If you want more Dolly-isms I recommend the 2012 book she wrote called “Dream more : celebrate the dreamer in you”. It’s based on her popular commencement speech at the University of Tennessee. It’s a slim book and I read it in about an hour. I recommend!

This was lovely! It is really fun to see some of Dolly’s amazing quotes with Grace’s style. I found the “official” 9-5 music video on YouTube. She and her band are having SO much fun. It brought me so much joy!
She was a writer and her character really shined through her words (like the ones above). In my Post-Parton grief last week, I spent a ton of time watching old video clips of her. In interviews she always had the right words when handling really invasive questions about her body, her looks, her husband, and other personal matters. She was funny and self effacing– but never in a way that gave away her power. I have so much love and respect for her!
PS Bette Middler coined “Post Parton” on social media last week, not me.
What I love is the discovery nearly every day since of the amazing things she did without any fanfare. She helped so many people and places that her music and film career are nearly a second-thought.
As someone from that part of the country, I know firsthand the impact she had on a people and a place that are often forgotten or sneered at (looking at you, JD Vance.) Dolly did not forget and in the same way the smoky mountains will always endure and be here long after we are gone, Dolly’s legacy is the same–thank you, Dolly.

I feel particularly sad for you American folks, upon losing her – she seemed like one of the ultimate ways to unite people. So glad we can can all gain from her legacy, though. What a gem, that gal.
Someone on social media called her death a ‘spiritual 9/11’ and I felt that. She was loved by everyone and was really holding this country together.
