i lOVE this look. And love that you featured a photo by my college friend, Mark. He’s a gem!
I love it! I’ll sport this come summer.
Isn’t it odd nobody has ever thought of that before! I’m not sure if I’ll start doing it though…hmmmm.
i like it even though i’m a lip gloss girl ♥
i’m on the fence
I do love this.. but part of me worries I would have a split personality coming out of me.. half of me would want tea..the other half gin and tonics. I think it would end badly. I’d tell racy knock knock jokes.
yup.
I could see this if you were 16. Not that far from alternating two different nail polish colors to coordinate with your bikini. Or like that 80’s sunblock that came in colors.
For me, though, no way. I don’t like lipstick.
i love that look .
I absolutely LOVE it! But in the real world I think the colours would mix and look wierd in aprox 5 mins. Shame. Oooh maybe a coat of that stuff Lipcote would make it stay?
Wow, this is bold! I adore this, but I can’t see myself going out like that!
Ooooh yes, loving this. Why didn’t any of us think of this before?!
thea.
xx
P.S. I’ve been daring myself to paint my fingernails two colours for ages now, you know, red, white red white… maybe I should just go for it!
this is the first of seen of this look. gonna take awhile to process this…
hell no.
phenomenal.
no way! not for me!
I think it definitely looks better than those lips with the lipline lined in a darker color than the lipstick (Ewww…) If it was a subtle look like this and it could stay separated all day, I say yes! However, too many might do it wrong and end up looking like clowns.
It’s cool. Reminds me of the late 60’s or early 70’s kind of stuff. Unfortunately I actually remember that time era.
I have tried this to a very toned-down extent myself. My lips are incredibly thin and I tried a different colour on my top lip. I don’t think anyone noticed.
I really like the lip colours in your image
Thanks for visiting my site.
I always end up smirching my lips together. but it looks so lovely on the photo!!
Unless you have plans of being a clown, one is definitely more than two when it comes to lip color
magnifique cette photo
Love it!
Hard to keep em seperated neatly like the pic though…
yea. i’ve actually done it a few times.
I love it! I can’t believe this hasn’t been done sooner! It’s great!
nope.
Runway, yes. Real life, no.
It’s funny some years ago, when I was into makeup and bold colors, one time I accidentally put on two tone make up, because I wanted to mix the orange and the pink, but I didn’t mix it well enough, and I was in a hurry and didn’t realize my two tone lip look.
People on the street stared at me as if I’m a ghost.
Maybe that was then. Maybe now is different. You can get away with this kind of things when it’s hip at the moment, but if you get pictures taken, and years later, you probably regret it, at least a bit, then you have to explain to people who look at the photo with funny faces, “that was all the rage, I was experimenting…”
My take on this is I’d pass. If I’m 10 years younger, maybe.
No, I don’t.
no way!
Huh, not so sure about that one, a little too fashion forward for my taste
I like it! What a great way to play up (or play down) a top or bottom lip. Seems like the colors would mix together after a couple minutes talking, though…
If I were still 20, I would!
Alas, that ship has sailed…..and fallen off the edge of the earth.
I have wanted to try this for a long while. Now that you have reminded me, I just may give it a whirl tonight.
Yes, very cool.
Looks like fun. I like it.
digging it? yes! daring enough? probably not… but I love the color of my natural lips more than any lipsticks I’ve tried so I’m the wromg audience.
I’ve had this post open all day and I”m still debating. Personally, I don’t think I could pull it off. But on the right person, maybe?
I’m digging it, but not sure if I am bold enough to wear it.
This is like something I would expect to see on Star trek or other Sci-Fi movies. It’s so extravagant and futuristic. I wouldn’t dare to wear it.
My lips never look right with lipstick- two toned or otherwise. Although that didn’t stop me from wearing fire engine red for 2 straight years in high school. I agree that it looks good in the photo… maybe not so good in “real” life.
i’ve totally done it! i used the stay on lip color that tons of makeup companies make so they didn’t blend together. I used two different colors for top & bottom and then I put one regular solid color over both. It just unified it enough not to look silly but it still showed the difference. I got lots of mixed responses.
interesting for the photo op but not in real life.
It definitely looks cool, but I would never do it. I simply don’t “lipstick” lips.
I think it is really pretty, but then again I love the look of red and purple/pink together…but I wonder if I would have the guts to pull it off?!
Oh Halloween, maybe – but day-to-day, definitely not for me. Neat idea, though.
Jennifer @ Random Ramblings
I love it!
i gotta say not so into this one! but looks pretty cool
I’ve worn two-tone lips before. It’s okay for nighttime. They blend together the moment you start moving your lips.
I’m a fan! ♥
I think it’s too much for daytime, but a night out on the town, bar hopping or clubbing. Definitely.
looks cool for the runway. i couldn’t pull it off. (i’ll stick w/ my Burt’s Bees chapstick :)
Not my thing at all. I want people to pay attention to my face, not my makeup (cliche, but true).
Wow, I wouldn’t have thought of this but I do kinda like it. It might take some time for me to be convinced to sport this look myself!
that looks absolutely ridiculous. Lipstick is a hot item during economic downturns because women buy it as a “cheap” substitute for more expensive luxuries like clothing or hand bags. This is simply the fashion world’s answer to the economy and womens’ purchasing trends – don’t fall for it!
def. makes you do a double take…
i love it! reminds me of playing with my mom’s makeup when i was a kid…i could never choose just one color so i’d wear them all. at once!
I can dig it, but I’m not bold enough myself to pull it off!
i love it! not sure if i could pull it off – but it would be something fun to try at home!
love it. but it takes a certain type of person to be able to pull that off.
no..sorry
I really like it. I think it could actually work “off runway” if you pick the right colors, maybe a more subtle difference.
Yes! And I think it could be quite effective to make a smaller upper lip appear more full if the right combo was used, maybe a subtler difference between the two than in the photo.
HAHAAAHA!!! I totally remember a feature in Seventeen magazine in, like, 1987 that advocated the exact same lipstick application.
It was hilariously ridiculous (but also kind of awesome) then, and it still is now!
I agree with Nora . . . I like it as ART, but personally I like makeup to look natural and enhance our features. I wouldn’t want anyone doing a double-take back at me because of this. However, receiving a double-take when you look very natural . . . now that is the ultimate compliment.
I think I would have when I was 16, but I’m not 16 anymore. And, I think when I was 16, I would have been sent back upstairs to, “wipe that stuff off of your face.” Not that I would have done that — I was 16, afterall.
