Evening Treat: Sea Salt Chocolate

Lindt Dark Chocolate with a Touch of Sea Salt

Holy smokes, have you ever tried Lindt Dark Chocolate with a Touch of Sea Salt? You can buy it for around $3 at the grocery store (or even the drugstore), and it’s delicious. My friend Gemma introduced it to me one night when we were hanging out at her apartment. She has a few squares every night, and now it’s also my go-to treat after the boys are in bed. Chocolate can sometimes be too intense or cocoa-y, but this is perfectly balanced and so good. Just a PSA!

P.S. Funnily enough, as I was writing this, I suddenly remembered this old Momfilter post! So, take it from all three of us. :)

  1. Yep! My favorite is the Ghirardhelli sea salt soiree… sooo good. I don’t love chocolate at night though.. I usually want something more substantial. But it sounds like such a nice treat to have as a nightly routine!

  2. Andrea says...

I eat one square every night! I keep it in the fridge – so it’s always fresh and it doesn’t melt…Delicious!

  3. Mia says...

M’y husband just banned it from the House, blaming it for our little growing belly pouch;)

  4. This is also my favorite go-to snack after dinner. I treat myself to two squares every night. It’s low on calories and pairs perfectly with some red wine:)

  5. Carla says...

First, I want to tell you that I LOVE your blog, it brings me a smile every Time that I read it.
I also love this chocolate, it is my little treat of the day after my baby is in bed. You have to try the coconut and caramel, they are so good too.

  6. Kate says...

Gross, gal! They put so much crap and filler in this “chocolate”. Do yourself a HUGE favor and try Theo’s version of this instead! It’s sold at WF.

    • Lisa says...

I was just going to say Theo is so much better!! My husband buys the sea salt with almonds.

  7. Alberta S. says...

This is literally the best chocolate ever, I hoard it at my house! I have two squares with my red wine every night once the babe is asleep! It is the perfect sweet bite!

  8. First up, I just love these random posts. They make me smile so much!
That’s my favourite Lindt chocolate bar! I haven’t had it in a while though. I need to run out and grab one for this evening.😊 Sea salt and
chocolate is one of the best
    combos ever!
    Lately, I’ve been hooked on
    Brookside dark chocolate
    covered pomegranate or goji
& raspberry combo! Sooo addictive. Have you ever tried it?
    Happy indulging! xo

    addictive.😊

  9. Leah says...

I just got a bag full of novelty treat snacks for our daughter on our upcoming international flight….and now I am the proud owner of my own airplane treat snack :) Thanks for this tip — this chocolate will keep me sane until we reach our destination!

  10. Oh JoGo if you get a lifetime supply of Lindt SeaSalt chocolate for this post, you have to share okay DEAL OKAY GOOD.
PS Lindt Chili is really good too.

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      hahahaha deal

    • Agree on the Chili. And the Orange, too.

  11. Lauren says...

I like this variety too…just real sad it isn’t Fair Trade :(

    • Kate says...

Try Theo’s version of this one instead!

  12. She got me hooked too! I swear she’s on commission… 😊

  13. Amy Mixell says...

I have the same treat after the kids are in bed. I love the little crunchy salty bits :)

  14. I have a piece of dark chocolate with sea salt every night before bed so this post was very fitting for me! I’ll definitely have to try the Lindt! Thanks for sharing!

  15. patricia says...

I can’t buy this anymore because I can buzz through a bar in no time. Now 85% or 90% dark chocolate will stop me dead in my tracks. One square and I’m done.

  16. Amy says...

Yes, we love this one! And the regular 70% is a staple here because we can get a box of the small bars at Costco. And the coconut dark chocolate from Lindt is also worth trying! Oh, and if you like something a touch smoother than 70% dark, try their Madagascar bar. Still dark and not too sweet, but not as bitter. I promise I don’t work for them…but maybe I should ;)

  17. eg says...

My favorite is Ritter Sport dark chocolate with whole hazelnuts. Also a decent grocery/ drugstore price! Also, since it’s called Ritter SPORT that means it’s really healthy, correct?

  18. Yum!! Lately I’ve been just crazy about the almond sea salt dark chocolate bark thins. Irresistible.

  19. Anne says...

this (and I rotate with the mint-chocolate edition) has been my desert FOR YEARS! so funny.

  20. Andrea says...

I like Ghiradelli’s “Sea Salt Soiree”. I have it with tea almost every night before bed. They also have a hazelnut one that is good. But I just love the name “Sea Salt Soiree” haha.

  21. Hannah says...

I’d love to recommend Lagusta’s Luscious chocolate bars as an artisanal alternative that tastes *amazing*** …a lot commercially made chocolate (including Lindt) is made in areas that use child slave labor, and for this reason Lindt is not recommended by the Food Empowerment Project (http://www.foodispower.org/chocolate-list/). Lagusta’s on the other hand is made in New York by awesome people and is carefully sourced to be socially responsible :) http://www.lagustasluscious.com/shop/

    • Patricia says...

Thanks very much for this recommendation, Hannah. I’m definitely going to look for these!

  22. margie says...

Godiva also makes a good dark bar with sea salt. I prefer it to the Lindt one.

  23. Katie C says...

Put it in the freezer and change your life.

  24. I have stopped liking everything else ever since I have had Royce Nama Ghana bitter, the texture is perfect.

  25. I picked up a bar of this at the grocery store last night, and laughed when I saw your post today! Lindt dark w/sea salt is truly the best.

  26. Kate says...

This is great chocolate. We melt it into rice pudding with berries, and it tastes amazing!

So interesting to read people’s chocolate go to’s in the comments too! I don’t think we have ‘Trader Joes’ in the UK – is it like Wholefoods? A little off subject but I recently read online that American’s were curious about trying beans on toast, which is such a normal combo here. Love realising little things like that are interesting in other countries!

    • Joanna Goddard says...

whoa, sounds so good! i’m loving these little tips!

    • Elizabeth R says...

Trader Joe’s is more inexpensive than Whole Foods. It is more known for its unique snack food, cheap wine, good flowers, and yummy inexpensive frozen food.

    • Sonja says...

Trader Joes is the US branch of German discount supermarket chain Aldi. It’s always funny to me how the supermarket that in Germany is the synonym for dirt-cheap groceries could become a hipster grocery store in the US. (Altough to be fair, they offer slightly different products in the US.) I think you have Aldi in the UK, right?

    • Elizabeth R says...

Sonja, we actually have Aldi in the US too. Seperate entity.

    • Kate says...

Oh I see! Thanks for this – we do have Aldi in the UK, whether it’s the same co. or not, I get the vibe! Here it’s synonymous with cheaper shopping too! x

    • CW says...

Beans and toast is one of my absolute favorite breakfasts. I tried it years ago on a trip to England and I miss it. It’s hard to find the right kind of beans here. Also, I’m super excited to try melting this chocolate in rice pudding with berries. What a lovely idea!

  27. Alex McKellar says...

It’s weird – I’m not a fan of sea salt chocolate, but I LOVE Chilli chocolate. Not sure whats up with that :-)

  28. CW says...

This is my favorite chocolate bar ever. So delicious! I guess I’ll be making a stop at the grocery store on the way home from work…

  29. I have seen it so many times at the supermarket and I was always very curious.. I cannot actually imagine the flavor, but reading all those positive comments so makes me want to try it!!!

  30. I love sea salt and chocolate! And sea salt with caramel….And sea salt on everything! I’m addicted. I have to refrain from picking this up when I go shopping because I would just inhale the whole bar!

    Claudia xx
    http://www.claudiawright.com

  31. My absolute favourite too! I used to have a couple squares every night during the winter, but had to stop because, in all honestly, I often ended up eating the whole bar! So totally worth it though!

  32. I love Lindt chocolate and I’ve lately had an addiction to things with seasalt, so that is worth a try!! :D

    Lii

  33. I love their Chocolate and chili bar with a nice big glass of red wine.

  34. There is another in the same Lindt series called Madagascar that is amazing. It’s darker chocolate but mild and with a touch of vanilla. You’d love it!

  35. I lived in Switzerland for 4 years, and although there is nothing more amazing than authentic Swiss chocolate (the kind they don’t export), I always buy this because it’s just so incredible!

  36. I’m Swiss, love dark chocolate and sea salt—and have never tried this. Until tomorrow. I plan to promptly buy every box available….😳🍫

  37. Big fan of the sweet+salty combination. I’ll look for this on my next trip to the supermarket.

  38. cindy says...

I used to love this but skip it now that I’ve committed to only buying fair trade chocolate. Especially since chocolate’s a luxury (even when it feels like a necessity with a toddler and another on the way!), I just started to feel like my pleasure shouldn’t come at great cost to someone else. But there are some fantastic fair trade chocolate options, and increasingly available and affordable ones.

  39. Amanda says...

Mine is two peices of a Toblerone bar 😍

  40. Rach in Oz says...

What a coincidence – I was having a loooong day yesterday with my baby and I at home and I really wanted a sugar hit. I remembered I had bought some of this exact choc for my mum as part of a present, so I busted into it and it was SO delicious and just what I wanted (I will have to buy another block for my mum, heehee). It’s not something I would have bought myself previously but now I’m converted.
Confession? I ate the whole thing!

  41. Katie says...

This is so yummy! Also in a pinch I eat chocolate chips with tiny rocks of Himalayan salt out of the grinder…haha.

  42. Yum, I’m also a fan! Brookside also has new chocolate bars (at least new to Candada) and there’s a mango coconut dark chocolate one that is so delicious. One of the few times a free grocery store sample has resulted in an immediate purchase.

  43. Cassie says...

This is a great post and I used to love this one too! Yet I recently read the ingredients and it contains artificial flavours (!). Boo, why! Have to pass :(

    • MrsDrissi says...

Oh no! Really? :( guess I won’t be buying that one anymore. But yeah Lindt, why?

    • Martha says...

I know – it’s a bummer, but ALL of the Lindt chocolate contains artificial flavor (even vanillin). Even Hershey’s recently switched to real vanilla (!), so I have hope that other chocolate makers will, too.

  44. Anna says...

We buy the Lindt 90% cocoa. Crazy, I know, but I’ve found that it grows on you (especially if you don’t buy anything sweeter than that!) and our kids love it!

    • we have one square of 85% a night – occasionally 2! – I agree that the darker ones grow on you, I find anything less a bit sweet now. They go well with Scotch as well!!

  45. Melissa says...

I had a bad salted chocolate experience last Christmas (it was so salty it made me cough), so now I’m always leery of the combo! However, I’ll be brave and try it next trip to the grocery store.

I’ve also become a big fan of the nightly square (or three) of chocolate. My current obsession is their dark chocolate and coconut combo. So good.

  46. Susan says...

Love the one with the chili – just spicy enough
    with the dark chocolate.

  47. April says...

I’ll have to try this one! A couple squares of dark chocolate is my little nightly treat as well. I’ll have to try this one! Currently I’ve been buying the endangered species brand. Mint and toffee are so good!

  48. Liv says...

I was just looking for this in our cupboards like an hour ago! My husband finished it off when I wasn’t around. Here I am- 9 months preggo and no salty chocolate. Someone dies tonight!

    • B says...

Hahaha Liv, your comment made me laugh out loud!! 5 months pregnant here – I feel ya! 😂

  49. Shannon quay says...

Joanna, if you’re posting this with the hopes of a free lifetime supply of this chocolate, I get you and think you’re a genius. Onward and upward, good woman. I love everything you do.

  50. Patty says...

My fav too! (With a glass of wine😀)

    • Vashnie says...

      My favourite combo too :)

  51. I once forgot to pick up wine or snacks from the grocery store on the way to my book club. I ducked into Walgreen’s and grabbed a bag of Lindt’s dark chocolate squares with caramel and sea salt. My friends loved it so much! They enjoyed it more than any homemade hummus I slaved over, or the fancy cheese I dished out $$.

  52. Cynthia says...

I haven’t tried this one, but Lindt makes excellent chocolates. You must try their truffles! Aldi food stores have some wonderful dark chocolate from Germany. For some reason, the European dark chocolates are really rich and smooth without being bitter. My husband gave me a dark chocolate bar with orange and almond from Aldi as part of my birthday present, and it is amazing. Trader Joe’s has some great chocolate too.

    • Olma says...

Trader Joe’s is owned by Aldi.

  53. Roxana says...

Love this! I love the orange one, too. I get myself this as a treat every once in a while. . . usually while shopping in Target. Target stresses me out, so I need to medicate with chocolate. Lindt is also the perfect thickness.

That said, I practically live off the Trader Joe’s Pound Plus dark chocolate with almonds. Someone else commented on it. It’s $4.99!!! I have 3 squares every morning. Maybe 4. Sometimes 5 :).

  54. I bought that every week at least while we lived in Zurich. I swear it tastes different here, though. :(

    • Joanna Goddard says...

It is a little different! Alex had a work trip to Switzerland in February and brought home some from Basel, so I could compare :) the Swiss version tastes darker

    • Joanna Goddard says...

      And less salty!

    • Summer says...

I’m from a rural town, so I didn’t discover Lindt until I went on a high school trip to Switzerland!!! That was pretty much all i ate every day (ah, youthful metabolism)! I was so happy to see it was over here when i came back (though I’m sure it’s different, but I’ll take what I can get :P)!

  55. Leslie says...

I agree! And sometimes I get the orange one or the spicy one (even the extra dark is good). You can’t go wrong with Lindt! Lately, I’ve been sneaking the chocolate chips to get my evening fix ☺️

  56. Monica says...

    Will definitely try! Also:
Trader Joe’s Sea Salt and Turbinado Sugar Dark Chocolate Almonds!!!

    • Sarah says...

Was totally going to suggest this too!

    • Ingrid says...

      Yes!

  57. Angie says...

Ah! We just started buying this chocolate bar last week. It is so good!

  58. Lauren says...

This is a funny thing for me to see on your blog because this is my dad’s secret treat. He always keeps a stash in the freezer. Maybe he’s been reading Cup of Jo too? Lol

  59. This is my life every night. 2 squares of this after dinner for my treat. Love this stuff.

  60. The chili one is also SO good! It’s our favorite evening treat!

  61. Brandi says...

You should try it grated over popcorn! Amazing!

    • Roxana says...

Oh! That is a good idea! Will have to try that!

  62. Kelcey says...

Have you tried the sea salt dark chocolate almonds from Trader Joes? So weird and so great!

    • Kate says...

  63. I LOVE this chocolate! I think the sea salt adds the perfect little something. Plus one of my bridesmaids brought it to my wedding so I have lovely memories of breaking off pieces while getting ready!

  64. This chocolate is totally my niche! I love it!

  65. Yes! I’ve had this before and it really is delicious! Also perfect for keeping in a desk drawer to have a square or two each day around that 3pm slump…

    • Susan says...

This is my go to work desk chocolate as well! The best.

  66. Madeline says...

I love Theo’s dark chocolate sea salt bar… I keep one in the freezer for random cravings.

  67. Pip says...

Jo, my husband and I so enjoy our evening square or two of dark sea salt chocolate! It hits that sweet craving without leaving you with regrets. We get the Aldi version here in Australia, which is organic and a smidgen cheaper than the Lindt.

  68. I am so addicted to those horribly addictive little sea salt caramels they sell at Whole Foods! I used to buy them and literally hide them from everyone else while I was pregnant so that they would be MINE ONLY! I’ve tried this bar before as well and its perfection! Anything salt and chocolate works for me!

    xoxo http://www.touchofcurl.com

  69. Alice Quin says...

Yes!!!!! My fave dessert – hands down. We always have at least three bars in the kitchen cupboard.

  70. Di says...

Lindt chocolate with the chili on the cover is also surprisingly delicious.

  71. Darlington says...

This has been my go to chocolate snack for years. Every time a different chocolate bar appears in our house I’m secretly disappointed. Lindt dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt is the BEST!
