Sometimes I think Grace Farris lives in my mind!! Honestly.
Feeling seen, like everyone else. :) I literally navigated here next to the tab in which I checked the status of my library holds. Time to go on my walk …
SAME! I just thought to myself: what a good weekend plan. I just got my notification that The Correspondent by Virgina Evans is ready to borrow just in time for my flight this weekend — I figure I’ll have time to read in line.
Took a huge walk, cleaned, and checked my library holds today! I wish I had seen tulips to photograph and text! Maybe this will be the Spring that I magically start liking radishes.
I was coming here to suggest that it is spring where I live on the calendar only, but actually this is pretty accurate. I will be looking at the tulips and sending protective thoughts to them from the frost.
Spring…it’s 91 this afternoon in Okla and I am yearning for the snow some of you have. We skipped right on in to summer. Blergh! But I am definitely checking the library book hold status and mooning over spring greens… :)
The problem with cleaning the cupboard is that I always get 75% through and then that last 1/4 just stays in a heap on the floor. Now my artist husband has walked burnt siena paint over all the white sheets that were in a pile outside the bathroom. Totally my fault but also, I was just waiting for a genie to put the sheets into piles according to size…. seriously why do so few sheet manufacturers put the sheet size on the tag?
Yes to a size tag for sheets along with some sort of universal that “this edge fits along the bottom of the bed. I surely do not achieve 50% random probability in guessing “side” or “bottom” when changing my sheets.
Brooklinen actually does this! They say “short” or “long” on the sides
Target sheets have a top/bottom label on the fitted sheet- game changer :)
Quick Tip: The tag is always sewn into the short side of the bed
Looking out the window here in Vermont and it’s snowing…just two more months til spring!
OMG this is me. Also I am loving the new Anna Quindlen book More than Enough. I think it could be a cup of jo pick!
All of these except radishes. Why, radishes?? Why you gotta ruin my salad by existing.
Hahaha I love radishes, but this how I feel about onions!
Why, onions, why? Why you gotta ruin my salad???
These are always uncanny! I had the day off today and already took a long walk and cleaned out… well not a closet , but a piece of storage furniture, so that counts, right?
Haha, the radishes! this was my last conscious thought last night before sleep, “would be nice to get some radishes tomorrow for weekend salads…zzzzzzz”. Definitely doing it, but HOW DID SHE KNOW???
Yesterday in our family chat I posted photos of trilliums I’d spotted on my forest hike.
Might coach her daughter’s soccer game! Big first! (I didn’t play soccer, but my girl tried and loved it in the fall and invited a lot of friends to join her team, so here I am. The #1 goal is FUN movement with friends. Its ok to learn new things.)
Love this! And a new book?! How exciting! (How do we have the same 24 hours in a day? Do you not play dumb cell phone games and mindlessly scroll Reddit?)
I’m so excited to say that I’m goi to Holland in a few weeks to see ALL the tulips!🌷Any tips would be greatly appreciated.😃
Some favorite things in Holland: the Van Gogh museum, the Rembrandthuis (the actual house where he lived, with reproductions of everything he owned, which we know about because he went bankrupt and they kept incredible records), and poffertjes! Little round pancakes – so good!
Most people go to the Keukenhof for tulips, which is beautiful but also super busy and crowded. If you rent a car, you can drive in Aalsmeer and see actual tulip fields. I recommend Het Tuinhuis for a good lunch. There’s also a greenhouse museum nextdoor that is about the history of flower production.
To anyone who would like to see tulips in the US, google “Skagit Valley Tulip Festival”. It’s located about an hour north of Seattle and it’s magical. Millions of tulips in every color. It’s worth the trek!

We sang this song at Spring concerts in Michigan. Sweet memories 💐
Ah Paula I love this. I went to college in Holland, MI and it is such a lovely town. Classes always wrapped before the tulip festival but they’d start blooming several weeks before and gosh were they gorgeous!
I love this! My husband can sing the first part off it, although I am the one who went to college in Holland (Go Hope!). Thanks for the fun memory.
I live in Alaska so spring means long days of skiing, shoveling slush, and still wearing many layers. Normal spring seems nice :)
Spring, I was hoping. But we’re expecting 6+ inches of snow this weekend. No flowers in sight. Temps in the teens and twenties every night next week. :(
I have never been a radish person but made these pickled radishes last fall when I was given a massive bag of fresh radishes from a friend. They are SO GOOD. Great crunch, flavor, color, with no bitterness that I sometimes get from radishes. I put them on EVERYTHING– avocado toast, ramen, tacos, wontons. I love having them on hand to dress up whatever I’m making. I’ve used the same brine on Serrano peppers, bok choy and thinly sliced carrots, it’s versatile and easy to memorize and the perfect way to enhance and preserve any produce you have on hand.

They also look beautiful in a jar (like pink jewels) and I love making extra to give to friends to take home with them.
Thank you!! Excited to make them.
Thank you for this! I get so many radishes in my CSA and never know what to do with them.
Does anyone have a good radish recipe they could share? I always get them in my CSA and never know what to do with them other than throw them in a salad.
They are so good thinly sliced on a baguette with lots of butter and sea salt!
spread good butter over baguette slices, top with sliced radish and flaky salt. Or put good butter on halved radishes and top with flaky salt.
ROAST EM! life changing, haha:

Radishes cooked into soup lose their spiciness, and just act like a potato or carrot. The slightly bitter greens are also absolutely delicious sautéed, or wilted into soup.
I do! My grandmother’s radish dip! Into the food processor goes: a bunch of roughly chopped radishes, a brick of cream cheese, half a stick of softened butter, maybe three or so scallions (white and light green parts only), a couple shakes of Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon celery salt. Shape into a ball, refrigerate for awhile, and eat with stoned wheat thin crackers
Alison Roman steak with radish toast. Or slivered and raw as a soup garnish.
Alison Roman’s steak with radish toasts is elite. Also try slivering them and using them as a garnish on soups, tacos, or beans.
Thank you for your recipes, friends! So excited to try all of these new ways to eat radishes!
These comics could all be called “the aggressively normal woman”
I have never felt so seen!
Get in loser, we’re taking full-body sniffs of every display at the greenmarket.
Ha! Are we ever!
lol yes we are!!!
I posted pictures of tree buds and forsythia to my work chat – does that count!?
Also, a spark I’ve experienced lately – taking a grabber tool and a trash bag on a long walk, and picking up bits of trash and recycling that got caught in the wind. It’s strangely satisfying. It feels like a random act of kindness for my neighborhood.
