We have one of the Eames chairs that is that same basic shape but all plywood (so there’s a nice wide piece of wood joining the back to the seat) and, actually, it turns out to be naturally very todder friendly. Super sturdy, not too high, and that joining piece is fun for them to sit on facing all different ways — visiting three-year-olds seem to gravitate to it instantly. I was happily surprised!
c’mon, this is pure high design. it’s not breaking status, but rather, adding status to an item whose intended user (baby/child) doesn’t recognize or care about its aesthetic value. the audience, though (parents), obviously does– and they are designing this for praise from their own circle.
they ruined the chair putting those uncomfortable looking leg holes in it. also.
The leg holes freak me out – looks mean to do to a kid. Don’t think that breaks the status of the chair either…
love this!
cute idea, but my kid would HATE having his legs tucked into holes like that. Where’s the freedom to swing your legs while you eat?
TROP COOL.
I love it! You should check out the High Low Chair by Age Design…very cool!
xo,
Sara
Very creative! Now if they could only liberate those chairs from their high status prices ;-)

Amazing! I think my baby might like it!
This is brilliant! Love it.
The leg part looks a little uncomfortable but the adorable kid looks fine so maybe not!
omg, the legs look so strange!
I LOVE Eames furniture, but I think this almost has the opposite effect of what the artist was going for – I think an Eames chair will always be thought of as “high-end” no matter what is done to it. If I saw a kid in this, I’d probably assume the parents were a bit snooty for buying their child designer furniture at such a young age.
But either way, it still got a smile out of me!
I don’t understand how it isn’t pretentious to take an uber high end design (uber by my non-pretentious standards) and adapt it to a child, who doesn’t have the aesthetic sensibility to gravitate towards designer fare on his/her own.
My comment is actually sounding a bit pretentious to me.
But I think that kids today, of a certain milieu, need less not more and this definitely qualifies as more.
i bet this kid has no idea how cool he is.
Wouldn’t do the leg holes, for sure. That could lead to problems…
LOVE it!
That is really funny actually! Loving the alteration:)
NEAT! this is so cool!
i know, the baby is so cute! :)
FUN, FUN, FUN! smiles
that’s a lovely chair
Hmm… maybe I would not do the leg holes, but add a seat best to the chair. So interesting!
That is hilarious and awesome – but quite possibly one of the most expensive high chairs you can get!!!!!
Cool, actually I think the Eames shell armchair would be an ideal highchair hack, with the closed sides and back, and scoop-y ergonomic shape.
Make him do it, Joanna!
amazing! i love beautiful baby furniture.

Would it fit for the chunky leg baby? I think my babe would be PO’d with the whole leg set up. But, I think it looks cool!

haha! I think my child would go into a fit of rage if I tried to put her legs into that!! Ikea has a really neat one that I used called Antelop!
Do I see this in Toby’s future? Very cool!
