The Coziest Sweaters

Everlane Marled Wool Cardigan

For the past three years, Everlane sweaters have been the staples we reach for on chilly days. So we’re excited about two beautiful new fabrics, which launched today…

Everlane marled chunky wool cardigan

The Marled Chunky Wool is made of 100% Merino wool that’s spun in Italy. Like their entire chunky wool collection, it feels thick and soft to the touch, and unlike other wools, it’s never itchy.

We especially love the slightly oversized cardigan, which is as cuddly as a favorite blanket. It looks great layered over T-shirts, collared shirts, turtlenecks, you name it. Plus, it has pockets, which make everything better.

Everlane Donegal Cashmere Sweater

The new Donegal Cashmere is made of soft, luxurious cashmere. The speckled fabric (known in the industry as “Donegal,” after the region in Ireland where the yarns were originally spun) is made by spinning different yarns together to create a subtle textured effect. It’s lightweight yet warm, so you can wear it on its own or easily layer it.

It comes in two colors: light rose and grey. You can also choose between the crewneck, V-neck and turtleneck. Everyone in our office went crazy for the cropped crew, which has a curved hemline that’s slightly shorter in front. It’s super flattering and pairs well with high-waisted pants.

Everlane scarf

Last but not least, their cozy knits also come as scarves, hats and gloves. They’d make lovely gifts, don’t you think?

Wouldn’t you love to give (or get) Everlane this holiday season? Which style is your favorite?

Could you tell us about the sizing of this cardigan? I ordered a size small and I’m worried it might be too big for me (5’2, slim)!

  2. Nina says...

I love everlane and have a few of their pieces. Just now received my cashmere dress (black) and it’s gorgeous and substantial and I love the deep v-neck. I’ll probably be tempted to wear it everyday on my upcoming trip to New Orleans.

In my experience, pilling is always an issue with cashmere, regardless of the quality. I expect it. So I always have a pumice stone and cashmere comb on hand to deal with it.

Would love to have that swing trench! Missed it in navy though, so am waiting for it to come back.

  3. I’m in love with the Donegal in pink!

  4. Kate says...

I ADORE Everlane…as in, a solid 30% of my small wardrobe comes from them and I carry one of their bags. They have the softest, most reasonable priced, comfortable sweaters and staples! I’m totally crushing on that cardigan!

  5. yael steren says...

I’ve never tried Everlane but i LOVE cozy sweaters. I have a bunch from Joie that I adore, and there are a few other places where I’ve scored some great ones as well! When it gets cold out there is a high chance I’m wearing one on the blog, lol! xx yael http://www.yaelsteren.com/blog/

  6. Lane Hinson says...

I love the look of Everlane’s clothes, but, alas – skinny people sizes. When a size 10 is the largest that a clothing company carries, they’re not being very realistic about the market.

  7. Laurel K says...

Too bad their size large only fits sizes 8-10…

    • Liz says...

I’m a size 8/10 top and 10/12 bottom and wear a medium in most things Everlane. I even get the t shirts in small. If you’re a 12 or 14 I would definitely give the size large a try!

  8. Jenn says...

what color is the wall in the first pic? This is my dream wall color :)

  9. Molly says...

Is that Caroline´s apartment in the first shot?

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

      Yes, it is :)

  10. Kate says...

Just got the cardigan and I dream about it when I’m not wearing it! So incredibly soft that I can hardly believe it’s wool.

  11. Cynthia says...

I like both sweaters, but all wool or all cashmere are too warm for me. Plus, these sweaters are beyond my budget. I find acrylic sweaters pill the worst of all, so I avoid buying acrylic sweaters. I like cotton sweaters the best.

  12. Mary says...

I agree with Jane re: quality. I purchased t-shirts. Loved the style, but one came with tiny holes along the front and the other two had tiny holes within two weeks. Everlane replaced the first, but it also had little “moth” holes after two wears. Very strange. I hesitate to purchase from them again. Thanks for letting us know about the pilling problem.

    • Clara says...

I only recently found out, that putting anything with open zippers in the wash will cause tiny holes in other fabrics – could this be the cause of the “moth holes” for you as well? I ruined two of my favourite shirts this way, not my workout sweater (with the zippers) only goes in the wash zippered up – no more tiny holes, fingers crossed!

  13. Sarah says...

I found Everlane this year – love, love, love.

  14. absolutely stunning…love it!!

  15. I asked for the donegal sweater for Christmas : ) I love their cashmere and pretty much everything else they make. I bought the chunky sweater last year and it does pill, but nothing a little velcro can’t fix. Beautiful!

  16. These look absolutely perfect – right on my style. Thanks for featuring them!

  17. Everlane is my minimalist go-to. I have so many of their pieces, and wear something by them daily. I have the new chunky cardigan, and it’s not pilling yet. I wear the cashmere crews all the time—the ones from last year got a little once-over with a sweater razor, and they’re good as new! I also wear the silk tops and silk tanks regularly.

  18. Gaby should be in a Beauty Uniform post! She always looks lovely.

    • Jennifer says...

I would like to second the request for a beauty uniform post about Gaby :) She’s adorable!

    • Hi Madison,

Can you tell me if you would recommend the place you stayed in Panama and if so the name of it. I’d really appreciate it!

      Kindly,
      Kim L. Freedman

  19. omg, I love the cashmere ones! I had never heard of this brand before :)

  20. Ladies, your styling is out of the park! You should all give each other high fives for creating such beautiful scenes here. So true to CoJ : -)

  21. jane says...

i also bought the everlane cardigan last winter and it pilled, a lot!! i was constantly trying to remove them but within a few days it looked bad again. I’m disappointed since the sweater was so great looking the first few days ! but looks crummy within a week :(. has anyone found a similar sweater without this problem? i wrote to everlane but didn’t get a response

    • Fung says...

Last year’s cardigan did pill a bit for me too, but I used the sweater comb from The Laundress and it was easy to clean up. In fact the sweater comb is one of the best investments I made for my sweaters. I have two (black and gray) of this season’s cardigans and the long cardigan and I haven’t seen them pill as much. They still have that heavy weight to them which I love for the fall/winter.

  22. Nerissa says...

I bought an Everlane cashmere sweater last year and it started to pill after a few wears. In my opinion, they are not worth the price.

    • That’s so good to know! I feel like it’s so hard to find sweaters that don’t pill!

    • GAHHHHH this is a constant struggle for me! I was just sighing over a sweater that I bought at Madewell last week, which I’ve worn twice, and it’s starting to pill. So frustrating. This article in the WSJ basically sums it up: any garment has the potential to pill, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Boooo. http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304007504579348713465126696

    • Patricia says...

Ditto! They told me that was to be expected and recommended a thing to de-pill my sweater. The thing put a hole in the sweater! I didn’t even bother with reaching out again. It was so frustrating. I do like the tshirts I’ve purchased…will stick with that from now on 😕

    • Oh! one other thing that I thought about while I was lying in bed last night. I have a cashmere sweater from Patagonia (the brand, not the region) that I’ve had for about a decade, and it’s NEVER pilled. Not once. Highly recommend their sweaters.

    • Meg says...

Strangely, when I once took a cashmere sweater back to JCrew because of insane pilling the salesperson told me that higher quality cashmere actually pills more than lower quality. What a bummer! They still refunded me for the cost of the sweater, but did recommend always having a sweater razor handy for cashmere.

    • Court says...

Ok, I’ve been knitting for over 10 years so here’s what I’ve learned about 100% wool yarn. Whether a yarn pills or not depends on the wool fiber type, how it was spun into yarn, and how tightly it was knit in the garment. Thus, pilling is not generally an indication of the yarn quality. Cashmere pills more because it is composed of smaller, softer fibers that can escape more easily. Good news is, once you shave the pills off with a sweater stone a couple of times, the yarn should stop pilling. Just be gentle when you do it! If a wool sweater is not pilling, it’s probably a rough wool type with long fibers, or a wool-cotton or wool-synthetic blend. :)

  23. Fung says...

Everlane has become the one shop that I purchase from often these days. I am completely sold on their philosophy and quality. The cardigans are of top-notch quality. I bought last year’s which started my love for Everlane. The long cardigan this season is superb. I second someone else’s comment on the swing trench. I only wear their T-shirts now because of how incredibly soft they are. I can go on and on!! For black Friday instead of a crazy shopping sale, they raised money for the workers in one of their factories in LA. Wonderful cause. Thanks for posting this for Everlane!

  24. I am 1) Currently wearing an Everlane silk shirt and their loafers. 2) I own a cashmere sweater, a cotton sweater, a tank top and two other silk shirts. 3) I bought the man-panion a sweater from Everlane for his birthday. 4) I am definitely going to buy that Donegal cashmere crew because I am in love. Serious heart eye emojis. Everlane, please take all my money.

  25. An says...

I heard that everlane’s chunky cardigan pills a lot, but that they’ve tried to fix the problem with a new version of it… has anyone tried it?

    • M. H. Andrus says...

I have one of their new wool sweaters, and it’s amazing! Doesn’t pill NEARLY as much as it sounds the old ones did. I’ve had it for 2 months now and I’ve only had to take a sweater comb to it once! I have the “sweater stone” (can be found at Nordstrom), just be super soft and careful when taking the stone to the sweater and the little pills come right off!

  26. Lisa says...

I love the chucky cardigan. I think it would go with a winter pregnant belly.

  27. Janna says...

Can you explain the sizes to me? I can’t figure them out on their website.

    • Kate says...

I’m 5’11” and ~175lbs (i.e. not a small person) and I wear M in pretty much all of the Everlane tops I’ve tried! I wear a 10 in most other clothing. Hope that helps a little?

  28. ashley b says...

i have two of everlane’s silk button down shirts, and they get so much wear i am actually considering a third!

  29. My favorite is the cardigan. I think its the most versatile and pockets are essential, especially for moms & the world! Haha!

  31. I super love the cardigan! But I have another question not related to the Everlane products…what kind of watch is Gaby wearing in the second set of photos? I LOVE it! Thanks so much!

    • Emily says...

It’s a Casio. I got one last summer for about $25 and love it. :)

    • Sara says...

That looks just like my trusty old Casio, a women’s digital! I seriously love it. Also, her hair style may have just convinced me to do some serious chopping.

    • Thanks so much Emily and Sara! I’m on the hunt now… ;)

  32. Alice Quin says...

The pink sweater is so pretty! Thanks for the beautiful inspiration.

  33. Was this shot in Caroline’s new place? I recognize some of the interior shots from her instagram. Love it!

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

Yes, it was. Thank you! xo

  34. Mimi D says...

I love this brand and it’s mission. Super sadly, they only carry smaller sizes. The market place has changed drastically, but still leaves a void for larger ladies.

  35. I am positively in love with Everlane! Their swing trench has been the perfect fall jacket during my pregnancy, and their blouses are my favorite! Wonderful picks, I have never tired their sweaters!

    xoxo http://www.touchofcurl.com

  36. Ella says...

Those look so comfy! I would love to know, what is the lipstick that the model is wearing? It looks so lovely!

    • I second that lipstick inquiry! It looks like the perfect, subtle shade of berry…

    • Jessica says...

Yes, please! I especially love the lip color in the second set of photos (the cropped cashmere sweater ones). It’s gorgeous.

    • Caroline Donofrio says...

Hi Ella! Gaby is wearing the NARS matte multiple in Siam on both lips and cheeks. (A very light coat, so it looks subtle :)

    • yes actually, I wanted to know the lipstick color too!
