British author Roald Dahl wrote the nuttiest, wackiest, most magical children’s stories, and The Royal Mail just released this rad set of stamps to celebrate him. What’s your favorite Roald Dahl book? (Mine’s The BFG.)
Roald Dahl fans, can you help?
One of my favourite Roald Dahl books is from his adult short stories about a lady who writes about her infidelity thinking/knowing that her husband never reads her books. Can anyone help me with the title please?
I just love Matilda as a little girl and I think that I identified with her bookishness.
I have Read it too many times to count.
I might have to revisit it again.
The north face jackets is so popular now, and more and more people like to wear it in the cold winter. And the reason, I think most people know. Because north face outlet berkeleyand North Face UKhave a high quality, and it keep warmth well.

Not that I want to judge Pamela Druckerson for her personal adult choices– but I’m struck by how effortless it seems to write a parenting book. I’m still a mother-to-be but I’m certainly cautious of taking advice from the woman whose other contribution to the literary world is “Lust in Translation: Infidelity from Tokyo to Tennessee” and the woman who famously cataloged her quest to give her husband the perfect birthday present in her article, “how I planned a ménage à trios.”
Roald Dahl was my absolute favorite author growing up! I think he greatly contributed to my slightly twisted sense of humor. Every one of his books struck a chord with me, it’s impossible to choose a favorite, but if I were FORCED, I’d have to go with Matilda just because I identified with her bookworm-ish-ness. This made my heart so happy tonight :)
Oh my gosh, I love Roald Dahl, these are spectacular!
I do love stamps they remind me the days when people used to send each other letters about their life and senses so I love these too, they are so adorable, anyway my favourite is Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Thanks for sharing.
I love these! I especially love that the drawings are by Quentin Blake, who illustrated almost all of Roald Dahl’s books. I grew up reading Dahl and to me, they just aren’t complete without Blake’s illustrations. As for my favorite book, I would say it’s a tie between “Matilda” and “The Witches.” Thanks for sharing!
They have box sets at Costco of the books right now. I bought them for my daughter’s bday party favors.
Foto Bugil Says: Great informative site. I’m really impressed after reading this blog post.
AH the memories. i always like how dahl made up some of the silliest and craziest words. reminds me i need to buy me a copy of bfg, a fav for me too.
Matilda is my favorite. Followed closely by The Twits. These books are amazing, even for adults to read. I re-read a few since I’ve grown up and there were loads of important life lessons in there that I didn’t even realise I was being taught as a child. The illustrator, Quentin Blake, has also written some of his own children’s books and they are awesome too!
These stamps made me want to rediscover old favourite children’s books.
One of my absolute favourite is Jeanne Willis’ “Dr. Xargler’s book about earthlets”. A picture book about babies from an alien’s point of view. It’s hilarious! I will recommend it to everyone.
Love this! Mine was definitely The Twits :)
I love James and the Giant Peach!
Matilda!
We’ve ordered this stamps as a presentation pack. So great. We love all the books, but Charlie & the Chocolate Factory I think is the favourite.
These are great! I love all of them….but I’d have to go with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as my favourite!
AHHHHHHHHHHH
i loved matilda and the witches!
i remember reading each of those books a minimum of a billion times….those were the days :)

I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. I was never a fan of his illustrations. The characters seemed to flimsy and always in danger of bending just a tad too much.
The BFG is my favorite too! I read it to my second graders every year and it is their FAVORITE read aloud. They beg me to keep reading when I finish a chapter. It’s such a fun book to read aloud. I do all the different voices and it’s so much fun to talk like the giants :)
We need to have stamps like this in the US. I like James and the Giant Peach.
LOVE roald dahl!
I love Roald Dahl! He was one of my favorite authors growing up! I think the BFG is one of my favorite books, too! I also love Matilda, The Witches and as I got older one of my favorites was The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, that is a really fun book!
Matilda and the BFG are two of my faves! <3

This just made my day! I LOVE the BFG, and The Fantastic Mr.Fox, Witches! Well, all of them I guess! Thanks for sharing :)
say what? roald dahl stamps? i really, really love ’em!!! (thanks for sharing)
my favorite book…that’s a hard one. ‘james + the giant peach’ was always a favorite, but i really had a blast reading ‘boy’. his life story was so amazing/amusing.
I love this artist. So great !
I love these! Matilda was probably mine – I think I felt underestimated by my peers and teachers. I also loved James and the Giant Peach.
These are fantastic.
Matilda is probably my favorite book ever! I wish these stamps were available for US mail.
Roald Rahl’s Revolting Recipes will go down in history as the greatest cookbook I have ever read. Whimsical, clever, and tasty ways to create the dreamy cuisine found in his fictional pages!
Who doesn’t want REAL likable wallpaper, eatable pillows, giant peaches, and stink bug eggs?
Our three year old is named Charlie because “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is my husbands all-time favorite book! We just started reading a few pages a night to our Charlie and he LOVES it!
This post made me smile so much! I love The BFG!!!!
I loved BFG too!!!!
But isn’t it so sad that he was a bigot and anti-semite? How can a person who writes such nice books for children be so hateful?
Oooh, I want these! My favorite Roald Dahl book is actually his two volume autobiography (Boy/Going Solo)… And Fantastic Mr. Fox, of course :)
Tough to choose among The BFG, Danny and The Witches. Both Danny and the Witches were made into excellent films.
It has to be The Witches since, to this day, I wonder abtsractly whether certain mean people – teachers or shop attendants – will suddenly turn and remove their faces to reveal…
…what I expected all along.
I love all Roald Dahl’s books but my particular favourite is Charlie and the chocolate factory. I can’t wait for my little one to be big enough for it to be his story too. The kids at school also loved having any part of his stories for reading or basing a literacy lesson on.
I’m hoarding the 68p & 76p versions of these stamps to use on my postcrossing postcards. It’s really hard to get nice stamps in these values for internetional post once our local post office runs out!!
I agree with Julia, it would be nice to see Quentin Blake celebrated as a part of these stamps, they are his illustrations, and I should think that for most people, certainly in the UK, when you think of a Roald Dahl character you invariably think of the Quentin Blake version of that character! Such a hugely talented illustrator, and I don’t think you’d ever see a drawing or painting of his without knowing exactly who was responsible for it.
Can’t choose between the BFG, Mathilda and the Witches !!! My favourite writer ever ♥ I want those stamps !!!
Those are incredible!! In elementary school, my best friend and I made a goal to read every book Roald Dahl ever wrote. I think we both made it within about 2 or 3 (I should track down the last couple and read them!). My favorites were Danny, the Champion of the World and the Witches. I can’t wait until my daughter is old enough for me to read them out loud to her.
oh my GOSH! I WANT THESE! my favorite book of his is James and the Giant Peach. it has sentimental value…it’s one of the first books i remember my mother reading to me…it puts a big grin on my face when i think of it!
I fell in love with reading with Roald Dahl books. If I had to choose, I’d pick BFG as my fave. (I’m convinced Dahl shares my dislike for cucumbers!)
love these stamps. makes me wish i was back in england. roald dahl is most definitely one of my favorites of all time and i’d have to pick matilda or fantastic mr. fox as my favorites.
oh how I adore these….they take me back to such fond childhood memories! I would have to say The Witches was my favorite book but I do love the Matilda movie!!
Those are fantastic!! My favorite was Matilda, because I could imagine that someday I would develop super powers :0)
I think that Roald Dahl is one of the best/most imaginative children’s authors out there.
LOVE him! i loved the BFG too.. and matilda, the witches.. so many great ones! xo
These are wonderful! I’ll have to have one of my British friends send me a letter with a Mr. Fox stamp on it ;)
The Royal Mail puts out some pretty fantastic stamps. I remember a lovely set they released a year or so ago celebrating Morris and Co. wallpapers.
Well done, Royal Mail!
Now…. I wonder when the U.S. Mail will do something as cute as these stamps. ??
OMG!! I was just talking to a friend of mine about how much we LOVE The Witches! Thats one of my all time faves :)
I loved BFG and George’s marvelous medicine and Danny Champion of the World. Oh and Matilda of course and The Twits.
I love Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Matilda. These stamps are so adorable!
OMG I love these! My fave was The Witches.
these little darlings just made me so excited… *WISHING* the USPS would take a hint
I Loved the Matilda :)
((Sheepishly)) I didn’t read any Roald Dahl until the Summer before I went to college. Or, well, at least they didn’t impact me. I remember “James & the Giant Peach” and the “Witches,” but when I went to say goodbye to my friend before she left for college, she was packing and amongst her books was “Danny, Champion of the World.” She told me I had to read it, it was just too good not too. So I went home and read it in one night. A week later I went to college. I still think about that book a decade later.
I love these! I loved The BFG, Matilda, and The Witches when I was younger. Still have my copies somewhere I think. Might be time to dig them out and have a re-read! :)
i loved Matilda when i was a little girl!
Matilda! Hands down.
Roald Dahl was always my favourite! The Witches used to scare me so much – so many nightmares from listening to the tape of that book! I loved Danny the Champion of the World x
Until a few days ago, I thought RD wrote only children’s books. I ordered a copy of Switch Bitch, and Uncle Oswald and they are so well written. Love his writing.

These are ingenious! Love them. My favorite is James and the Giant Peach! It doesn’t get much better than giant fruit! I want some!
Eek! I just posted a blog post a little while ago about how I snagged the original Matilda because I was obsessed as a child. <3
I love these. My favorite is the Fantastic Mr. Fox.
so cute! brings back memories!
these are seriously amazing, i love matilda and charlie and the chocoalte factory!
BIG fan of Roald Dahl. My fave was Matilda – it was the first book that I read and reread and reread…
I posted this great quote from him a few years back:

Roald Dahl is just fabulous… my only request for Christmas presents last year were his books. I needed to stock up because all my childhood (and adult!) favorites are at my mother’s house!
