Gift Idea: Photo Books for Kids

This past Father’s Day, we made Toby a board book about his adventures with Daddy. He LOVED the book and still reads it all the time.
So, for Christmas this year, we’re planning to surprise him with a stack of five new photo books
Each book features thirteen photos of Toby with his favorite people—going to parks, eating dinner, swimming, all those fun things.
We made one for Mommy, Daddy and Anton…
…as well as Nana and Opa, since they live too far away!
I’m so excited to give them to him. This book of the brothers makes my heart sing:)

The mini photo books from Pinhole Press are adorable and really easy to make. It would be cute to make board books of vacations and birthday parties, too.

Bonus for all readers: If you’re sending holiday cards this year, Pinhole Press has great designs, and you can get 33% off with the code CUPOFJOCARDS through December 2nd. Thanks!

  1. I LOVE this idea. I have shamelessly copied it for my daughter, who will be 18 months old at Christmas and is VERY into seeing photographs of herself. There’s a book with her grandparents (who live in another State), a book with her 16 year old step-sister (who also lives in another State), and books with her pets, playmates and Mummy and Daddy. Some of the photos aren’t beautiful, they’re taken on the move from the iPhone, but I chose scenes she would recognise and love. I really appreciate you sharing this idea!

  2. Awww, he’s getting so much older, I have really been following your blog for so long! Makes me just joyful. :)

  3. I love, love, love the idea! I think I’ll just make this (with my first-born pictures) for the family this Christmas! Totally beats framing pictures.
I just hope it arrives in time for the holidays.

  4. thank you for the coupon code. just purchased holiday cards that will double as my thank you cards.

  5. Aww, Toby has an Opa!! I had an Opa until a few years ago, and now my baby nephew gets to call my dad, Opa and my mom, Omi : )

  6. When my daughter was about 18 months, she started to recognize her things in photos she scrolled through on my iphone. She would get so excited to see her high chair or pacifier in a photo. I thought about making a picture book of all her little things that she could recognize, but I never found one as cute as this. I will definitely do this if I have another baby!

  7. Very cute and they look very durable. I’m making a scrapbook for the girls for christmas :) hand written notes and their drawings all through it. It’s going to be a lovely surprise.

  8. What a great idea!!

  9. they are SO cute, but at $30/each! yikes!

  14. They are such cute books, and of course you totally get to flick through them yourself from time to time. A lovely idea!

  15. My mom makes photo books for my nephew and he LOVES them. The most recent one she made was about his trip to France (with Mama and Dada, of course). She also did one for his first wedding (mine). I’ll send her the link for these. Thanks!

  19. Hey! I saw you call Toby’s grandpa Opa, that’s what we call our grandfathers in the Netherlands. I was just wondering if you -or your husband- are of Dutch descent. Anywho, I love your blog and I read it all the time!

  20. Sweetest gift ever. Thanks for sharing! xo

  21. poisonwood, i think it’s a canadian book, right? we did a book swap with our canadian neighbors, and they gave us this one. it’s funny because some of the words are different—”smart” means “well-dressed/good-looking” in canada, right? but not here….so i say “i’m the fanciest giant in town,” haha.

  22. sarah, that’s so sweet to do a year recap!

  23. jaclyn, this discount is just for holiday cards, but they’re offering a 10% discount on everything else with the code CUPOFJO —thanks!! xoxo

  24. I love the board books from PinholeP!

I got one for my nephew’s first Christmas since he was learning how to talk at the time. It had every member of the family.
They are a little pricey and I wish the pages were a little laminated, but it was still worth it!
I cant wait to get my child one (due 1/14)

  25. Timely! I wanted to make a book like this (I’m addicted to making photobooks) but wasn’t sure how to get a boardbook made. Thanks so much!

  27. I started doing these with our kiddo after he was born. Every year at Christmas he gets a book of the prior year with all the things he did. He loves to read them. It’s turned out to be a really fun way to document his life.

  29. Such a great idea! It is so special to have photos that you can hold, not just see on a screen. I’ll definitely be doing this in the future!

Referencing your doppelgänger post from today, I totally think Opa looks just like Anthony Bourdain!

    All the best,
    Katrina

  30. This is a fun idea–I haven’t seen the board books with spiral binding before. My kids would love these.
