Now I am sad that I cannot remember when I got my houseplants to celebrate their birthdays :(
An ex reached out to me after a long silence… turns out, he had been in prison! His ex-girlfriend following me had landed him there for three years… a case involving “revenge porn.” Big yikes! I turned him down politely on the notion that we rekindle a friendship.
Whenever I see leeks now, I think of the stupid “A leek! C’est chic!” marketing slogan that Emily in Paris came up with.
OMG that book feeling! I love that so much. Can I also just reiterate how amazing it is to reserve any book and have it come in – like my own private library, like I’m Beyonce, perhaps? And another one that is very niche, maybe… getting your photo of a local scene as the backdrop to local news weather on TV! Love these Grace, thank you always.
Loved this!
When you think there is no coffee left and you find some.
Wine in this house!
I love the moment when I find an earring backing after dropping it/cursing that I dropped it/worried it is lost forever. I haven’t lost one yet in my life! Little successes make the days lovely sometimes!
Finding earrings to piercings that closed over within eight hours… when cleaning the washing machine filter AND, before that, in floorboard cracks!
When your baby sleeps through the night for the first time!
This is not minor. Major celebrations for this one 🥳😉
That’s not a _minor_ holiday in my book… ;)
Yes! I’m in the “I remember those times” phase of parenting and I still remember that joy!
Living in a college town, my whole day is made when I can roll through town and hit all 12 traffic lights on green, without having to stop for any red lights or some yayhoo slowing down traffic while trying to make a left turn. Bonus points if there’s a kickass song on the radio at the same time.
I once had the opposite of this – I was pregnant and unable to sleep so my workplace let me do whatever hours – so often I would drive in around 4am. One morning I drove down the Main Street which is usually bumper to bumper traffic but this time there was absolutely NOONE, not even anyone walking the footpath yet I got every single traffic light as red – every one of them and that’s probably 15 sets of lights. It was such a weird feeling.
When my daughter walked for the very first time! :)
Wait, houseplants can last a year?! 🤷♀️
Hahaha!
When you’re drinking coffee on a park bench and lock eyes with a chipmunk stuffing nuts in its cheeks just as you take a gulp. Same, pal; same.
Love this image!
<3 THIS.
I once said “Hi Buddy” to a squirrel in a situation somewhat like this, using my Talking to Squirrels voice, which is not a voice I would every use for a human (high pitched and ratchety). At the exact instant the words came out, the man who runs the landscaping company that takes care of the condos where I live came around a corner and it seemed VERY much like I was talking to him. It was extremely embarrassing, in part because I felt obligated to explain that of COURSE I would not greet him like that; I was only talking to a squirrel. LOL.
Hahaha these images made me 1. Giggle but trying to be quiet because I’m on a full commuter train, which brought tears to my eyes, 2. Feeling the need to have coffee on a bench soon. Not many chipmunks where I live (maybe in the zoo?) but I may have a seagull-stare-moment! Feel free to read stare as a noun or a verb 🤓
PS. I don’t live in a zoo; I meant that chipmunks might.
PS 2. I sometimes think I do though. But that’s a different story.
@Emma, oh how this made me smile.
On the topic of houseplants – when a house plant (or any garden plant) sprouts some new growth! Love that!
Especially when you thought they were goners. Basil, mint–I thought I’d lost you, but you’re back!
Friends just gave me a thriving houseplant as they are moving abroad shortly. They trust this brown-thumb with their little one. I texted a photo to them to show it has a teeny tiny new leaf growth! Not kidding: 5 minutes later a mature leaf dropped off the little guy. Oofff.
how about that moment when you need a certain kind of tape — masking, scotch, blue, duct — and you miraculously find it right away. happy tape day!
OH I don’t consider the first one a holiday xD more like unannounced anxiety-inducing trauma haha but all the others are absolutely minor holidays of joy and excitement!
I was thinking the same- more like the Sunday scaries for me
Haha! I had the same thought. An ex reaching out after years is just not something the feels “celebratory”.
Ugh I had an ex pop up on Instagram’s “people you might know” and I was like, well thanks for THAT memory I had hoped to never resurface….
Ran straight to the comments for this, esp as someone who has reliably run into her awful ex literally every six months in a city where people haven’t run across their exes in literal decades! So every time I approach the six month mark, I start getting anxiety around pretty much anything that takes me outdoors. Bad enough that Google photos reminds me. No thank you!
Nailed it!!!! Hehe
Toward the end of our cookie swap, Toby turned to me in horror...
Including Frasier reruns and the prettiest hotel.
