Artist Bryan Nash Gil made this print by rolling ink on a cross section of a tree. When I was little, I heard that you can learn the age of a tree by counting its rings, so this tree must have been about 70.

This is really really neat. What a unique concept of a mezmerizing, beautiful and archaic artistic expression. Nature is so interesting.
Coolest Idea Ever!
Love it!
Sooo cool!! What a wonderful graphic. You just can never beat what nature has to offer.
thanks for the lovely comments! :)
That is so cool! Love it and I used to love counting the rings.
I really like this. It would make a very cool tapestry for a wall.
WOW! That’s so cool! I love the use of real log!
That is a nice one.
I think you’re right about the rings around the tree.
Also, Joanna, I’ve got a great giveaway on my blog. Come join and see if you win!

ok, this is just beautiful!!!!
I really want one of these! I only hope the tree died of natural causes (?)… if that’s possible.
Brilliant!
My dad used to take us on road trips to the Redwood Forest, and he would make us hug the trees. We are so NW! Haha. He also told us you could count the age of the tree by the rings. Very cool. I’d like to frame something like that for him in lieu of father’s day.
Wow! I love this. I want.
Absolutely amazing!
Corinne

i’d love to own a framed piece. it would look fabulous on pretty much any wall!
Super neat! I wonder how much he sells for…
I keep seeing this! What a fabulous idea and end product!
that is amazing!
This is beautiful, such a clever way to print. It’s amazing that the rings leave a large enough impression to take in the ink.
Cool, I can almost see a face.
Another way I think is to age a tree is to measure the girth. 1 inch per year. My tree out front is 117 inches around and my house is 117 years old.
That is sooo cool. Like a Giant’s thumbprint.
So cool!
Aw, thanks Joanna!
Okay! Now this is too cool :)
HOW AWESOME!!! OH!! I really really like that!
very neat!
