Are you heading home for the holidays? I grew up in the Michigan suburbs, and this Saturday Night Live tourism ad for “your hometown” made me laugh out loud. (It’s worth waiting through the annoying NBC ad:)

That actually was filmed IN my real hometown! He pulls into my middle school parking lot and everything. Made the whole thing even funnier!!
love it!
My husband and I will be celebrating just the two of us in Northern Sweden while his family is in Southern Sweden and mine is in Southern California! The only good thing about it is we have a winter wonderland outside and do not have to leave the house Christmas Eve or day!

Great video! I didn’t know you were from Michigan, I’m visiting my parents for the holidays in a Michigan suburb :)
lol that was hilarious!
The gym and the office part is SO hilarious. Thanks for the share!

Arrrghh I hate that moment when the video is telling me “We’re sorry, but the clip you selected isn’t available from your location.” and then you realize that the Internet has borders too – it really sucks, we’re in 2012! Why am I French living in France?! ^^
funny video!
So spot on! Especially the part about visiting the K-mart and the building where the K-mart used to be. In my hometown in East Texas the Super Wal-Mart sits directly behind the old, abandoned Wal-Mart. Gross.
bahahahahhaha. i saw this when it ran on SNL and had totally forgotten about it. scratchy sheets!? check! activities that include chores!? check!
Hahahahaha. Thanks for the laugh!
HILARIOUS!! This is so true. Michigan is my *true* hometown, but we’ll be going home to Arizona to see our immediate families.
LOL omi gosh lol yes I am going. I’m from new york city.
I KNOW that commercial is the FUNNIEST!!!
I will be staying in my hometown, but its rather like a winter wonderland at the present. I don’t think people who live where it doesn’t snow heaps miss out on the absolute beauty of a snow covered wonderland. LOVE it. And the fact that it’s a snow day today ;D
this is priceless. so great. haha thanks for sharing!!
p.s. I’m having a giveaway today- check it out!

Hahaha, I remember watching the skit on TV and realizing how true it is esp. the itchy scratchy towels!
i’m a Michigan suburbs gal (Northville) as well! in fact, i just convinced my boyfriend to head home a day early in order to surprise my family :) funny thing, as i write this, we have The Carpenter’s “Home for the Holidays” playing on the stereo.
have a lovely holiday,
eileen
My hometown is in Indiana and I am headed that way TOMORROW! I was actually there recently to attend to a dear friend’s situation. Normally, I only go home for Christmas (due to work, distance, travel costs, etc). This year I am job searching so I’ve gotten to go home more regularly. Blessing in disguise!
We totally still own that TV, haha. And we laugh that we can’t update our entertainment center because they don’t even make sturdy enough ones anymore.
But totally excited to not be seeing any family for Christmas!
I guess I’m lucky enough that all my family lives really close, so we’re already “home” for Christmas. Happy travels!
Hahaha too funny!
HA this is hilarious. Thanks. I fwd to just about everyone I know that is traveling home. And I too grew up in Michigan. Love me some Michiganders <3
Really? So did I! Novi et environs. :)
I’ve been in New Jersey for six months, away from my family and friends and boyfriend. It’s been hard but such an experience! This evening, I’m flying home to Ireland and I’m so excited!!! Bags are packed and I’m just waiting for a bus!
I’m from Hawaii, and I have to tell you that this still kind of rings true for me. :)
Hilarious!!!!
We’re heading to the Mitten – my home state too!
so funny and so eerily accurate about my hometown in the ‘burbs of maryland!
:) Hilarious!
TERRIFYING!!!! :)
i’m actually headed to the husband’s hometown this christmas! we’ve spent the last two christmases with my family (with mom in dallas and with dad in mexico), so it’s the husband’s turn this year.
My home town is in Australia! I wish I was going there, these dark rainy days are getting me down. My Christmases usually involve BBQ’s and cold salads and lots of time at the beach. Boo!
ahahahaha. that was just too darn perfect!
Oh god. Too close to home.
Oh that’s hilarious!! That could definitely be my hometown. And I always leave with my arms full. :)
That was filmed in my actual hometown in NJ!!
I am still laughing! We have a “deep” TV and the only CD in my car is Dar Williams!
So funny!! Love SNL.
And no… we’re staying WAAAAAY over here in Boston while our family celebrates WAAAAAY over there on the West coast. And, to add insult to injury, it looks like they’ll be having a white Christmas unlike the grey Christmas forecast for this part of the country.
I’m already home in rural Virginia! It’s so lovely to be home and comfy and removed from “real life.”
