Everlane Fall Shoes

A reader named Molly recently wrote in with a (funny) question:

I’m relocating to Manhattan after spending two years in Los Angeles, and now that I’m apartment hunting and going on job interviews, my feet are ruined after just two weeks! A friend suggested I do the Elevator Switch (wear sneakers from point A to B and then put on heels during the elevator ride up). So my trusty New Balances have been my go-to. Then sadly, I caught sight of myself in a black pencil dress with my NB Fresh Foams, and I realized that I looked less “editor at New York Fashion Week” and more Melanie Griffith in Working Girl. So, I am dying to know what shoes you really wear every day. Thank you!

Our answer: Everlane shoes have become our uniform. Here’s how we wear them…

Everlane Fall Shoes

FOR COMMUTING: The Street Shoe will be your very best friend. They’re as comfy as your oldest sneakers, but the pointed shape keep them feeling urban — not like you’re coming from the gym. Perfect for long walks and weekends.

The Street Shoe comes in multiple colors in leather, nubuck and woven.

Everlane Fall Shoes

FOR WORK: The Modern Loafer is the perfect shoe for work. You can dress them down with jeans and a flannel, or dress them up with a dress and tights. We love how they look like men’s shoes yet have a graceful shape and stacked heel. They make you feel instantly pulled together.

The loafers are now available in eight colors in leather and shiny patent leather.

Fall Shoes

FOR PLAY: The newest addition to the Everlane shoe family is the Chelsea Boot, which just launched today. They’re the ideal bootie (Caroline is obsessed): comfortable to walk in, with a low heel and streamlined shape that feels modern and sexy. Our favorite part: They’re fitted around the ankle, which means they never look bulky and tucking them into jeans is a breeze.

The boot comes in four pretty colors.

Everlane Fall Shoes

Last but not least, Everlane offers one-hour delivery (!) in NYC and San Francisco. So you could even wear them tonight, if you’d like. ;)

Thank you so much, Everlane!

P.S. A note about fit: For all of their styles except the Chelsea Boot, Everlane recommends ordering a half size up. The Chelsea Boot runs true to size.

  1. Jennifer says...

Pity there are no large sizes. Sure they say they go up to an 11, but every shoe has an annotation that they run small and to order a half size up. So if you’re an 11 what then? Why on earth don’t they just size them accurately? Or be honest that they don’t care about customers who take large sizes

    • Valerie says...

Yes, I too wish that the 11 was a wide… I would make every effort to purchase them. I just can’t find anything ‘goodlooking’ that is comfortable and easy to wear.

  2. Carolyn says...

Of course the shoes these shoes are ridiculously expensive. The shoes are fabulous, but I don’t make enough to pay NY rent, food shop, take the horrible subway system, and buy $170 pair of shoes.

    • Christine says...

      I hear you! :p

  3. The shoes are so cute! I am so glad I stumbled onto this post today. Somebody actually just recently told me about these shoes, but then I forgot the brand name and couldn’t find them online. Then your post reminded me! I wish they were a little less expensive, but they are gorgeous. Love your whole ensemble in that last photo.

Cole haan zero grand Oxford sneakers. Trust me. Professional, trendy, casual, dressy, light as a feather, cushioned, YES! I have 3 pair. : ) I seriously hope she reads this. They’re the BEST BEST!!!!! There’s a reason the girl in the ad looks so damn happy. No I don’t work there.

    • rita giunta says...

They are a great shoe but the down side is if they get wet due to weather change or your feet sweat. It will stain your socks. Just know this it isn’t a all weather shoe.

  5. Anna says...

I always admire the New Yorkers for an ability to walk around with bare legs / feet, regardless of the season! How do you do that?! PS Love the shoes!

  6. Bethany Susan says...

These are cute and all, but I imagine there are quite a few readers who can’t afford them. Any (still comfortable and adorable) lower priced suggestions?

  7. I’ve been looking for the perfect loafers and Chelsea boots; these are a dream! I’ll be trying to save up for them for a while, but they look like they’re totally worth it.

  8. Lauren B. says...

Curse my size 4.5 feet!! These are beautiful.

  9. I just ordered the Chelsea boots in burgundy yesterday! Can’t wait to get them. Love Everlane.

  10. oooooh nice!

  11. Mari says...

I’d also love to know where Caroline’s leather jacket is from, it’s beautiful! I’ve been looking for a good quality but affordable leather jacket for a while now – any tips welcome :)

    • Lauren E. says...

I bought a leather jacket from Zara seven years ago, and hemmed and hawed over the $200 price tag. I called my mom and she talked me into it, and thank god she did. I’ve worn it every spring and fall since then, it still looks just as great as the day I bought it, and I still feel stylish all these years later. I would imagine they carry them every season.

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

Hi Mari! It’s from Madewell: http://cupjo.co/1QYnrCE
I bought it over a year ago and have worn it nearly every (weather appropriate) day since!

  12. yael steren says...

My faves are my Nicholas Kirkwood beya loafers! I’ve worn them a few times on my blog (in fact I’m wearing them in today’s post – http://www.yaelsteren.com/work-wardrobe-wednesday-no-47/ ). I also have them in white (but it’s a flat leather, not patent). The best part is that I can actually walk around in them and don’t have to change once I arrive at my location, like I do when I’m wearing heels!!! xx yael

  13. I am wondering the same as Emily. Whenever I wear slip-on flats like these, I get blisters on the back of my heels. Are there any secrets I don’t know? They are great looking! I’d love a pair. :)

    • Ramona says...

Get the petals cushion tabs made specifically for the heel of the loafer/sneaker/flat

  14. I want slash need all of these! Y’alls style/comfort ratio is the Holy Grail and your pics are always 100%. (Speaking of, any slipper recommendations? tempted by the mahabis but a little more $$ than the Jcrew lodge moccasins I’ve been obsessed with for years)

  15. Joanna says...

A Coupon Code would be great, especially to offset the cost to Canada. I have narrow feet and these look perfect.

  16. LOVE those chelsea boots! Unfortunately I’m in Arkansas, not NYC or San Fran, so the one hour delivery isn’t quite a thing! Someday!

    • ShenAnno says...

The shipping rates aren’t bad, and for two items, free. Try Everlane. It’s worth it.

  17. Sara says...

I bought the everlane loafers and they were beautiful! Unfortunately, they are exceptionally narrow (even for my very narrow feet) so would require sizing up in order to fit properly. A bit of a dicey, expensive purchase without fitting prior to purchase

  18. Christie says...

I have the Everlane loafers in navy blue and I ADORE them! They took quite a while to break in (I don’t wear socks with them which could be why) but now they are my go-to, they fit perfectly in that gap between ‘flimsy ballet flats’ and ‘sturdy boots’.

I have noticed they are getting quite scuffed in the heels – if anyone is wondering, a little saddle soap cleared the scuffs up nicely! (and the tip was provided by Everlane customer service)

  19. Danielle d. says...

Clarks in general are awesome. They aren’t too bad price and you can find then at discount stores Ross, TJ Maxx, etc.

I walked around Philly during a two day period in a pair of Clark flats and my feet felt fine.

  20. Alicia says...

I agree with others that these look way better in your pics than on their website. I still am not too fond of them, though. I think they look way too long and they end up making people look like they have long, unfeminine feet. I recently purchased the Lien.do Endicott Loafers from Anthropologie which are much more flattering, in my opinion! But, to each their own!

  21. Kate says...

Could you also highlight some shoes at a lower price point? I love the look of Everlane shoes, but at $100+ for flats and $200+ for boots they’re out of my price range.

    • Theresa says...

      I agree!!

  22. Kate says...

I still remember the first time you posted about Everlane and all they had was white tshirts!

  23. Tiffany says...

I’ve noticed that most of your shoe recommendations run narrow. It’d be great to get some recommendations for your more peasant-footed lady readers. =)

  24. Emily says...

I’m looking for a pair of shoes to wear to Paris this spring, which will include a lot of walking, so want something comfy and classic looking! Would the loafers be comfortable enough for that? I like the look of the street shoe for the most part, but have issues with white sole/dark upper.

    • Jaclyn says...

Emily! I was just there for a month! My feet were killing me, so I bought some Sunitas. They are so cute, give me excellent posture, my feet never hurt, and you can wear them barefoot or with socks or tights! I bought them in Monmarte, but you can get Sunitas anywhere. Highly recommended. Have fun! ??

  25. Kristy says...

do you guys have any recommendations for reallyyy dressy shoes for a really dressy dress (besides ballet flats)? I’ve looked at a lot of pretty flats but while they look like they definitely would dress up a cute daytime dress, they look like it would be a little grandma-y to wear them with a really formal dress (no offense to grandmas!). I want to find something besides heels that fit the look–I’m sorta philosophically against heels–they’re bad for your feet, they hurt, and you can’t dance or even walk in them!

    • Kristy, what about d’Orsay flats? Madewell makes a pretty pair, but you can find them everywhere these days, and they have a bit of edge/ sexiness which would pair well with a formal dress. Even a pair with an ankle strap would be so pretty. (I realize you didn’t ask me haha but I thought I’d chime in! :)

    • Christie says...

Maybe consider a kitten/low heel? Much more comfortable/less damaging for your feet.

    • Taylor says...

How about a pair of pointed toe flats? I was just eyeing a pair in M. Gemi that could work with a formal dress.

      http://mgemi.com/cat/flats/

I ordered a pair of sandals, after Cup of Jo highlighted the brand. Unfortunately they were a bit narrow for my average to slightly wide feet. Not certain if all the shoes run narrow, but the customer service was great handling the return.

  26. Cynthia says...

I like the loafers, but I’d have to wear some socks or tights with them or I would have blisters. They’re also beyond my budget. Could you show shoes less than $100 a pair? I realize you get what you pay for.

  27. I really love the patent loafers and the street sneak. However, I never know how much to spend. Working in a corporate or semi, business casual (when you’re an arty, creative, bright sneaker type), is SO EXPENSIVE. Could someone tell me if these are a good, sensible, truly chic purchase (besides being beautiful-they’ve got that!)? I’m such a baby about decisions bc I will buy anything. ANYTHING!

  28. those pics of Caroline are awesome

  29. sally says...

What about socks? I live in Boston, so it’s a bit colder than NYC. If I don’t wear socks I freeze whenever I’m outside (my feet totally control my entire body’s temperature) and my feet sweat and stink (not pleasant for anyone) inside. Can you recommend shoes that aren’t boots that can be worn with socks? Or can you show me how to wear the cute loafers with socks? For me this is a deal breaker and why I still wear basic tennis shoes (or boots, but I get sick of the weight of boots) basically every day.

    • Angel says...

Have I been doing it wrong? I’ve always worn thin socks with loafers.

    • gk says...

Sally, I actually came to the comments looking for an answer to this very question! You are not the only one! No socks = smelly shoes and cold. How to wear these cute shoes with socks?

    • gk says...

…but don’t your feet get cold?

    • Lea says...

I tend to wear loafers or flats when it’s not too cold outside, so it’s worked for me.

If it’s cold it’s time for my booties :)

  30. Thanks for showcasing Everlane! That’s a brand I have always wanted to try. I have the same problem–I walk a mile to work and back everyday. Would the loafers be comfortable and sturdy enough to do that?

  31. i live in sf and walk A LOT. i have the everlane loafers and love how they look, but sadly every wear still gives me blisters :(

  32. Erin says...

Caroline! Where is that beautiful leather jacket from?

    • J.D says...

I’d love to know as well! I’ve been looking for a leather jacket for ever!

  33. Annika says...

Awe, I was hoping for a coupon code. :(

  34. I have an appointment with my buddies at Everlane to try some styles and I can’t wait! I’m mainly eyeing that chelsea boot :) Chelsea boots are my go-tos for trekking around nyc :) Love these style ideas!

  35. The Everlane loafers are so pretty! I’ve never tried them so I can’t attest to their comfort. But I would recommend Cole Haan! I think they are underrated and their collaboration with Nike makes them super comfortable! I own a pair of ballet flats and sandals both Cole Haan (Nike) and they are super comfortable! I posted a pic of my sandals on IG awhile back and They were Joanna-approved ;) Also my husband owns some of the Cole Haan lunar wingtips which he Swears by!

  36. Sarah says...

Jo, where is your red plaid shirt from? I’ve been searching high and low for a plaid flannel that’s soft and cozy.

  37. Addy says...

I love Everlane stuff! Everything I buy there is well-made, well-proportioned and beautiful.

    • Good to know! I’m glad to hear it’s well made! It’s so pretty, I wasn’t sure if it would also be in real life.

  38. I walk an hour each way to work and def look like a dork in my reebok sneakers. But i change INTO my loafers. They’re comfy, but i dunno, serious walking still needs more, imo.

    • Rosalinda says...

An hour each way! You go, Jill! I walk 30 minutes each way and I’ve found nothing is as comfy as sneakers. I’ve tried loafers, ballet slippers, low-heeled riding boots. It does pain me to look like the character in ‘Working Girl’; I carry nicer shoes in my bag if I need them

  39. Erin says...

Question about fit! I wear a narrow shoe, so I actually got kind of excited when I saw the “warning” to order up a size. But I’m wondering: do they run narrow in the heel? The toes? Shoes can be narrow in different ways, alas!

    • Lauren says...

Narrow overall but mostly in the toes, not the heel.

    • Charli says...

I feel you! I wear a 10.5, which is basically non-existent for women’s shoes so I’m stuck ordering a 10 or an 11 and hoping for the best. Everlane has a great return policy so you can order a pair and try it out!

  40. Amylauree says...

Chelsea boots are my main love in life. Warm, stylish, pants or leggings go with them, jeans and dresses. They are so versatile and so cool!! I’m with you Caroline!

    • I ordered the Chelsea boot in the burgundy and gray. They are so completely adorable. The problem is they are incredibly stiff. How long does it take to wear them in to be a comfortable shoe???? Not sure whether I should return them or stick it out. Any thoughts are appreciated!

  41. I want the loafers but am too worried that they will kill my Achilles tendon! Do they rub against the back of your heel without socks? It’s always a deal-breaker for me (that and they look incredibly narrow!)

Any fit comments would be super helpful! =)

    • Lauren says...

They didn’t hit my Achilles at all. Although they did hit my bone along my ankle, but that eventually broke in.

  42. I have black modern loafers and they are super comfortable, I LOVE them. They have formed perfectly to my feet and I wear them everywhere. I recommend them!

  43. I also live in Manhattan and have the Everlane loafers in black. My coworker has them in burgundy and they are also gorgeous. However, its worth noting that mine have stretched quite a bit as I’ve worn them for about 5 months. I would order two sizes (return one) and feel them out…knowing they’ll give a little (I ordered up). I also just love loafers of all sort. I wore some new monkstrap loafers today that are gorgeous. I would do your best to hit up sample sales (check out Racked). That allows me to get really great leather shoes and boots that are higher quality but more in my budget. And I just gave up on heels that aren’t lower and thick (like a boot). Good luck! Welcome to the city!

also- I’ve used the one hour delivery in Manhattan and its AWESOME (Everlane’s Ryan tanks are amazing)

  44. bridget says...

I love the reader comment. I work in SF and refuse to wear sneakers unless I am on a run. I walk and bike in heels. I think it is funny to see sneakers and suits. To each her own and it always makes me smile- just I am sure as me biking in heels makes others smile too.

  45. Shannon says...

Hi Joanna, I heard they updated the sizing, is that true? I tried the street shoes and I wanted to love them but even in half a size up they were too narrow! Do you know how the new fit compares and which shoes have the new fit? Thanks!

  46. oh those patent loafers make my heart sing! I know they’re worth every penny, but I just can’t justify them being a college student with a college budget. Someday!

  47. Alice Quin says...

    Cuties!

  48. love loafers! my coworker wears them all the time and i need to grab myself a pair!

  49. I usually like a high heel, but these are some amazing shoes! Can’t wait to check out the website.

Is anyone else having an issue clicking through from Facebook? An awful ad that automatically directs me to a third party site plays for 40 excruciating seconds before I can get my Cup Of Jo fix!

Ps. Love the booties! That heel is perfect!

  51. Maria says...

Coupon code for us Joanna!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need the new loafers but they are just too expensive!!!

  52. Emily says...

I love Everlane! I’ve been eyeing their pretty loafers for a while now. Have the loafers given you any blisters? I hesitate because I’ve had that issue with similar shoes.

  53. Caitlin says...

ONE HOUR DELIVERY?!?!?!? Oh, how I miss living in NYC…

  54. DN says...

Those look lovely and the whole line is very tempting, but I am hooked on No. 6 Clogs. I especially like the woven top closed heel clog on a low wedge base. They are pricey but very worth it. I find them to be extremely comfortable; they look good with many skirts, jeans, and pants; and the platform allows me to reach the subway handrails and keep my feet dry when walking through puddles. The wood is also a good insulator for cold days. I wear book clogs from Sven in the winter with a shearling insole–heaven.

  55. Cristina Hasbun says...

I love Everlane and loving all these pictures/styles! Where did Caroline get her black leather jacket from? Obsessed!

  56. I’m so happy you posted about Everlane loafers — I love everything that they sell but I was hesitant to order the loafers because the photos online can look so much different. These images you posted look amazing – I’m definitely ordering a few pairs now!

  57. I own and LOVE the Modern Loafer and am currently mulling over the Modern Point in burgundy. I work in an office park and chase a toddler at night, and the loafers are practical enough to go from work to preschool pickup without feeling like I need a wardrobe change.

    • How long to break in the Chelsea boots? They are so STIFF! ??
