemmah to try a few different Allbirds styles.

First, we hung out on the High Line in the Wool Runners. Mine are natural white and Naemmah’s are Kotare mint, named after one of New Zealand’s birds. Naemmah and I talked about our kids, work and life over ice pops while taking in the views. Meanwhile, our feet felt amazing.

Naemmah and I also treated ourselves to a pedicure at tenoverten in Soho. We tried pairs of the new Wool Loungers in grey and black. Allbirds are perfect for travel, especially this new style. They slip on and off easily, and they look great with jeans or dresses. (I wore the Wool Runners throughout a Paris trip last winter and was stopped by multiple women asking me about them.)

As you can tell, I can’t recommend Allbirds enough! For such a cool, durable shoe, they’re really affordable, and somehow they combine all the best aspects of other sneakers into one. It’s no surprise that when they first launched on Kickstarter in 2014 they caused a sensation. The two friends behind Allbirds have really nailed it.

What do you think? Would you try them? Which color would you wear? See them all here,
if you’d like.
