Speaking of Peter Pan collars, Alex and I saw Rosemary’s Baby at Film Forum last night, and it was so spooky and fabulous. (I still can’t get that creepy song out of my head.) But, most of all, I adored Mia Farrow’s style. She looked amazing, and now all I want to do is wear little dresses and chop off all my hair. Have you seen the movie? Did you like it?
this is one of my favorite movies of all time! i love mia farrow’s look in here.. it just makes this horror movie a little more precious when style and appeal is involved!

Love, love, love this movie. The clothes, the to-die-for apartment. So spacious and full of character. And this is a wonderfully suspenseful, tension filled movie. I love that it not blood, guts and gore. A friend of mine rented an apartment for a older lady that I called “Minnie”
It is one of my favorite films. I saw it two days consecutively when it was in first run, 1968 I think. I had the movie poster and still have the sound track on vinyl!
Wow I love your site. How did I live 30+ years without it?
i love mia, love the movie, and about 6 months ago i DID chop off all my hair !!
Saw this recently at film forum and I couldnt agree with you all more. The haircut, the clothes, the interriors…
Favorite line: “”It’s vidal sassoon!”
Also, I just found out that it’s Mia who sings that creepy lullaby in the opening credits. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

Oh, I watched this film so many times as a teenager my mother got worried I was obsessed. And I was. Rosemary’s red pant-suit…. ah.. I still dream of such an outfit. Minnie Castevet’s wardrobe is excellent too. The art direction is superb. Oh I think I better watch it again for old times sake.
I can’t believe you are talking about this particular movie. I saw the movie when it was first released, some thirty odd years ago. The mysterious atmosphere in the movie is so well captured and still with me. Twenty years later I visited churches in Moscow. It was like being in Rosemary’s baby. Roman must have brought this in from East Europe. Certainly one of the best movies ever made by the master.
when i was a mere child, i saw mia in a department store in los angeles. i’d heard the word porcelain used for skin, but never saw it before, or since, until i saw mia farrow up close and personal.
be-yutiful.
I need to rent this- and am also pondering another big chop off of the hair (did 10″ last winter!)
I guess I was so youg that it scared me a lot! I should watch it again…
Plus, Roman Polansky’s story is creepy enough, don’t you think?
I love your blog!
Mia is beautiful and a great humanitarian. Love her.
I have been watching a ton of old films lately (for the cinema and the fashion)! You always do such a great job on your blog! Thanks for the inspiration.
A classic — I would love to see it in the theater!!
The movie didn’t really scare me and btw, girls with short hair rock!!!!!
:)
i don’t believe you, this is not mia farrow! really? wow.
this movie is so sick
have you seen the posters for it with the demon baby hand?
I saw it and it majorly creeped me out! I do love her style though :)
very Jean Seberg, no?
Jean Seberg in “à bout de souffle”. Fantastic! :)
haha, I just cut my hair off a few weeks ago and brought almost aloof these same pictures for the stylist to work off of. Naturally I dressed as Rosemary for Halloween this year!
That movie scared me to death as a kid but I was most impressed even back then by Mia’s style. Her hair and eyes were gorgeous. I agree you would look so cute with that style but wait until after your wedding. It will be such a sweet summer style.
This movie creeped me right out! I went into it expecting to scoff at it because really, the plot SOUNDS hokey…but damn!
And the mesmerizing decor and clothes and nightgowns! I couldn’t get enough!
yes! totally love this film… it’s so freaky!
Best film for interior shots, by far. Right up there with ‘Husbands and Wives’ and ‘Running With Scissors’. xo
I’m currently writing the chapter of my PhD that is all about Rosemary’s Baby, so it was funny to see come face to face with Mia on my daily visit to your blog. Obviously I love the movie (or I wouldn’t be happy about watching/thinking about it so much!) and it still creeps me out. I feel the same about her hair though…I would love to be so daring!
I love this movie so much! Not just for the clothes but also for the beautiful apartment interiors. The styling of the entire film is so great. It actually helped inspire me to upgrade my look. I’m going for a whole “Ordinary People” meets “Rosemary’s Baby” look for Fall.
love this movie! her outfits in the entire movie are awesome!
i saw it with my friends a few days before halloween, and we were glued to the screen! it was creepy, but I loved the style and the new york setting. Mia Farrow is so pretty and it’s such an awesome classic!
agree with KG- large head- short hair- tiny heads – lots of hair- Saw the movie, read the book, which of course was even more intense- loved both! Creepiness that really sticks to your ribs- forever!
i’m a huge fan of this film and her style in the film.
though, i always wanted to see what the baby looks like.
Rosemary’s Baby- ah! So creepy but classic.I want Mia’s entire wardrobe from that movie..she does cute and delicate so well.
Short hair is awesome and super stylish on the right person. But Jo, if you went and got the Vidal Sassoon cut, I’m not sure my reaction would be much more favorable than Guy’s. I love your long hair.
LOVE Mia Farrow. She is a fantastic actress and so pretty. I liked Rosemary’s Baby, it was realistically insane. And Mia’s haircut is just the cutest. She was really awesome in Th Great Gatsby also but that movie made me so sad. And how handsome was Robert Redford in that? :]
i love rosemary’s baby.
oh by the way jo, do you belive in pychics and firtune teller, I having a contest to win a free psychic consultation.
go for it! you’d look so good.
that bird flew right into your head. it was like he couldnt avoid it.
i’m afraid if i chop off my hair, i’d look like ronald mcdonald. curls don’t do short hair!
This is one of my all time favorite movies!!! I wore my hair this short for an eternity. I now have long hair but still have the urge to cut it once in a while. Trying to grow out is complete hell, though.
PS – I loved your interview on No Good for Me! Good choice of spirit animal!
I ADORE this movie. I love that it’s so stylish — the style takes it beyond being just another cheesy horror movie (because it is a little cheesy!). And I find myself saying “it has an undertaste” all the time.
I love her haircut in this movie but cannot ever, ever, even even consider getting it because my face is just too wide and my features are too big. Sad face!
My boyfriend and I rented this last month, he loves old horror movies and thought her little pigtails before the short hair were the cutest thing! and I agree but I like both on Mia. The dresses especially!
i havent seen it, but i sure am going to rent it. thanks.
ha! I felt the exact same way when I saw this. She is so adorable and small in this movie. Also me and my husband always imitate her when she had just finished lining the towel closet (or something like that?) and she looks at her husband and says “see?” it’s so cute.
Joanna–I think short hair looks very nice on people with large heads! My head is a normal size, and (it’s weird)I have always coveted more sizable craniums. I think they are much more aesthetically appealing. (Think of Audrey Hepburn!) I read once, too, that Merv Griffin hired Vanna White because he thought people with big heads (like hers) were more attractive.
Still haven’t seen it, but heard it was fantastically creepy. The stills look great, although am quite attached to my hair :)
xo
i love her pigtails!
I did this cut once and it was a disaster- a case of right hair for wrong face!Flicking channels and watched a bit of America’s next top model last night- 5 girls left and 3 of them I think had short hair- beautiful pixie cuts.
I’m trying to grow out my hair right now from being really short and it is pain. Somedays I want to cut it off just like this.
yeah, i would actually look terrible w/short hair (my head is too big, like an orange on a toothpick), so it’s just a pipe dream :)
she looked beautiful and is a big style inspiration for me for sure.
i love short hair. ok i am bias…mine is short and i will probably never have the patience to grow it long again. i do love her hair here. it seems effortlessly beautiful. i sometimes feel i get the effortless part but forget the other part.
I had hair down to my hips, and when I went to my hairdresser I said ‘chop it rosemary’s baby style’. I love my short hair!
she is so cute! if you do chop your hair, wait for after the wedding! :)
